111. An Easy to Understand Dummy (Part 5)
Reina felt much better.
It was all thanks to Liya.
She never thought that some subordinates could not only be valuable assets but also provide excellent emotional support.
They were a huge part of her successful management of Calysia!
So, Reina didn’t rush to get an explanation from Calysia.
She decided to first meet with the other wedding guests.
In her high spirits, she suddenly felt the urge to show off her beautiful wedding dress.
The number of wedding guests was vast.
And the reason the wedding wasn’t held in the Silver Dragon Airspace was for the guests from other races.
Besides the dragons themselves, there were also the blood race and the dark elves.
Seeing the blood race nobles and generals dressed in their formal attire, Reina felt it was quite normal.
Their skin was completely devoid of blood, making them easy to identify.
And Reina noticed that the blood race and the dragon race seemed to get along quite well, with no major conflicts between the two races. It was a harmonious scene.
But the dark elves were different.
—They were a race almost identical to the fantasy elves, but they had colorful, demonic pupils and dark hair, looking like elves corrupted by some god. This might be the reason why the elves had fallen into the demon race over the long years.
They were physically weak but excelled at magic. The Dark Elf Queen’s magical prowess was particularly astonishing, making her the strongest of the Four Kings of the Realms besides Calysia.
—Of course, now, it was uncertain who was stronger between the Beast King and the Dark Elf Queen.
The Dark Elf Queen had long black hair and wore a long robe with loose sleeves, only revealing a few slender, black-painted fingernails. Ignoring her current status, she looked like a mature housewife.
Her smile was extremely mysterious, and her dark golden eyes seemed to see through everything.
What concerned Reina even more was that this Dark Elf Queen was a member of the [Gate of the Celestial Realm] plan.
The dark elves had always maintained neutrality, rarely seen causing trouble on the historical stage.
But now they had actually come to the wedding, bringing with them a large amount of treasure as gifts to the dragon race.
Reina, however, believed the situation wasn’t optimistic.
Since they were all trying to curry favor with the dragon race, it meant that the threat of the Beast King was felt even by the dark elves, which wasn’t a good sign.
“That savage and crazy woman.”
Just as Reina was observing the dark elves in the corner, Sophia stealthily approached, looking at the Dark Elf Queen with disdain.
She was wearing a girlish dress, even more formal than last time. The lace-trimmed short skirt made her look somewhat playful and cute, a unique contrast.
“Reina, although the dark elves are showing you goodwill, I still feel that you shouldn’t trust them easily.”
“I understand.”
Reina gave Sophia a speechless look but still nodded, swirling the red wine in her glass.
“The Dark Elf Queen is a genius in forbidden magic… or rather, a madwoman.”
“Although she has restrained herself from using forbidden magic since Calysia destroyed all the books on the subject, no one knows what she’s really thinking.”
“By the way, what are you going to say at the wedding, Reina?”
Sophia was like a little girl eager for gossip.
Reina was confused: “What?”
In her impression, wasn’t a wedding just a process where the officiant asked a bunch of questions to promote a long and happy life together, and the couple just had to keep answering “I do” to end this awkward and embarrassing journey?
Sophia smiled mischievously: “It seems Reina doesn’t know. I won’t spoil it for you then.”
“Please, you must tell me!”
Seeing the stars sparkling in Reina’s eyes, Sophia finally sighed and told her the truth.
It turned out that the weddings of long-lived races like the blood race and the dragon race had one thing in common.
That was, there was no officiant. The two brides were free to improvise on stage.
Although it was called improvisation, there were still “cultural customs” involved.
They had to ask each other a question.
And the other party could choose to answer in front of everyone, or in the “bridal chamber” after the wedding. Answering in secret or in public was also part of the romanticism.
—Yes, after the wedding, it was a night of consummation.
Reina didn’t really care about the night of consummation, because she had been living like this for the past two months.
What she cared about was the “question.”
If it were a normal situation, Reina would just ask something perfunctory, like “how many children do you want” or “do you love me,” something cliché but easy to understand.
But Calysia seemed to have something on her mind.
She needed to think about what to say to make Calysia happy.
And not to make others happy.
At noon, Reina ate in the hall. The place was very free, like a high-end, luxurious pedestrian street, or a social gathering for nobles.
In the afternoon, Azure and Fire found Reina. They had prepared blessings and gifts, which were placed in the center of the hall for passersby to offer their blessings… which made Reina feel a little embarrassed.
Ann didn’t arrive at the wedding hall until the afternoon… she had just finished dealing with matters concerning the Church of Light.
She took over Shining Scale Liya’s place, and the new [No-Scale Heavenly Moon] followed Reina closely, while also discussing the future development of the Church of Light—yes, the future of the Church of Light was completely out of human hands. Reina suddenly felt a sense of irony.
Soon, the wedding officially began.
The lights dimmed, and only the stage was clearly visible.
Everyone gathered below the stage, their gazes filled with anticipation and excitement, like a concert waiting for the singer to appear, but no one dared to shout in the silence.
Reina and Calysia stood at opposite ends of the stage. Under the flickering lights, they approached each other.
Calysia was wearing the same wedding dress as Reina, but in silver-white.
Reina suddenly felt nervous.
If she didn’t match Calysia’s pace, it would be very awkward. She had to maintain a woman’s elegance and gentleness, after all, she was the “bride” in the true sense of the word.
And while trying to maintain her composure, Reina discovered that the questions she had prepared had vanished from her mind. When Calysia stood before her, her mind also went blank.
—She was actually scared at this critical moment.
All eyes were on her, the expectations of countless people becoming a heavy burden.
If it were in the bedchamber, she wouldn’t be so shy.
But when Reina looked up, she suddenly discovered that Calysia was also very nervous.
She kept her eyes lowered, not daring to meet Reina’s gaze, as if trying to avoid something.
“Reina…”
Calysia said softly, her voice so low that almost only Reina could hear it.
Reina’s heart was in her throat.
She knew that Calysia’s feelings or surprise might all be contained in this one question.
Suddenly, the sense of distance from the past few days, the sweet confession scene in the [Place of Prayer], all flooded Reina’s mind.
What question would she ask?
How many children do I want?
Or how long should we play tonight?
She couldn’t possibly say such shameless things in public.
It was really hard to guess.
And just then, Calysia’s lips curled into a smile.
A fragile smile.
…
Her pupils were like violets, their sadness condensed into dazzling gems.
Tears suddenly welled up in her eyes, streaming down her cheeks and landing on the back of her hand.
She said, her voice choked with sobs:
“…Will you… forgive me?”
Reina’s mind went blank.
