“You… what did you just say?” Yu Sheng stared at the two women in disbelief, as if he couldn’t wrap his head around what he’d just witnessed.
“I said, this is my girlfriend.” Song Lingshu’s cheeks flushed as she introduced them properly, then patted the seat beside her to invite Guan Yue to sit down. She placed the specially ordered Pepsi in front of Guan Yue and gave a gentle smile. “For you.”
“Than—” Before she could finish the word “thanks,” Guan Yue caught a glimpse of Yu Sheng’s curious face from the corner of her eye. She changed her tune without missing a beat. “Thank goodness I made it just in time. Didn’t keep you waiting too long, did I?”
“Not at all! You’re so busy, I’m already really touched that you took time out of your day to come all this way just to have a meal with me.” Song Lingshu’s voice was sweet and coquettish. She deliberately stuck the straw into the Pepsi can, then held it with both hands and brought it to Guan Yue’s lips. “Come on, babe, drink it while it’s still cold.”
Guan Yue smiled stiffly, leaned down, and bit the straw. “Thanks… babe.”
Yu Sheng’s expression immediately became incredibly complicated. He stared at them in disbelief, fixing his gaze on Song Lingshu for a moment, then shifting it to the woman beside her.
He’d watched the show. He knew that the woman named Guan Yue was Yu Qin’s roommate—they were extremely close. Plenty of people online shipped them as a couple.
There was no doubt Guan Yue was stunning. Unlike the flashy, sweet, or adorable types, she was the cold, sharp, hard-to-approach kind. Her features were distinct, her eyes sharp and piercing. Just sitting quietly across from him—lifting her chin unconsciously—her aura alone made him want to back off.
But no matter how hard netizens shipped them, no one seriously believed it was real. And Yu Sheng? At this moment, the shadow of trauma in his psyche was probably as big as the moon.
“You two are really together?” Yu Sheng asked incredulously.
Song Lingshu: “Of course. Why would I lie to you? Want us to give you a kiss to prove it?”
“No need!” Yu Sheng quickly waved his hand to stop their PDA.
During the meal, Yu Sheng couldn’t help sneaking glances at them. Every time he did, the two would shamelessly put on a show of affection right in front of him. It was seriously off-putting.
“When did you start seeing each other?” Yu Sheng couldn’t hold it in anymore.
“Recently. But I’m only telling you because you’re my prized student.” Song Lingshu spoke matter-of-factly.
Yu Sheng’s expression softened, and he was about to speak when she continued: “We still have to film the show, so if news of us dating leaks online, it’ll be because you blabbed. And I won’t go easy on you then.”
“…” Yu Sheng clearly hadn’t considered that. He was still drowning in the shock that the girl he had a crush on liked women. So he was desperate to find a crack in their act—to prove they were just putting on a show for him.
“When’s her birthday?” He suddenly asked.
Both women froze at the same time. Guan Yue hadn’t expected this kid to be so persistent. They hadn’t ironed out these kinds of details.
“December eighteenth.” Song Lingshu blurted it out without hesitation.
Guan Yue glanced at her without showing obvious surprise, but she recalled how this girl had always known everything about her—even once joking about being her twin sister. It seemed this kind of question wouldn’t trip her up.
Sure enough, Yu Sheng kept pressing: “What’s her favorite food? What’s her biggest hobby? What’s her ultimate dream?”
“Her favorite food is the meals I cook. Her biggest hobby is riding her motorcycle with me on the back. And her ultimate dream is to make money and support me.” Song Lingshu made it all up on the spot, then turned to Guan Yue with a sweet grin. “Isn’t that right, Commander Guan?”
After all, Yu Sheng would never know the real answers anyway. Why not just feed him a few lovey-dovey lines?
Guan Yue’s eyes flickered. “Mm-hmm, that’s right.” Starting now, it will be.
“…” Yu Sheng had tried to trip them up but only ended up stuffing himself with dog food. He buried his face in his rice for a few bites, then suddenly turned to Guan Yue. “What’s Teacher Yu’s favorite movie?”
Guan Yue instinctively looked at Song Lingshu. Song Lingshu nodded and said, “Since we’ve watched movies together, just pick one. I’ll like it.”
The problem is, they’d never actually been to a movie together!
Thinking fast, Guan Yue blurted: “Pleasant Goat vs One Piece?”
Yu Sheng: “???”
“Yes! That one!” Song Lingshu chimed in excitedly, her acting off the charts. “I love it! Luffy and his Straw Hat Pirates landed on Green Green Grassland, fighting wits and battles with the Sheep Village on both sides. It was so thrilling! I haven’t seen such an exciting animated movie in ages.”
Yu Sheng: “???” Are we even living in the same world?
“Is that even a real film?” Yu Sheng was baffled.
“It is! It’s just too niche, so hardly anyone went to see it. Right, Commander Guan?” Song Lingshu said.
“Uh… yeah.” Guan Yue answered with a twinge of guilt, thinking that if Yu Sheng pulled out his phone to check, they’d be busted.
Right then, Yu Sheng actually took out his phone to search for the movie.
Guan Yue thought: Danger!
But Song Lingshu watched him calmly. A moment later, Yu Sheng stared at his own search results—
<Synopsis of Pleasant Goat vs One Piece>: Luffy and his Straw Hat Pirates land on Green Green Grassland. They clash with the Sheep Village in a battle of wits and courage, but eventually turn foes into friends and unite to fight the big bad boss, the Bald Wolf. Can they save the Earth?
Yu Sheng: ??? This is so ridiculously absurd.
Song Lingshu: 【Boss, thanks.】
System: 【Don’t make me do this kind of crap ever again aaaaaa!】
Song Lingshu: 【Nice, the ‘aaaaaa’ had some real emotion this time. You’re finally getting pumped!】
System: 【… Get lost!】
After having his entire view of reality shattered, the light in Yu Sheng’s eyes gradually splintered. Mustering the last shred of rationality, he asked, “What’s Teacher Yu’s favorite outdoor activity?”
“Tennis,” Guan Yue said.
“Wrong.” Yu Sheng finally found a shred of confidence. “She said in class once that her favorite sport is running.”
“Oh, she quit that.” Song Lingshu blurted out.
Guan Yue: “…”
Yu Sheng: “?”
“What I mean is, running is boring, so I’ve fallen in love with a new sport—tennis!” Song Lingshu’s eyes flashed with disdain. “Mada mada dane!”
Yu Sheng stared, dumbfounded. “What does that mean?”
Guan Yue: “You still have a long way to go. Classic catchphrase from Echizen Ryoma in Prince of Tennis.”
“Bingo! Gotta hand it to Commander Guan!” Song Lingshu high-fived her.
Yu Sheng: … Just stop with the anime references already!
“See? Commander Guan and I are from the same world.” Song Lingshu said with heartfelt sincerity.
Yu Sheng: … Screw it. Burn this stupid 2D world to the ground!
“So you like her because she gets your anime references?” Yu Sheng pressed.
“Shallow! Extremely shallow!” Song Lingshu said indignantly. “You have no idea how rich she is in the 3D world!”
Yu Sheng: “…………” And that’s not shallow?!
Guan Yue tried to hold it in, but eventually, the corner of her mouth curled up involuntarily. Yet another reason to make more money.
Yu Sheng felt like he was seeing her for the first time. How had he never noticed she was so obsessed with money? Their values didn’t match at all. What did he even like about her? Then he caught the smug look on Guan Yue’s face and snapped angrily, “Ha. You two really are a perfect match.”
“Thanks. With your blessings, we’ll definitely save you a seat at the head table when we get married,” Song Lingshu said.
Guan Yue actually laughed out loud.
Yu Sheng couldn’t stand being there a second longer. He stood up to leave. “Who wants to go to your stupid wedding banquet!”
“Fine, skip the banquet if you want. But don’t forget the gift money!” Song Lingshu called after his furious retreating figure, then burst into laughter. “Little punk, you think I can’t handle you?”
The two also left the restaurant. Song Lingshu paid the bill and had just stepped out the door when she spotted Yu Sheng coming back. She immediately hooked her arm around Guan Yue’s, leaning into her like a clingy little bird. “Something I can do for you?”
“I just forgot to tell you—I grew up watching Slam Dunk too!” Yu Sheng shouted.
“Oh, I don’t watch it.” Song Lingshu turned to Guan Yue. “Do you?”
“No. I watch Sakura.”
“Me too! Who do you ship?”
“Sakura and Tomoyo.”
“Same! You know, I’ve always wanted to find someone like Tomoyo…”
Yu Sheng watched them walk off, lost in their own little world, and yelled after them, “Hey! Is anyone listening to me?!”
