Chapter 10:
The cleaning at Jinbiao Mingting was managed by the property management.
Early in the morning, SA stood downstairs at the property management office, carrying a high-end replica bag, waiting for Qi Sijia.
“So early! What brings you here?”
At six-thirty in the morning, Xiao Su from property management walked over, carrying a bowl of takeout noodles in his left hand and soy milk in his right.
SA waved dismissively. “Bringing a client.”
“Oh.”
Their relationship was average. SA had always been the type to treat people differently based on their status.
Xiao Su had no intention of trying to get close to her and was about to find an excuse to leave.
But then, the client SA mentioned arrived.
“Miss Qi, over here.” A warm smile spread across SA’s face, completely different from her perfunctory attitude towards Xiao Su. Her eyes were fixed on the woman who hadn’t yet gotten out of the car, as if she were looking at a shining gold coin, completely transformed.
A perfect example of judging a book by its cover.
Let’s see just how rich this client SA is waiting for so early in the morning is.
Xiao Su sneered inwardly and followed SA’s gaze.
He saw a little yellow duck-style Wuling Hongguang electric car. The car was so short and narrow that the driver’s height must have made it feel cramped inside. She first stepped out with a long, slender leg, her black sneakers hitting the ground. Then she arched her body out, revealing a small, incredibly flexible waist.
After most of her body was out, she unhurriedly pulled her other leg out of the cramped driver’s seat.
“My god, it’s all legs at first glance.”
The woman’s back was to him. He estimated her height to be at least 173 cm. Of course, that wasn’t what amazed Xiao Su. He enjoyed studying women’s fashion.
His summary of a walking clothes hanger was long legs, a slender waist, and well-proportioned bones.
The woman not far away fit the description perfectly.
She wore a dark gray wool coat that only reached her knees. Her long legs were casually paired with light blue casual high-waisted wide-leg pants and black sneakers. Her side profile was buried in a blue and white scarf, making her expression unreadable.
She gave off a cool, ascetic vibe.
Xiao Su’s eyes widened in amazement. He waited without blinking for the woman to turn around.
But a minute later, after she took a travel backpack from the back seat and slung it over her shoulder, when she turned her head, Xiao Su let out a disappointed “ah.” The long-legged beauty wore a black mask, and a blue and white scarf was wrapped tightly around her face. On her head was a baseball cap specifically for cleaners.
The ordinary orange hat on her head didn’t affect her aura at all.
So, Xiao Su, who was good at observing details, didn’t immediately connect the hat with the woman’s profession.
Tapping her elbow against SA’s, Xiao Su’s sleepiness vanished. “Is she really not your friend? I really want to see what she looks like. With legs that long, her face can’t be bad. Have you seen it?”
“No.” SA hadn’t seen Qi Sijia herself. Resisting the urge to roll her eyes, she plastered on a smile and whispered to Xiao Su, “A client.”
“What kind of client?”
The units at Jinbiao Mingting were almost all sold. Many of the sales consultants were now finding other jobs, each juggling multiple roles.
SA also had many part-time jobs, and she had recently taken on a role as a headhunter, which Xiao Su had encountered before.
But on second thought, if it were just to help her find a job, SA certainly wouldn’t have come to wait for her so early in the morning.
Xiao Su exchanged a glance with SA and asked tentatively, “Is she a homeowner? She drives a Little Yellow Duck?”
SA thought to herself, And what’s so unbelievable about that?
There were even more unbelievable things. Thinking that she would need Xiao Su’s help with Qi Sijia’s job application later, SA gave Xiao Su a meaningful look.
“Both,” SA said. “But today, I’m bringing her here to apply for a job with you.”
The straw in his mouth clattered to the ground. Xiao Su’s voice involuntarily rose an octave. “What? I haven’t heard about any new colleagues reporting to our property management recently.”
“Not property management.”
Qi Sijia was already five meters away. SA paused, put on a smile, and took two steps forward to greet her, while explaining to Xiao Su, “Cleaning.”
“She’s applying for a cleaning job.”
Xiao Su: “…”
“In our line of work, good service and cleanliness are the top priorities.”
When Xiao Su led Qi Sijia to the cleaner’s locker room to find the supervisor, the supervisor auntie was wearing a uniform cleaning outfit and standing in the middle of a crowd, her spittle flying.
The reason was that yesterday, they had once again received a complaint from the owner of the top-floor duplex in Building 8.
“The top-floor owner has repeatedly corrected us for our inadequate cleaning. So many days have passed, and not only has our service quality not improved, but we’ve also been caught red-handed. Yesterday, a complaint call was made directly to the headquarters. They made the company bosses apologize to the owner. Don’t you feel sorry?”
There were about twenty aunties in the cleaning room, with an average age of fifty or sixty. They were now hanging their heads in dejection, not daring to make a sound.
The supervisor wore a red armband. After venting, she said, “So who is willing to go clean Building 8 today?”
As she finished, the aunties who had been hanging their heads didn’t even dare to breathe, afraid they would be chosen.
Xiao Su had gone out to take a call and came back. He briefly told Qi Sijia that he had something to do and had to leave early.
Qi Sijia nodded, politely declining Xiao Su’s offer of special treatment.
If possible, she would prefer not to be disturbed by the wind, let alone receive special treatment.
Xiao Su felt a little awkward and didn’t try to persuade her further.
He knocked on the door, interrupting the supervisor’s conversation. “Sister Yang.”
“Oh, Miss Su, what brings you here?”
In a typical residential community, the cleaners were at the bottom of the hierarchy, and the property management was their direct superior.
The supervisor’s expression changed quickly. Her loose skin crinkled into a flower, and she walked over with a high-pitched voice.
Qi Sijia dodged, pulling down her hat to block her view.
What appeared in her field of vision was a pair of slightly scuffed flat shoes.
Xiao Su, who was next to her, was in a hurry to leave. He greeted the supervisor, took a step to the side, and introduced, “This is Miss Qi.”
“She’s a new cleaner. Please take care of her.”
As these words landed, everyone in the cleaning room turned to look at Qi Sijia in unison. Xiao Su coughed awkwardly. “This is Auntie Cai.”
Qi Sijia’s expression was neutral. She nodded at the supervisor as a greeting.
After Xiao Su left, the aunties’ eyes lit up. A few enthusiastic aunties walked over with expressive faces, but Qi Sijia actively avoided them as soon as they approached.
Her aura was cold and ascetic, which was very obvious when she wasn’t smiling.
And she was tall. Even without seeing her face, her slender legs standing there, among all the aunties, still gave off a sense of being a crane among chickens, an imposing presence.
The aunties stopped in their tracks and closed their mouths in unison.
In fact, Qi Sijia was not feeling well at this moment. The crowd made her feel a little irritable.
She half-lowered her eyes, not wanting to say another word.
It wasn’t that she was pretending to be cold, but being stared at by so many people, she couldn’t even get past the first mental hurdle.
She had originally thought that starting work meant going directly to her assigned building to clean, but she hadn’t expected there to be a meeting in the cleaning room.
Qi Sijia frowned. Fortunately, she had prepared a gas mask in advance. It was a little better when she put it on.
Without waiting for pleasantries, she turned to the supervisor. “Where is the locker room?”
She rarely spoke. Her voice was emotionless, deep and cold, her tone as icy as melting snow.
It was as if she were the leader.
The supervisor didn’t react and showed her to the locker room.
The awkward atmosphere didn’t last long. The work of a cleaning auntie was not very valuable.
The supervisor only had the right to assign buildings.
The topic returned to who would go to clean Building 8. All the aunties present were old friends with the supervisor. They pushed and shoved, and in the end, the supervisor glanced at the aloof and insubordinate Qi Sijia and assigned the work of Building 8 to her.
Qi Sijia changed into her cleaning uniform in the locker room, checked her gas mask in her bag, and made sure it was on properly.
When she walked out, another young girl had arrived in the cleaning room.
The girl’s name was Gui Xiaolian, 20 years old, a college student.
“Where’s your mom?”
“She’s sick.” Unlike Qi Sijia, the aunties in the cleaning room knew Gui Xiaolian and spoke to her familiarly.
The supervisor turned a blind eye and said, “Your mom is too much. She was so sick a month ago and didn’t even tell me. She only took two days off after you came home from break. Why work so hard? At our age, our health is more important than making money.”
The girl lowered her eyes.
“I heard your rental place is going to be demolished. Have you found a new place yet?”
“Do you have any recommendations? The affordable housing nearby is too expensive for my family.”
The supervisor knew her family’s situation. She sighed, walked over, and patted Gui Xiaolian’s shoulder comfortingly.
In a typical residential community, the busiest time for cleaning work was in the morning. If you weren’t quick, you wouldn’t be able to finish a day’s work.
The supervisor didn’t delay any longer. After arranging things, she found Qi Sijia in the corner, briefly explained the daily work routine to her, and left.
Qi Sijia was responsible for cleaning the entire Building 8 and the daily pruning and watering of the common garden downstairs.
In the morning, during the peak hours when the owners were going to work, while all the other aunties rushed into the buildings to clean, Qi Sijia carried a bucket of water and went to water the flowers in the common garden she was responsible for.
In fact, this garden area was right in front of Qi Sijia’s new house.
The building was exquisitely decorated. The small bungalow was surrounded by a European-style fence. The outside was a common area, and the inside was her home.
Through the gaps, you could see the layout of the bungalow with a small courtyard.
In the future, she would plant vegetables in the courtyard, build a shed for the orange cat to sunbathe, and go home directly after work to reduce unnecessary travel.
The top priority was to find a designer to come over and furnish the place.
Just as she was thinking, the water ran out. Qi Sijia carried the small watering can and turned to get water. She met Gui Xiaolian by the faucet.
The girl had a dimple. When she smiled, it sunk in, and she approached with a sunny face. “I’m covering for my mom. Are you covering for your mom too?”
Qi Sijia shook her head. She wasn’t used to people getting close. She took a step back and said, “I’m here for work.”
“Cleaning?”
“Mmm.”
Gui Xiaolian was completely stunned.
The air was silent for three seconds before Gui Xiaolian found her voice. “I’m sorry, you’re about my age, right? It’s surprising to see you doing this job.”
Gui Xiaolian thought Qi Sijia was like her own mother, forced by life to do hard labor.
Feeling sympathetic, she couldn’t help but say a few more words.
“Be careful later.”
“The top-floor owner has a serious case of OCD. The last cleaning auntie who left was because she was complained about.”
Qi Sijia looked straight ahead.
Without a response, Gui Xiaolian coughed awkwardly. “Of course, the last auntie might not have been serious about her work, slacking off—”
“I know.” Qi Sijia looked up at Gui Xiaolian and said, “Thank you.”
Meeting those clear, cold black eyes through the goggles, Gui Xiaolian was stunned for a moment. She felt that this person wasn’t so unapproachable after all. She was about to give her more advice, but when she came to her senses, she found that Qi Sijia had already left.
She had no choice but to carry her bucket and mop and return to Building 7 to clean.
