Chapter 59: You Need to Help Me Through My Heat Cycle
The study was so quiet, you could hear a pin drop.
Thump, thump, thump—
Ming Fei felt her heartbeat accelerating, the pear scent pulled and uncontrollably overflowing, guided by the raccoon cat amidst the cedar and fir trees.
She thought, Zhu Yiqiao… was actually an omega?
One Raccoon Hill, and the soldier who saved her, were actually omegas?
Her surprise wasn’t due to any stereotypes she held about alphas and omegas. As a supporter of the Mehertaer faction, she opposed the Ole Empire’s domestication and wouldn’t affirm such labels.
It’s just that, for hundreds of years in the Ole Empire, there had never been an omega attending a military academy, let alone joining the military. Decades ago, the Omega Protection Association had petitioned for relaxed standards, but it was ruthlessly rejected and punished by the Empire and the government.
So, she had never doubted Zhu Yiqiao’s alpha identity.
Zhu Yiqiao… was really an omega?
She blinked in confusion and asked softly, “Jiejie, are you telling the truth?”
It was a public holiday, and Zhu Yiqiao wasn’t wearing her Trial Court uniform, but a simple white shirt and black trousers. Her face was strikingly beautiful, but her temperament was cold and noble.
“Mm.”
She didn’t show any sign of lying, still looking directly at Ming Fei, even repeating, “I’m an omega.”
“So…” Ming Fei hesitated.
Zhu Yiqiao: “Whatever you want to know, I can tell you.”
Having received permission, Ming Fei fell silent.
Confused?
No.
There weren’t any questions she couldn’t understand or figure out. Through their time together, Zhu Yiqiao’s royal status, and the misunderstanding about One Raccoon Hill deleting her account, she could deduce that it was probably Zhu Yiqiao’s own planning and efforts, coupled with her mother’s help, that allowed her to conceal her omega identity and attend the military academy, and later join the military after graduating.
Angry or sad about the deception?
No.
She felt it was perfectly understandable that Zhu Yiqiao initially claimed to be an alpha.
After all, Zhu Yiqiao had confirmed that she was an alpha first, and not revealing her own identity was also a form of self-protection. Moreover, although they weren’t exactly antagonistic at that time, they were both hiding things and trying to figure each other out.
If she were an omega who had concealed her identity for years, she would probably have made the same decision as Zhu Yiqiao.
After sorting everything out, Ming Fei smiled faintly.
“Jiejie, I don’t have any questions.”
Hearing this, Zhu Yiqiao could probably guess Ming Fei’s thoughts, because Ming Fei was really very obedient and easy to understand, especially after they reunited after more than ten years. She didn’t even need to guess; it was all clear at a glance.
“Ming Fei.”
The person called by her name smiled, her eyes curving: “Mm?”
“Follow me.”
Ming Fei nodded, about to follow closely behind Zhu Yiqiao, when her wrist was suddenly grasped. She didn’t struggle, just looked at Zhu Yiqiao in surprise, then smiled.
Like a happy little fox, its tail wagging.
Holding hands between friends was perfectly normal and reasonable.
So, there was nothing to be surprised about, she thought.
As she followed Zhu Yiqiao, trying to control and withdraw her pheromones, the playful raccoon cat seemed a little unhappy, as if feeling wronged about having to leave so soon. It hugged the cedar and fir trees, shaking them, making the branches, leaves, and snowflakes fall on the sweet pear, as if wanting to hide it.
The smile in Ming Fei’s eyes deepened.
If it were before, she might have hesitated, but after realizing that Zhu Yiqiao was an omega, she still controlled her pheromones, leaving only a trace in the air, letting the raccoon cat linger around that wisp of pear fragrance.
Just a little bit should be fine.
Too much would affect an omega. She thought with satisfaction.
Ming Fei followed Zhu Yiqiao to the other side of the study.
This area was even more technologically advanced. Ming Fei sat in a chair that could automatically adjust to any shape, facing the French window, able to directly enjoy the night view from the villa area to the suburbs.
Two sensor candles were lit on each side of the wall, casting a warm, golden glow on them. Ming Fei looked at the falling snowflakes and suddenly thought of her time in Taoqiu Village.
Although the gland pain had tormented her for a week, she had felt the first warmth of this world there. And after listening to Grandma Jing’s explanations, she had learned what kind of world this was. The more she understood, the firmer her decision to stay became.
This year, because of school matters and Ming Zaozao’s sudden fever, she hadn’t had time to go back and visit Grandma Jing’s grave. She wanted to take Ming Zaozao back there after the new year.
As her thoughts wandered, almost drifting beyond the window into the sky, Zhu Yiqiao sat down beside her.
“What are you thinking about?”
Ming Fei shook her head: “Nothing. Jiejie, did you bring me here to tell me something?”
“Mm.” Zhu Yiqiao got straight to the point. “About your treatment, what are your thoughts?”
During the hour in the craft room, Ming Fei had not only made a ceramic bird, but also thoroughly thought things through.
She said frankly, “I don’t think there’s any feasible solution at the moment, and the pain isn’t unbearable. I’ll ask for leave from the academy and adjust my classes when I can’t handle it, and I’ll also arrange for someone to take care of Zaozao. So, let’s just take it one step at a time. Maybe Dr. Tang will come up with a new solution after a while.”
After saying that, she smiled brightly, her eyes clear, without any shadows in her heart.
After all these years of twists and turns, fate had given her many gifts. She couldn’t complain or feel it was unfair. She just wanted to live in the present. If she encountered difficulties, she would cross mountains and build bridges over water.
It’s just that the current situation was rare, neither pain relief medication nor marking was feasible, and she planned to do her best to research, to resist, until the day she found a solution.
Zhu Yiqiao quietly listened to Ming Fei’s thoughts, her expression not changing at all, as if she had already anticipated her answer.
She handed Ming Fei the document on the table: “Take a look at this first.”
“Okay.”
Ming Fei opened the document and carefully read it. The documents were almost all of Zhu Yiqiao’s medical reports, and the data were all normal. She was a little puzzled, but also understood that Zhu Yiqiao had her reasons for doing everything, so she continued reading carefully.
When she reached the last page, several data points related to pheromones showed fluctuations.
The signature at the end of the document was Dr. Tang’s. The line above the signature stated the examination results: Zhu Yiqiao’s health was excellent, except that her pheromone threshold would constantly rise before and during her… heat cycles, and the current threshold was already very dangerous.
Ming Fei frowned.
She closed the document and asked worriedly, “Why is this happening?”
Zhu Yiqiao’s gaze deepened: “The alpha identity is fake, but the resistance and negative side effects from long-term use of suppressants are real, and the pheromone threshold is also affected by it.”
Ming Fei lowered her head in thought. Even professional doctors couldn’t solve this problem, so even if she read all the books, she would still be helpless, especially since her knowledge in this area was lacking.
She anxiously wanted to ask Dr. Tang if there was really no way to solve the abnormality of the pheromone threshold. Zhu Yiqiao had made so many contributions to the Independent State of Yi Meng, was there really nothing the country could do to change the situation?
But she was no longer a teenager. Now, at twenty-five, she certainly knew that doing so would be impulsive and unwise, and might even cause unnecessary trouble for Zhu Yiqiao.
After calming down, Ming Fei couldn’t help but ask, “Jiejie…”
Zhu Yiqiao: “Ming Fei…”
Their voices sounded at the same time, almost overlapping. Ming Fei swallowed her question.
“Jiejie, you speak first.”
Zhu Yiqiao: “Let’s make a deal.”
Ming Fei asked curiously, “What kind of deal?”
The snow outside the window was getting heavier and heavier. Zhu Yiqiao calmly dropped a bomb, the exploding pink mushroom cloud making Ming Fei dizzy and almost losing control of her pheromones.
“I’ll help you with your treatment.”
Zhu Yiqiao said calmly, “In return, you need to help me through my heat cycle.”
