Chapter 3

The atmosphere inside the room hung frozen for several seconds. Ah Wan abruptly flung her away, stepped back, frowned, cast a glance, said nothing, and walked off with a cold face.

“Pershon?”

The little snake called out, tilting her head. She pattered after her, then—

Bang.

Ah Wan slammed the bathroom door shut right in her face.

The little snake stood at the doorway, blinking. A face full of confusion. She called softly, “Pershon?”

Inside the bathroom, Ah Wan stood before the mirror, looking at the human reflected there.

A face cold to the extreme, paired with a pair of beautiful eyes. Eyelashes thick and long, yet at the outer corners were two slender, vivid red birthmarks, like meticulously drawn eyeliner. Cool and aloof, yet tinged with allure.

“You are a monster!”

Ah Wan closed her eyes.

How could someone like this ever be liked by anyone else?

Irritated, she covered the mirror with a cloth. After showering, she was toweling her hair dry when she suddenly noticed an extra human on the bed.

The little snake lay naturally in that same spot as last night. Upon seeing her, she waved her pale arms vigorously, so happy she kept flicking her snake tongue.

“Hiss~”

“Pershon!”

The little snake joyfully called her to bed.

Ah Wan’s face fell bit by bit. She draped the towel over her shoulder, walked over, and yanked the blanket aside. Looking at how her own pajamas on the little snake had been rumpled from squirming, she ground her teeth: “No going to bed without a bath!”

“Hiss?”

The little snake looked at her, bewildered.

“Get up.”

As soon as Ah Wan finished speaking, the little snake obediently rose. She stood before her, head tilted up in a smile, then tried to nestle into her arms.

Almost without hesitation, Ah Wan prodded her forehead with one finger. Expressionless, she asked: “Can you turn back into a snake?”

“Hiss~”

The little snake stuck out her pink tongue to show her, extremely smug.

“Your whole body.” Ah Wan’s patience was wearing thin.

The little snake seemed to understand this time. Clenching both fists, head down, mustering energy, gritting her teeth as she went “Mm,” she then shouted “Change!”

Her whole body shimmered, bursting open like a tiny flower with a ‘pop’. Her large, round eyes gazed at Ah Wan expectantly.

Ah Wan: …

What was she expecting?

Forget it, go to sleep first.

Ah Wan stopped paying her attention, turned around, and got into bed.

The little snake excitedly followed. Ah Wan, lying in bed, gave her a shove with her foot, pressing it against the little snake’s chest. Coldly, she said, “Not allowed on the bed.”

With a ‘bang’, the human before her transformed into that pretty little white snake, slithering up Ah Wan’s long legs.

The cool, smooth sensation stunned Ah Wan momentarily. She just felt a tingling, numbing sensation spreading across her thighs, incredibly ticklish.

Ah Wan held her breath, watching helplessly as the little snake burrowed inside her nightgown.

The places the little snake crawled over weren’t entirely cold; they carried a faint warmth, like lukewarm water about to go cold, dripping from fingertips onto burning skin, a sensation winding downward.

And it wasn’t as soft as when she was a human. The pinkish belly felt unexpectedly a bit firm.

Well, naturally, with a layer of scales.

Speaking of scales, Ah Wan remembered that one unique scale from last night. A bit of red rose unbidden on her cheeks.

A split second later, Ah Wan immediately forced herself not to think about it. She leaned back slightly, propping her upper body up with her elbows on the bed, watching coldly from the sidelines.

The little snake swam across her abdomen, seeming to have lost her way. She twisted anxiously in circles, tying herself into a tangled knot.

Ticklish and numbing.

Ah Wan frowned. Just as she reached out to grab her, a small white head first poked out from her collar.

With another ‘bang’, the little snake transformed back into the young girl.

“Pershon!”

The little snake threw her pale, tender arms around Ah Wan’s neck, enthusiastically lunging at her.

Ah Wan’s elbow failed to hold, and she was flattened onto the bed.

Her nightgown was stretched into a curvaceous shape by the little snake. Pale, slender legs kicked up high, swinging joyfully up and down. The little snake flicked her tongue out, touching Ah Wan’s lips. She cried, “Pershon~”

Ah Wan chuckled lightly. Lying on the bed, she gazed at that exquisite, pretty face before her, then reached out and patted her waist. She spoke: “Turn into a snake.”

“Hiss?” The little snake tilted her head at her, seeming not to understand why she had to change again, but still complied.

She squeezed Ah Wan’s neck, straining.

Ah Wan could clearly feel something soft pressing against her chest. Her ear tips flushed slightly red. She slowly turned her head away, no longer looking at the silly snake in front of her.

“Change!”

The shout was done, but nothing happened.

Ah Wan waited quietly. Not long after, the sensation of the nightgown being stretched suddenly vanished.

Lowering her head to look, a little white snake lay on her chest, its two beady eyes staring at her unblinkingly, tongue flickering with a ‘hiss hiss’.

“Ha,” Ah Wan sneered. Her eyes suddenly darkened. She grabbed the little snake by the head and dragged her out from her collar, then forcefully flung her away.

The little snake spun around the standing clothes rack several times before coming to a stop, then drooped head downwards, tail downwards, draped limply over it. Her pink snake tongue even lolled out.

Ah Wan glanced at it, her heart inexplicably trembling. Then, that cold, indifferent, I-don’t-care expression returned. She turned off the light and went straight to sleep.

But in the middle of the night, that cool, smooth sensation pressed against her again.

The breath first sprayed between Ah Wan’s legs, then her chest, and finally her neck.

Ah Wan frowned slightly but didn’t wake up. She turned over and continued sleeping.

The little snake’s pajamas had fallen to the floor. Now completely bare, she burrowed into Ah Wan’s arms. Her stomach gave a long, drawn-out growl.

Little Snake hungry.

Little Snake looked at Ah Wan pitifully, nuzzling her face with her nose.

Human smells so good, Little Snake wants to eat.

But cannot eat.

The little snake stuck out her tongue to secretly lick. She thought, Cannot eat, licking should be okay.

So she began to lick vigorously, cleverly retracting her venomous fangs while doing so.

She knew people were fragile. Bitten by fangs, they would die.

The slender snake tongue licked over every inch of Ah Wan’s exposed skin, finally returning to Little Snake’s favorite place: her mouth.

She lay on Ah Wan, patiently kissing her.

The human’s mouth inside was wet and warm. Little Snake liked it so much. She stuck out her tongue and licked with even more enthusiasm.

Ah Wan slept groggily. She had a vivid, sensual dream. She dreamed she was cold-faced, pressing down on the young girl beneath her, fiercely bullying her.

The girl was unbelievably obedient. She would hug her arm, praising her in a soft, sticky voice. She would actively lift her chin to kiss her. In the exchange of breaths, a few heart-tugging, muffled moans would occasionally leak out.

Ah Wan bit down gently. So the young girl’s tongue wasn’t just jelly-like in appearance; it also tasted like jelly to eat.

She pinched the young girl’s cheeks and kissed her forcefully. The strength in her hands was terrifyingly strong. She bullied her until teardrops fell, her little nose cried red, and the tip of her tail quivered lightly against her ankle.

Wait…

Tail tip?

Ah Wan suddenly jolted awake. She opened her eyes. The young girl was lying on top of her, hugging her neck, kissing her obliviously.

A nameless fire rose in her heart. Just as she was about to open her mouth to speak, she gave the other party an opportunity to go further.

The snake tongue slipped in deeper, almost reaching Ah Wan’s throat, stirring deftly inside her mouth.

Ah Wan’s breathing instantly became ragged. She frowned at this human on top of her who was stealing her air, trembling with anger.

She then reached out, grabbed her by the waist, flipped her onto the bed, and stormed furiously into the bathroom without looking back.

The sound of splashing water rang out. Ah Wan stood motionless under the shower head, letting the warm water cool her burning skin.

A moment later, Ah Wan stared blankly at her fingertips, her ears slightly reddening and heating up.

Although what was on her fingertips was quickly carried away by the running water, the shadow in her mind and heart lingered, impossible to shake off.

Fire ignited in Ah Wan’s eyes. She clenched her fist, gritting her teeth, and said one thing: “Snake demon.”

She turned off the water. She pulled the soaked nightgown off and tossed it into the basin, then wrapped a bath towel around herself and walked out.

The human on the bed sat there completely naked, swinging her legs idly. Upon seeing her, she immediately perked up, shouting joyfully and loudly, “Pershon!”

Then her stomach growled.

Ah Wan ignored her. She opened the wardrobe, took out a clean nightgown, and slipped it on. Then, right in front of her face, she removed the bath towel and threw it straight onto her head.

The little snake, buried under the large towel, took a deep breath.

Human, smells so good!

Ah Wan went into the kitchen, lit the stove, boiled water, and cooked a bowl of egg noodle soup.

With fire in her heart, her motions while cooking were unconsciously louder. Clashing and banging, it sounded scary in the dead of night.

The egg noodles were ready quickly. Ah Wan only added a pinch of salt, couldn’t be bothered to add anything else. She carried the bowl to the table, set it down with a heavy thud, and called inside: “Come out.”

Hearing her voice, the little snake was delighted. She immediately landed and walked out, but just as she reached the door, she remembered something. She turned back, transformed into a little white snake, and burrowed into the dirty pajamas on the floor.

After putting on the clothes, she walked out again.

Ah Wan sat at the table, glanced at her, lowered her eyes, and placed the chopsticks on the bowl. In a tone that wasn’t exactly pleasant, she said, “Eat.”

The little snake looked at her joyfully, quickly went to sit at the table. Holding the bowl, she squinted into a smile at Ah Wan. Then she looked at the chopsticks before her, grabbing one in each hand.

She paused, then without hesitation, slapped them down onto the table with a ‘pa’.

The little snake held the large bowl, opened her mouth wide, and took a deep breath, about to bury her face directly in it and start eating.

Thankfully, Ah Wan had quick hands. She grabbed her by the hair and yanked her head up.

“Eating is not done like this.”

Finishing her words, she picked up the chopsticks from the table and shoved them into her hand.

The little snake held the chopsticks with a face full of difficulty, looking at Ah Wan imploringly.

Didn’t know how to use them.

Ah Wan furrowed her brows. Her hands braced on the table, she was just about to get up and leave, but she held back.

If she didn’t let her fill her stomach, who knew what would happen next.

So Ah Wan forcefully suppressed her anger. She picked up the bowl, picked up the chopsticks, grabbed some noodles tangled with egg threads, and held it up to her mouth. Irritably, she said, “Open your mouth.”

The little snake looked at her, surprised and delighted. Overjoyed, her brows and eyes curved. She nodded with an “Mm,” then opened her mouth wide.

Ah Wan glanced at her sharp fangs, lowered her eyes, and crammed the noodles in messily.

She’d stuffed too much in. The little snake couldn’t chew properly, cheeks bulging, lips pursed. She sucked in one noodle but failed to slurp it up.

Watching this, a crazy thought flashed through Ah Wan’s mind: Not as good-looking as the little snake’s pink snake tongue.

The little snake finished the noodles in her mouth. She started getting picky now. She pouted, pointed her finger at the scattered egg drops in the bowl, then looked at Ah Wan. She opened her mouth again and pointed inside, “Ah-ing” expectantly.

Ah Wan glanced, ignored her completely, and just grabbed another big bunch of noodles to shove messily into her mouth. Then she said, “At daybreak, I’m sending you away.”

As soon as the words fell, the little snake, who had been jubilant just moments before, instantly dimmed. Her large eyes stared at her, lost and helpless, completely unable to understand what she had done wrong.

Little Snake failed her heavenly tribulation and was nearly struck to death by divine lightning. Gravely injured, she hid deep in the mountains to recover.

Then one day, a woman adorned with jingling silver ornaments parted the grass and picked her up.

Terrified, Little Snake could only try to look fierce. She bared her fangs and hissed threateningly.

The woman responded by flicking her forehead.

"Wuwu~ It hurts."

Not only that, the woman even threatened her.

"Show your teeth at me again, and I'll turn you into medicinal wine."

"Wuwu~ So scary."

Little Snake immediately tucked her head down and didn't dare make a sound.

But what she hadn't expected was that after being brought home, she wasn't thrown into a giant wine jar. Instead, she was given fresh meat to eat and soothing ointment for her wounds.

"Wuwu~ The human feeds me. The human treats my injuries. The human is nice."

Delighted, Little Snake swished her tail and crawled over, rubbing against the woman's finger affectionately.

Only to receive another flick on the forehead.

"Heal quickly. You'll make better wine once you're healthy."

With that, the woman tossed her into a room full of venomous creatures.

"Wuwu~"

Tears welled up in Little Snake's eyes.

Curling herself into a tiny ball in the corner, she lowered her head and wiped her tears on her scales.

Scary.

Need to find the human.

Swinging her tail, she squeezed through a crack beneath the door and followed the direction where the woman had disappeared.

Ah Wan was a herb gatherer from the Miao region. Reclusive by nature, she rarely interacted with others. Over the years, she had taught herself the art of Gu and filled her home with poisonous insects and venomous creatures.

While gathering herbs in the mountains one day, she came across a tiny snake no thicker than her finger. It looked badly injured.

Feeling unusually soft-hearted, she picked it up.

To her surprise, the little thing immediately bared its fangs at her.

One flick to the forehead was enough to set it straight.

Afterward, she tossed it into the room where she kept her venomous pets and returned to her bedroom to sleep.

But...

In the middle of summer, why did it keep getting colder the longer she slept?

Frowning, Ah Wan turned over and slowly opened her eyes.

The moment she did, she found herself staring directly into a pair of bright, innocent eyes.

"Human... scared."

A thin, childish voice spoke awkwardly beside her, deliberately mimicking her way of speaking.

Ah Wan pinched herself hard.

She wasn't dreaming.

Mini Theater

Winter had arrived.

Snow fell heavily outside, while inside, the charcoal brazier glowed warmly.

After sneaking a piece of candy, Little Snake climbed into the cozy bed.

She burrowed into Ah Wan's arms and squirmed happily from side to side, waking Ah Wan just moments after she had fallen asleep.

"Stealing candy again?"

Ah Wan's voice was hoarse with sleep, her eyes still closed.

Little Snake blinked innocently.

"Nope."

The instant the lie left her mouth, Ah Wan opened her eyes.

She lifted Little Snake's chin, her gaze deepening.

"I'll have to check."

"Check how—wuwu~"

Little Snake had barely opened her mouth before Ah Wan leaned in and kissed her.

Startled, she squirmed beneath Ah Wan, her tail curling around Ah Wan's ankle.

Wuwu~

The human's lips are soft.

Little Snake likes them very much.

Ah Wan pressed her lightly against the bed. Her long, pale fingers traced over the beautiful scales along her body as though searching for evidence.

Suddenly, Little Snake's expression changed.

The enthusiasm she'd shown moments earlier vanished, replaced by panic.

Holding onto Ah Wan's arms, she cried out pitifully,

"Human, don't touch Snakey there!"

Ah Wan lowered her head and kissed her once more, but her hand didn't stop.

"Oh?"

"Where exactly is 'there'?"

Little Snake's breathing grew uneven.

Tears shimmered in her eyes as she glared at Ah Wan in accusation.

"Human is bad."

"Human always bullies Snakey."
