Chapter 166: Livestream
She returned to school, resuming her studies, preparing for the upcoming exams.
And of course, continuing to promote her novel.
But something about her had changed, a subtle shift in her demeanor, perhaps a loss of her earlier approachability.
Fang Jiangning, initially oblivious, continued studying and spending time with her as usual.
“Linna, what score are you aiming for on today’s quiz?”
“Nothing special, just first place.”
“That’s a low bar. You’re already first. Why not aim higher?”
“Doesn’t matter.”
“By the way, I’m planning to livestream to promote your new book. Want to join me?”
“…Sure.”
Yu Linna figured promoting her own book wasn’t a bad idea. And it had been a while since she last cosplayed as Little Na; it was a good opportunity to revive the persona.
Fang Jiangning, thrilled by her agreement, pumped her fists in the air. Her livestream viewers had been asking about Little Na, initially ignored, but their persistence had made her realize Yu Linna hadn’t appeared on her streams in a while.
She had tentatively asked Yu Linna to join her stream, cosplaying for her viewers.
And she had agreed.
So, she was enthusiastic when it came to her novel. Fang Jiangning felt like she had uncovered a valuable piece of information.
After school that day, while her mother was still at work, Fang Jiangning quickly did Yu Linna’s makeup and prepared her cosplay outfit. She had initially planned a casual Milim Nava dress, but Yu Linna refused to show her face, much to Fang Jiangning’s disappointment.
But she had a solution: dressing Yu Linna in a Demon Lord Milim outfit, complete with a Rimuru Tempest mask, the same one she had worn during her previous livestream appearance, and a pink twintail wig, a perfect match for the anime character.
“Perfect! Ready for the livestream! You look amazing, Linna!”
Fang Jiangning was satisfied with the look. Though it was a shame to hide her face behind a mask, Yu Linna’s figure and demeanor were perfect for the character. Though she had considered another Rimuru cosplay, she wanted to try a different look.
“Hello everyone, and welcome to my stream! I’m Dancing Angel, and today, we have a talent show! Feel free to request songs! Also, I’m going to promote a novel written by a friend of mine.”
Fang Jiangning’s cheerful voice filled the livestream as she positioned the camera, focusing on her hands resting on the keyboard. Viewers flooded the chat, sending gifts and greetings.
“Long time no see, Little Angel! Been busy lately? You haven’t been uploading as many videos.”
“I’ll always love Little Angel.jpg.”
“Little Angel is promoting a novel? And a friend of yours is a writer? What kind of novel is worthy of Little Angel’s promotion?”
The chat was filled with messages, the stream’s popularity soaring. Fang Jiangning’s livestreams were always popular, consistently ranking among the top five.
“And I have a special guest today! Long time no see, Little Na! Everyone, welcome her!”
She turned the camera towards Yu Linna, who was dressed as Demon Lord Milim, in a white dress, a pink twintail wig, and the Rimuru mask, looking slightly bewildered, as if caught off guard.
“Wow, it’s Little Na! Long time no see!”
“Long time no see!”
“+1”
“+2”
“+3”
“Demon Lord Milim! So cute! Can you take off the Rimuru mask?”
“Show us your face!”
“Take off the mask, Little Na!”
Yu Linna sat there, unmoving, though secretly pleased by the stream’s popularity. As someone not used to livestreaming, the attention was a welcome surprise.
“Little Na isn’t a streamer, so she doesn’t stream regularly. I had to beg her to join my stream today. You know what to do, guys.”
Fang Jiangning’s playful tone elicited a flurry of activity from her viewers.
“Sending a small TV!”
“There’s nothing a small TV can’t solve. If one isn’t enough, then two!”
“Sending one too!”
“I’ll just send coins. I’m broke…”
“Thank you! Thank you!”
Fang Jiangning beamed, her decision to invite Yu Linna clearly a good one, the virtual gifts a welcome sight.
She wished Yu Linna could show her face. For a streamer, hiding behind a mask was frustrating. If it weren’t for her parents’ strict rules, she would have revealed her face long ago. She wanted to connect with her fans more directly.
“Little Angel, can you ask Little Na to create a Bilibili account? If you two streamed together, it would be so popular!”
“Yes! Little Angel, ask Little Na to stream! Or you two could stream together!”
“I can’t make her do that. Little Na is very busy. She doesn’t have time to stream, right?”
Fang Jiangning winked at Yu Linna.
“Yes, I’m very busy. I don’t have time to stream. Sorry to disappoint you.”
Yu Linna’s voice was apologetic.
“Sad.”
“+1”
“+2”
“Why not? Little Na is so cute!”
“Exactly! We protest!”
Yu Linna chuckled at the messages scrolling across the screen. These fans were amusing. But she couldn’t become a streamer; she was a novelist, her schedule already full. She couldn’t waste time on livestreaming.
“As compensation, you can ask Little Na to do something, like sing or play an instrument.”
“Little Na, can you sing and dance?”
Seeing the message, Yu Linna glared at Fang Jiangning. Didn’t she know she couldn’t sing?
“Ahem, I’m not very good at singing, and I definitely can’t dance. Please don’t request songs.”
“No! Little Na, please sing ‘Let Go’!”
“Yes! We agree!”
“Let Go!”
“Let Go +2!”
Why a breakup song? Was this the collective angst of single viewers? Though she thought a love song would be more appropriate, a breakup song wasn’t bad either.
After all, she didn’t like couples.
“Fine, I’ll sing it once. But I’m not very good, so don’t expect too much.”
The chat exploded with anticipation. They didn’t care if she was a good singer; they just wanted to hear her sing.
“Let’s hug, as if we were never together. Is it too late for explanations…?”
Her voice was pleasant, soothing, though not particularly strong or technically skilled, occasionally off-key, clearly amateur.
But no one cared; they just wanted to hear her sing, to enjoy her voice.
These days, who cared about technical skill in a livestream? It was about entertainment, not a graded performance.
“Mmm, Little Na’s voice is so nice.”
“Little Na is amazing!”
“It’s a shame you’re not a streamer.”
Yu Linna, however, felt a sense of detachment, especially reading those comments.
Her singing was mediocre at best, her skills lacking. Compared to Nangong Ying, she was clearly amateur.
“Alright, enough with the talent show. Let’s get to the main event. Today, I’m promoting a novel, Ballad of the Enchantress, releasing on April 3rd. I’ve already read the entire manuscript, and I can tell you, it’s amazing! Please support it!”
Fang Jiangning repositioned the camera, focusing on her computer screen, opening Wenqing’s official website, displaying the list of April releases, her cursor hovering over Ballad of the Enchantress.
“It’s a fantasy time-travel novel, and I love the romance! You’ll definitely enjoy it! It’s written by a friend of mine, so please support it! If you like novels, don’t miss this one!”
Her enthusiastic endorsement made her viewers even more curious.
“Little Angel, who’s your friend? Is Ballad of the Enchantress really that good?”
“Wait, isn’t that the novel that won the Wenqing Gold Award? Wow, Little Angel, your friend is a big deal!”
“Holy shit, you’re right!”
“6666”
“Little Angel, you’re such a tease! Does your family know?”
“Little Angel, where’s your friend, Shion? Bring them out!”
“Little Angel is a true VIP!”
“Who’s Shion? Newbie here.”
“Newbie, go search on Baidu. Shion-sensei is this year’s Wenqing Gold Award winner.”
As the chat exploded with excitement, Yu Linna watched, her heart warming.
All her friends, Zhao Yuyan, Fang Jiangning… they were all supporting her, promoting her novel in their own way. She was truly grateful for their genuine support, their friendship.
She was so happy.
She couldn’t let them down; her novel had to be a success, a success worthy of their efforts. She couldn’t fail.
“Please support my novel when it’s released. It’s a wonderful story.”
Unable to contain herself, she spoke directly to the camera, eager to promote her work, to generate interest.
“For Little Angel and Little Na, I’ll give it a try.”
“The way Little Na said that… it’s like she’s the author…”
“Don’t be ridiculous. Little Na doesn’t seem like the type to write novels.”
“We’ll support you!”
Some viewers were close to the truth, though they hadn’t fully grasped it.
Which was a good thing for Yu Linna.
