Chapter 99: The Ice Queen Campus Belle
“Teacher Chu, when can we go back to the way things were?”
Xie Mingyue murmured, her head bowed. Sometimes, she felt on the verge of collapse, wanting to rush into the snow and end it all. Living was more tiring than dying.
Chu Liu smiled and placed a hand on her shoulder. “It won’t be long.”
Looking at her smile, Xie Mingyue nodded and wiped her eyes, then went to move the mats.
Chu Liu sighed, asking herself, Can we ever go back? Is it even possible?
Like yesterday, when it seemed like it was all over, everyone thought the disaster had passed, that rescue was coming.
But who would have thought it would snow…
She even heard some boys cheering, because they could do as they pleased again, no longer human, but untamable animals.
Suddenly, the lights in the stadium went out.
Everyone was stunned. Xu Fu yelled, “Don’t panic! I’ll go check the fuse box!”
He and Jiang Shan went to investigate.
But a lookout shouted, “The library still has power!”
Xu Fu ran up the steps to the window and saw that the library indeed still had power.
Soon, Jiang Shan returned. “The fuse box is fine. It’s probably…”
Gao Shengtian. He had cut the power, wanting to freeze them to death!
The heating was already weak, and now with no electricity, it was gone completely. The temperature inside was dropping rapidly.
Chu Liu and Xie Mingyue ran over, their phones as flashlights. “Did the circuit breaker trip?”
“Teacher Chu, no. It was probably that bastard Gao Shengtian.”
Jiang Shan slammed his fist against the wall, wincing in pain, but he was furious!
Chu Liu looked at the students and shouted, “Everyone, let’s go to the small warehouse next door! There are plenty of mats in there we can use for cover!”
Some of the girls weren’t dressed warmly, just a single jacket. They were shivering, their resolve wavering…
Just offering my body for food and water, no more freezing and suffering… Why did I follow them? Now I can’t even go back.
Not just one girl, but at least half of them regretted their decision. Compared to dying, sleeping with a boy didn’t seem so bad.
They all moved to the warehouse, even the wounded were carried in. But it was clear to anyone with eyes that they wouldn’t last until morning.
“Everyone, huddle together! It won’t be so cold!”
Chu Liu reminded them. For now, all they could do was huddle for warmth.
Xu Fu suddenly came in with an armful of wooden sticks. A blast of cold air followed him, like a knife against their skin.
“I broke some chairs for firewood. It won’t be so cold.”
Chu Liu said in a low voice, “No, this space is too small, and we can’t ventilate it. We’ll get carbon monoxide poisoning.”
“Then what about outside?”
Jiang Shan suggested.
A girl whispered, “It’s even colder outside. A small fire won’t be enough to keep us warm.”
Xu Fu wanted to help, but in this cold weather, were there no other options?
“Why don’t we… just go over there?”
After a long silence, a girl finally said weakly. She didn’t want to freeze to death here.
The boys frowned. One of them, with a fiery temper, snapped, “You’re the ones who wanted to leave, and now you want to go back? Did my brothers die for nothing?”
“Who was it that said they would rather die than be insulted by those animals? Now it’s a little cold, and you’re willing to be their playthings? What a disgrace!”
The boys were indignant. It felt so worthless. Why had they been so stupid as to protect these ungrateful wolves?!
“Everyone, stop arguing!”
Xu Fu roared, and everyone fell silent.
“Everyone has their own choices. I, Xu Fu, will never force anyone to stay. If you want to go, then go.”
A girl stood up and shouted, “Is anyone coming with me? It’s better than freezing to death here. We can just trade our bodies.”
“I’ll go with you.”
A timid-looking girl raised her hand and stood up.
“Me too…”
A long-haired girl next to her also agreed, her head bowed low.
The boys spat in disgust.
It was this same long-haired girl who had been so vocal about not fearing power, about fighting to the end. She had surrendered before the end had even come.
More than forty girls chose to leave, but many still chose to stay, even if it meant freezing to death, they wouldn’t let those animals touch them.
The girls who were leaving started making makeshift gear. It was snowing, not raining, so foot protection was essential.
They tore up cardboard boxes, planning to use them as umbrellas and to cover their bodies to protect them from the snow. For their feet, they used plastic or iron buckets. The snow wasn’t too deep yet, so they had a chance to make it. By morning, it would be impossible.
In the warehouse, Xie Mingyue watched them leave. To survive, they were truly not afraid of death.
Suddenly, the timid-looking girl fell. Xie Mingyue covered her mouth. She had been on good terms with her…
Sure enough, a few seconds later, she started convulsing, like she was having a seizure, and then she was gone.
“What are you all waiting for? If you don’t want to end up like her, hurry up and go!”
At the leader’s words, the girls started moving slowly.
A three-hundred-meter journey, and one was already dead.
In the library, it was also a bit cold, but there was still some heating, within a tolerable range.
There were at least three hundred people gathered there, a hundred boys and two hundred girls. There had been more boys before, but many had died.
“Come and look! Those people are coming over again!”
A girl shouted with a sneer.
Everyone went to the windows to watch.
“Damn, putting on airs. Now they’re coming back to get screwed, right, Brother Sheng?”
The girl said, trying to curry favor with Gao Shengtian.
But he just pushed her away and said coldly, “Get lost! Get any closer to me, and I’ll throw you outside!”
The girl quickly moved aside, watching as he walked towards another girl, her heart filled with jealousy. It’s the apocalypse, and this bitch is still acting all high and mighty. Only Gao Shengtian would fall for that. Any other man would have already had his way with her.
By a bookshelf, a girl was flipping through a book, her delicate face calm, a stark contrast to the other girls. She looked as if she had just come to the library for a quiet read, oblivious to the chaos outside.
All the girls knew that Xie Mingyue was the “commoner campus belle,” and Lu Yudíe was the “ice queen campus belle.” Her family was super rich, and her car was a Bentley GT.
