Daily Disposable Persona Card.
The Immortal Legacy within the Oracle Mystic Realm was located in the Burial Ground, and the Legacy itself also served as the cornerstone of the seal suppressing the 100,000 Demon Cultists.
If a cultivator obtained the Immortal Legacy, the suppressed cultists would be released to wreak havoc upon the world.
And at that moment, the cultivator who received the Legacy would be forced to shoulder the responsibility of protecting all living beings.
If they failed to do so, they would suffer a backlash from the Legacy, causing both their Primordial Spirit and their physical body to be scattered to oblivion.
No one who came to the Oracle Mystic Realm knew about this backlash. Cheng Huan had only learned of it after reviewing the world’s main storyline.
Gaining the Immortal Legacy to boost one’s cultivation realm was a good thing.
But having to bear the duty of safeguarding the world was truly a hindrance to the training process.
Cheng Huan planned to have Lu Qing’an absorb the Immortal Legacy. As for the backlash problem, she’d have to think of a way to resolve it.
The reason this backlash existed was precisely to address the potential resurrection of the cultists.
So, whoever inherited the Legacy would have to deal with them.
Among the cultivators currently within the Realm, the only one with the capability to shoulder this responsibility was Cheng Huan. Anyone else would likely struggle immensely.
Cheng Huan stroked her chin, pondering. “If I were to self-detonate my Primordial Spirit, could I annihilate the 100,000 Demon Cultists in one fell swoop?”
The Little Hedgehog did a quick calculation. [No. The original Immortal exhausted everything merely to suppress them within this Realm, unable to eradicate them completely. Host, your current cultivation is only at the Late Tribulation Transcendence Stage; you haven’t yet become a true Immortal. Even if you were to become one right now, you still couldn’t wipe them out completely.]
The residual power of the 100,000 Demon Cultists was terrifying to this degree. A single person’s strength was ultimately just a drop in the bucket.
Cheng Huan’s expression grew troubled. She racked her brains for a long while, only to discover it was an unsolvable dead end.
She wanted Lu Qing’an to absorb the Immortal Legacy to rapidly elevate her cultivation. But she didn’t want her burdened with the mission of protecting the world and suppressing the cultists, as it would delay her cultivation progress. This was a true dilemma, advancing and retreating both impossible.
Dammit!
If she were a Star-Atomic Bomb right now, she could just blow this entire Realm and the 100,000 Demon Cultists to kingdom come. That way, Lu Qing’an could absorb the Legacy without delay, and there’d be no fear of backlash or responsibility. How convenient that would be.
Cheng Huan let out a long sigh and rubbed her sore temples with her fingertips.
Suddenly, an ear-splitting “Ding-dong!” rang out in her mind.
The Little Hedgehog’s soft voice vanished, replaced by a cold, mechanical voice.
[Beep! Detected Retiree Cheng Huan’s intense demand. “Cross-Boundary King” Persona Card has been fully activated.]
[Retiree Cheng Huan, please confirm: Do you wish to extract one “STAR-Atomic Bomb” from Mission World #25?]
Cheng Huan: “?!”
What the hell just activated?!
The cold, mechanical voice seemed to sense Cheng Huan’s confusion and repeated the message:
[Beep! Detected Retiree Cheng Huan’s intense demand for cross-boundary item retrieval. Demand intensity at 100%. “Cross-Boundary King” Persona Card has been fully activated.]
[Retiree Cheng Huan, please confirm: Do you wish to extract one “STAR-Atomic Bomb” from Mission World #25?]
Cheng Huan froze for a moment, then came back to her senses. “You mean, I can extract an ‘atomic bomb’ from one of my former mission worlds and use it here?”
Machine: [Affirmative. Confirm extraction?]
Cheng Huan got a positive answer. Her eyes instantly went wide as saucers. She clutched her head in disbelief, exclaiming, “You’re telling me… to use an atomic bomb in a xianxia fantasy world?”
Machine: [Affirmative. Confirm extraction?]
Cheng Huan: “!!”
Cheng Huan carefully sorted through the information the mechanical voice had provided.
Because she’d just been thinking about using an atomic bomb to blow up the Oracle Mystic Realm, her demand intensity was too high, activating the first Persona Card’s function.
So, this robotic system suddenly appeared, offering her an atomic bomb for use.
This STAR-Atomic Bomb was an item Cheng Huan had once possessed in her 25th mission world. Its name came from her nickname in that world: Xingxing (Star).
In Mission World #25, Cheng Huan’s identity was the beloved youngest daughter of a great researcher.
It was a world overrun by zombies. The researcher poured his heart and soul into creating an atomic bomb, naming it after his little daughter’s nickname. On the day the Zombie Emperor organized a city siege, he entrusted his daughter to the protagonist party, remained at the base himself, and detonated the bomb, perishing together with the Zombie Emperor.
Recalling that mission’s contents, Cheng Huan speculated: did “Cross-Boundary King” mean she could extract mission items from her former worlds?
With that thought, Cheng Huan immediately tested it.
She thought about her past missions. “I want to extract the Primordial Spirit of an Immortal from Mission World #38.”
Mission World #38 was of the same genre as the world she was currently in.
If she could extract that Immortal Primordial Spirit for use…
Then she wouldn’t need to self-destruct her own Spirit to perish with the cultists. That would kill two birds with one stone.
Cheng Huan had a beautiful plan, but reality was cold and cruel.
Machine: [No permission to use. Extraction prohibited.]
“……” Cheng Huan frowned. “Why can’t it be extracted?”
Silence. No reply.
No usage permission meant she wasn’t qualified?
Cheng Huan pondered a moment, then conducted another test. “I want to extract my Golden Core from Mission World #38.”
In that world, her cultivation had only reached the Late Golden Core Stage before she completed the mission and left.
Machine: [Retiree Cheng Huan, please confirm: Do you wish to extract one “Golden Core” from Mission World #38?]
Hearing the machine’s answer, Cheng Huan instantly understood the meaning of “Cross-Boundary King.”
She could only extract things she herself had owned in her past mission worlds, not things that had belonged to others.
“Confirm extraction,” Cheng Huan said.
Machine: [Retiree Cheng Huan’s reply received. Preparing to extract one “Golden Core” from Mission World #38.]
Machine: [Extraction successful. Please check storage.]
Cheng Huan saw the cultivation Golden Core from Mission World #38 appear in her personal storage space. The moment she saw the tangible object, she truly confirmed she possessed an incredible “cheat.”
But before Cheng Huan could rejoice for long, the cold, mechanical voice spoke again.
Machine: [Extracted item has a 24-hour validity period. If unused after expiry, it is considered forfeit and the item will automatically vanish.]
Machine: [Extracted items are automatically locked; they cannot be extracted a second time.]
Cheng Huan: “……”
She’d just been thinking about extracting a few more atomic bombs for backup later, only to be told she couldn’t repeatedly extract the same item, and it even had a usage time limit.
Was this “Cross-Boundary King” Persona Card a daily disposable?!
What a scam!
Cheng Huan didn’t immediately extract the atomic bomb. After all, Lu Qing’an hadn’t obtained the Immortal Legacy yet; it would be a waste if the timer expired.
Still, thinking it over, this Persona Card was pretty good.
Cheng Huan rubbed her chin, a sly glint flashing in her eyes. “System, are you there? I want to extract another item.”
Machine: [Please confirm extraction world and extraction target.]
—
One by one, they passed through the mist barrier and officially entered the Outer Sect Grounds of the Oracle Mystic Realm.
A boundless forest sea, so lush and dense it blotted out the sun.
Weeds grew in wild tangles over the uneven ground.
Faint mist drifted among the woods, limiting visibility to only a small area around them.
They could clearly feel the wind, yet heard not a single rustle of wind through the treetops. An air of eerie strangeness and lurking danger pervaded everything.
Everyone proceeded with utmost caution, constantly monitoring their surroundings for any changes.
They still couldn’t hear anything, but they caught a whiff of the scent of blood drifting from afar.
In that moment, horror fermented wildly in everyone’s hearts.
Lu Qing’an leaned against a banyan tree, taking out some Golden Wound Powder from her Storage Bag to apply to her injuries.
Earlier, a Spirit Grass had suddenly launched an attack on her. Caught off guard, Lu Qing’an’s arm had been slashed by its leaf.
The wound was small, but it resisted healing. Even half an hour later, the bleeding hadn’t stopped.
Lu Qing’an’s sleeve was thoroughly soaked in blood. Blood slid down her arm, dripped from her fingertips, and fell to the ground—only to vanish instantly, as if absorbed by the earth.
In that fleeting moment, Lu Qing’an thought she heard a gulping sound.
She assumed it was an auditory hallucination from blood loss.
But now, watching her blood immediately soak into the soil upon dripping, that sound echoed in her ears once more.
It was the desperate, gulping sound of someone parched with thirst finally getting a bit of water and drinking too hastily.
Although Golden Wound Powder could staunch bleeding, it couldn’t cure the root cause. Lu Qing’an had no choice but to apply medicine as she traveled.
Now, the powder was running low, yet blood kept flowing uncontrollably. Lu Qing’an could feel herself growing weaker and her consciousness blurring.
If she fainted here, death wouldn’t be far off.
After finishing the application, Lu Qing’an was about to continue forward when she suddenly heard a faint, muffled sound nearby.
It sounded like something was breaking through the earth.
Her right arm was injured and useless, so Lu Qing’an could only wield her sword in her left hand.
The blade shimmered with a faint blue fluorescence, as cold as ice.
Lu Qing’an stared towards the source of the sound. It wasn’t far, just a few steps away.
But right now, she had no desire to encounter it. She could only carefully retreat, trying not to alert whatever it was.
She had just taken a step back when she noticed the sound of earth-breaking increased rapidly, accompanied by the “crack, crack” of bending bones.
And it wasn’t just one source.
Frowning, Lu Qing’an immediately turned and ran. The sounds behind her quickened. She could feel it now—something was chasing her.
Or rather…
It wasn’t human.
Lu Qing’an quickened her pace, fleeing backward. But the fog, as if adding insult to injury, thickened at that moment.
She could no longer see the path she’d come from. Right now, she was certain she was lost.
The unknown creatures were still chasing from behind. She didn’t dare stop, only able to keep running forward.
But in the next second, she heard heavy footsteps and ragged breathing ahead of her.
Lu Qing’an’s expression changed sharply. Just as she was about to hurl her Cloud-Cutting Sword, she spotted the crystalline blue Spirit Glyph on the newcomer.
It was someone from the Primordial Pavilion.
Lu Qing’an rushed over and found it was Gu Chuan. His injuries were even worse than hers—not a patch of unmarred skin anywhere. His white robes were dyed crimson. His face was deathly pale, his gait faltering.
“Gu Chuan?” Lu Qing’an called out to him.
Hearing her voice, Gu Chuan shuddered, instinctively raising his sword to defend, but then he recognized Lu Qing’an. “Qing’an? You’re hurt?”
Seeing her arm bleeding nonstop, he asked worriedly, “Who did this to you?”
There was no time for lengthy explanations now. Because the same sounds were coming from behind Gu Chuan.
Lu Qing’an observed his wounds. Unlike hers, they looked like cuts and punctures from something sharp.
“What injured you?” She stared into the mist. “What’s chasing you?”
She could sense they were already surrounded by those things.
A flicker of terror crossed Gu Chuan’s face. He said, his voice trembling, “It’s… it’s the Demon Cultists.”
“Demon Cultists?” Lu Qing’an exclaimed. “Weren’t they suppressed?”
Gu Chuan said, “I found a stone tablet. It recorded ancient history. The Immortal back then suppressed the souls of the 100,000 Demon Cultists. This island… is built from their flesh and blood.”
“I was ambushed and wounded by a Spirit Beast. My blood dripped onto the ground and was absorbed by the cultists’ buried bones. They emerged from the earth…”
The rest of his words caught in his throat. They now saw clearly the skeletons lurking within the mist.
Those pale, hunched skeletons were covered with half-regrown flesh and sinews. At a single glance, it was a gruesome mess of gore.
These skeletons were drinking blood to regenerate their bodies.
A putrid, rotting stench assaulted their nostrils, churning their stomachs with nausea.
Their eye sockets were utterly empty—until the moment they spotted them. Then, an eerie red light blazed forth.
The scent of blood from the two cultivators grew thicker. The skeletons let out hoarse, rasping howls and surged forward in a mob.
Gu Chuan and Lu Qing’an stood back-to-back, swords raised before them, ready to fight to the death.
Just as the skeletons’ sharp fingers were about to touch them, the Primordial Spirit Mark on Gu Chuan’s forehead suddenly blazed scorching hot. Their vision flooded with blinding light. A brilliant radiance flashed, dazzling and fierce waves of heat sweeping outward in all directions.
The glare was so intense Gu Chuan and Lu Qing’an couldn’t open their eyes. They could only hear the howling of the skeletons.
Within a few breaths, utter silence fell around them.
When they opened their eyes…
The mist had dispersed. The skeletons were reduced to ashes.
Staring at the devastated scene, Gu Chuan exclaimed in shock, “This… this is…”
Lu Qing’an drew a deep breath. “Primordial Spirit Power.”
A heaven-destroying, earth-shattering power. There was no other like it under the heavens.
