Li Jiangying woke up. Li Jiangying fainted. After repeating this multiple times, through a thousand hammerings and a hundred refinements, her heart finally grew strong enough to accept the fact that the giant snake with a human head attached was indeed the little madwoman, Li Yueying.
She felt fine, peaceful, serene. She could even smile and stroke Li Yueying’s little head.
“Alright, so she’s just a Snake Demon. You think I’m as ignorant as Xu Xian? I’m worldly and wise, I’m not scared—” Li Jiangying stated.
Li Yueying stuck out her snake tongue and licked her hand. The wet, cool sensation promptly called Li Jiangying’s reason back.
Li Jiangying frowned in silence. Li Yueying tilted her head, her snake body slithering as she rested her head in her lap.
“Jiangying, your heart is beating so fast!” Li Yueying exclaimed in surprise. “Why?”
Li Jiangying revealed a bitter smile. You’re asking me why? She didn’t answer the question directly. After thinking for a moment, she asked back, “Do you remember what happened last night?”
Li Yueying stared blankly at her chin, looking for a good while before shaking her head. “What happened last night?”
A surge of secret delight rose in Li Jiangying’s heart. It seemed that although that smash hadn’t caused any major injury, knocking her memory out wasn’t bad either!
This way, she could attempt her third escape!
Tenacious Li Jiangying, never admitting defeat.
She laboriously sat up. This time, Li Yueying didn’t try to stop her, just simply coiled around her and looked at the bedchamber. Inside the bedchamber, the floor was a mess of debris. Tables and chairs were toppled over in a chaotic jumble, returning it to the state she’d first seen it in.
And now, she roughly understood why this bedchamber, although newly and beautifully decorated, was so wrecked.
Li Jiangying heard her stomach gurgle. She looked down and met Li Yueying’s wide-open, wine-red eyes. She seemed to just be looking at her simply, thinking of nothing. Thus, her thoughts couldn’t be guessed, which instead made one feel wary.
“I want to get down.” Li Jiangying tried to communicate with the madwoman.
Li Yueying blinked innocently. “Oh.” But she didn’t move; instead, she coiled tighter.
Hinting had failed. Gritting her teeth and seeing that she was currently in a simpler state of mental regression, Li Jiangying decided to just be direct. “Can you get off me?”
Li Yueying was even more direct than her. The corners of her mouth curved up, her eyes smiling into crescents. “No!”
Li Jiangying secretly fumed. She couldn’t beat her, couldn’t push her off. She could only gather her energy into her Dantian and laboriously heave herself up, carrying this Snake Demon that was almost twice her weight, down to the floor.
Thankfully, she was physically strong. Living in the Apocalypse World for so long had increased her strength, otherwise, she would have simply collapsed face-first onto the ground.
Li Jiangying reached out to brace herself on walls, tables, wooden pillars, and doorframes. With great difficulty, she staggered out of the bedchamber and called for help. “Miss Liang… Liang Yiman, Miss… save me…”
As soon as she finished speaking, she saw a figure seemingly floating through the air come swiftly from afar. It was precisely Liang Yiman.
She landed about five meters away from Li Jiangying and refused to come any closer. Seeing the human-headed snake coiled around Li Jiangying, her eyes widened in surprise, but she quickly returned to normal. Twisting her handkerchief to cover her mouth, whenever Li Jiangying laboriously took a step forward, she quietly took a step back.
“Miss Li, what is the matter? For what purpose have you sought out this humble one?” she asked.
Embarrassed, Li Jiangying pressed her stomach. “I won’t lie, I’m hungry.”
“It was this humble one’s oversight, forgetting that mortals need to eat daily.” Liang Yiman clapped her hands lightly. “Please wait a moment, this humble one will go prepare something right away.”
“Thank you so much, Miss Liang, you are truly a great person!” Li Jiangying waved at her gratefully, watching her leave.
“Jiangying, why did you praise her?” Li Yueying moved her head, stubbornly maneuvering herself directly in front of Li Jiangying.
As long as Li Jiangying opened her eyes, there was her big head. Beauties were nice to look at, but she couldn’t only look at a beauty!
Li Jiangying’s mouth twitched. She reached out and pushed her head to the side. “Because she’s good to me.”
“I’m good to Jiangying too, why doesn’t Jiangying praise me?” Li Yueying questioned very seriously, stubbornly holding her head there, absolutely refusing to move it before getting an answer.
Li Jiangying found that her temper seemed to be getting more and more irritable. She almost couldn’t hold back, raising her hand into a fist. Swoosh! It came halfway down before she suddenly remembered this was a head that even a rock couldn’t break. Her hand abruptly stopped.
Stubbornly, Li Yueying said, “I’ll be very, very good to Jiangying, even better than she is. Jiangying, don’t praise her, praise me, okay?”
The human tightly entangled by the human-headed snake monster seemed to close her eyes in utter weariness and take a deep breath. Reopening her eyes, the fist stopped in front of Li Yueying’s head suddenly extended a middle finger. Thwack! She flicked her on the forehead.
“Ah, sss…” Her finger hurt so much. She should have known better than to hit her.
But if she didn’t hit her once, Li Jiangying’s frustration couldn’t be quelled!
Li Jiangying silently withdrew her hand, a serious expression on her face. “Only what I approve of is truly good. The rest only troubles me.”
Pitifully, Li Yueying looked at Li Jiangying and whispered, “I don’t understand.”
Indeed, she’d said it too complicatedly. This little madwoman—no, now she was a little dummy—this little dummy’s intelligence couldn’t understand overly complex words.
Li Jiangying had no choice but to put it simply and bluntly. “You only have to listen to me for me to be happy. Only when I’m happy will I praise you. Understood?”
Li Yueying let out a small ‘oh’ and nodded.
“Then get off me.”
Li Yueying looked at her extremely, exceptionally, immensely reluctantly. Their eyes met, each reflecting a stubborn unwillingness to back down.
Those wine-red pupils were often opened wide and round. But after staring for a while, Li Jiangying noticed that the corners of her eyes were actually slightly upturned, and her eyes were very long. If it weren’t for that foolish, dazed look she usually wore, when she half-closed her eyes, she must be incredibly sexy and alluring.
Finally, under Li Jiangying’s desperate, deadpan resistance, Li Yueying gave in. Biting her lip pitifully, she climbed off Li Jiangying and onto the floor. Yet she was unwilling to leave her completely. She straightened her snake body, pressing against her back, and rested her chin on her shoulder.
Li Jiangying exhaled in relief. A few minutes later, and she would have collapsed from the strain.
This cursed little madwoman was so heavy. After carrying her out for just a short while, Li Jiangying’s legs had started trembling.
“Honestly, why are you so clingy?” Li Jiangying muttered under her breath. There was another sentence she didn’t say aloud, only complaining in her heart. I really want to know what kind of person the original owner of the name ‘Li Jiangying’ was, to make this little madwoman so unwilling to leave her.
Liang Yiman returned quickly. She brought food and a bottle of medicine.
The food was for Li Jiangying; the medicine was for Li Yueying.
Solemnly, Liang Yiman handed the medicine bottle to Li Jiangying, instructing her, “I must trouble Miss Jiangying to give Her Highness her medicine. Three pills will suffice.”
“What’s wrong with her? Is she sick?” Li Jiangying asked casually, opening the small jade bottle to pour out the pills.
One, two… and that was it!
Worriedly, Liang Yiman looked at the medicine in Li Jiangying’s hand and sighed. “Her Highness usually only reveals her true form when gravely injured. I’m afraid she sustained injuries days ago when welcoming Miss Jiangying and hasn’t healed since. Today, her body couldn’t take it anymore.”
So, this little madwoman could be injured too. Learning this information, a strange feeling suddenly arose in Li Jiangying. It was as if a set rule had been broken, and the great demon king she’d placed in the position of an unbeatable enemy had revealed a weakness.
And that weakness seemed to be her. ‘Haven’t healed since,’ was it because she’d been clinging to her the whole time?
But, Li Jiangying thought with cold ruthlessness: I absolutely will not sympathize with her!
Liang Yiman looked at the two pills in Li Jiangying’s palm and sighed deeply again. “The higher the cultivation, the harder injuries are to heal, and the more precious the medicine that can affect them. Forget it. Just feed Her Highness these two pills first.”
Li Jiangying nodded. She turned her face, pried open Li Yueying’s mouth, tossed the pills in, and closed her jaw.
Li Yueying looked completely bewildered. Before she could react, she instinctively swallowed, gulping the medicine down.
Watching this simple and crude method of administering medicine, Liang Yiman’s charming face couldn’t help but twist for a moment. This Miss Jiangying was truly worthy of being the obsession Her Highness had held for thousands of years. She was formidable!
After taking the medicine, Li Yueying’s eyelids soon began to droop, drowsiness appearing on her face. She herself didn’t want to fall asleep. She still wanted to cling to Jiangying, be good to her, and then hear her praise.
Li Yueying fought stubbornly against the drowsiness. Yet the treasure she was trying to protect didn’t appreciate her good intentions in the slightest. Hearing her subordinate—who was merely vying for favor—say, “Her Highness will recover faster with more rest,” she mercilessly reached out and covered her eyes.
“Wuwu… It’s so dark.”
Li Yueying whimpered softly a couple of times. Feeling the warmth of Li Jiangying’s palm, she slowly fell asleep.
After she fell asleep, the entire snake coiled in place and didn’t move. Li Jiangying suddenly realized she had easily escaped the little madwoman’s entanglement. She couldn’t help but be overjoyed.
What kind of great medicine was this? Did they have more? Feed her more! Make her sleep for ten thousand years!
Liang Yiman raised an eyebrow, half understanding, half disdainful. “It’s a pity, that’s all the medicine we have left.”
With that, she looked somberly at the human-headed, snake-bodied mad Devil Venerable and said in a low voice, “We can only hope Her Highness recovers quickly. Otherwise, I’m afraid the Moon Shadow Devil Palace will be breached.”
Li Jiangying keenly caught the keyword. Unease rose in her heart, and she quickly asked, “What do you mean, ‘breached’? Someone has their eye on such a broken-down Devil Palace?”
The very goddess most protective of Li Jiangying was currently asleep, compelled by necessity. Liang Yiman looked at Li Jiangying strangely and suddenly chuckled softly. “Indeed, Miss Jiangying still knows nothing. I intended to explain things that day, but Her Highness interrupted me. It’s a pity, Her Highness’s kindness—you remain completely unaware.”
Ever since arriving here and losing her memory, Li Jiangying had been surrounded by unease. She couldn’t find herself; the only thing she could do was seize the hope of life. Because only by surviving could she find out who she was.
It was also this confusion about herself, the future, and everything else that made Li Jiangying desperately want more information.
“Miss Liang, just speak plainly. If you don’t tell me, I’ll never know.”
“Indeed.” Liang Yiman looked up, casting a worried glance into the distance. She suddenly leaned close and grabbed Li Jiangying’s shoulder. “Miss Jiangying, let’s talk as we walk.”
“Where are you taking me?” Li Jiangying jumped in fright, suddenly suspecting this person was planning to purge the court.
“Hasn’t Miss Jiangying always wanted to escape?” Liang Yiman smiled oddly. “this humble one will take you outside the palace right now.”
