Chapter 15: Did Master Come?
Mingyan looked down and saw that Gu Hanshuang had stopped sucking. He withdrew his finger and checked her condition again. The erosion of her spirit channels had stopped. He relaxed.
However, she showed no signs of waking up.
He slipped his arm under her knees and lifted her. He couldn’t leave her here alone.
She had been dragged into this because of him. He couldn’t let her get hurt again.
He carried her to the entrance of the temple. The door was still ajar. The old monk was standing at the entrance again, his hands clasped together. “Have you two benefactors come to a decision?”
Mingyan ignored him and walked past, entering the temple.
Inside, golden statues of Buddha lined the walls. At the front, a large Buddha was enshrined, but its head was missing, a strange sight.
Were the things here real? He pondered this.
This was another small world, its purpose to suppress the demon monk.
This temple was likely just an illusion. He carried Gu Hanshuang and walked through it.
In the back of the temple, he saw a pile of bones, sitting cross-legged on a cushion. A faint blue glow emanated from them, as if an old monk was sitting there.
Was this the demon monk’s true form?
His eyes flickered. He set Gu Hanshuang down, drew her long sword from its scabbard, and swung.
“Clang!”
A crisp sound echoed. Not even a scratch was left on the bones.
“Benefactor, it is a great disrespect to use violence against the deceased,” the old monk appeared beside them again, like a ghost. Although his face was benevolent, he exuded a cold aura.
Mingyan looked at him. His face was calm, and he looked at Mingyan as if… he were looking at a dead man.
“That brother or sister of mine must have made you hate them to the bone, right?” Mingyan sheathed the sword and looked at the old monk. “Suppressing you here, never to be free. That’s more painful than killing you directly.”
The old monk clasped his hands together, his voice calm. “Benefactor, there is no need for more words. Let go of your attachments and let me guide you to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. The flesh is weak…”
“You just want to occupy my body. Why do you have to be so sanctimonious?” Mingyan interrupted him, sneering.
The old monk looked at him, a crazed smile on his face. “Rest assured, Benefactor. After you go to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, I will live on in your place, with your memories. Your family and friends will be my family and friends. The mortal world is hell. Let me send you to the Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, and I will descend into hell in your place. If I don’t go to hell, who will?”
Mingyan sighed. “Do you really think you can occupy my body?”
“Benefactor, you can’t esca—” The old monk’s words suddenly stopped. The crazed smile on his face vanished, and his expression became calm. “You can’t escape.”
The pile of bones on the cushion slowly stood up. The old monk transformed into a streak of light and flew into the bones. In a short time, flesh and blood grew on the bones. Mingyan quickly picked up Gu Hanshuang and retreated.
Soon, the bones had transformed into the old monk. He looked at Mingyan calmly. “I didn’t want to do this, but it seems you’re too attached to this world, Benefactor. I have to do it myself.”
He reached out, and in the blink of an eye, he was before Mingyan, his hand outstretched, as if to crush his head. Mingyan’s heart tightened. He used Star Gap and quickly distanced himself. Space seemed to shrink beneath his feet, and he leaped a great distance!
“Hmm? This speed?” The old monk was surprised, then smiled. “Very good, very good. It seems you have quite a few opportunities.”
Mingyan frowned. The man’s “yours is mine” attitude disgusted him.
He didn’t feel an overwhelming force. The man hadn’t recovered to that extent. So why did he suddenly attack? Mingyan remembered the old monk’s sudden pause earlier and realized. Had someone arrived? Could it be his master?
The old monk’s face was calm. He stepped forward, a crimson glow enveloping him. The surrounding space trembled, becoming heavier!
But as a Human King Physique, Mingyan was naturally immune to restrictions. Seeing the old monk approach again, a faint blue glow appeared around him, and a blue palm slapped out.
The old monk’s face turned as black as ink. He was about to easily dodge when he suddenly felt his body grow heavy. He looked up and saw the sun and moon phenomena rise simultaneously, their light intertwining, an ancient aura spreading, ancient laws imprisoning him.
“Slap!” Mingyan’s palm struck the old monk’s face. He felt a sharp pain in his hand. This old thing’s body was too hard! He couldn’t hurt him!
It was a good thing he was a Human King Physique, with an incredibly strong body. If it had been anyone else, a single slap would have likely shattered their own arm!
“You bastard!” The old monk’s eyes were cold. To be so humiliated by a mere Qi Sea Realm junior made his anger flare.
He broke free from the sun and moon’s restraint, a dark red blood Qi surging from him. He stepped forward, a golden alms bowl appearing in his hand. Strange characters, which Mingyan had never seen before, glowed on it. The bowl expanded, breaking through the temple roof, and descended towards him and Gu Hanshuang!
The Netherworld Dragon Tendon Bow flew out from his Qi Sea. The “*” and “#” symbols on either end of the bow glowed brightly and struck the golden bowl.
“Clang!”
At that moment, Mingyan had already carried Gu Hanshuang and escaped from under the bowl.
The Netherworld Dragon Tendon Bow was made from Supreme Dao Immortal Gold and a true dragon tendon, incredibly durable. Sensing its master was in danger, it had automatically risen to fight the golden bowl, showing no signs of weakness.
“Netherworld Immortal Gold! And that… what is that?” The old monk recognized the immortal gold but not the dragon tendon.
The Dragon and Phoenix were the two great God Clans of ancient times, but the Dragon Clan had gone extinct much earlier than the Phoenix Clan. They had long since disappeared from history. A dragon tendon was an incredibly rare item, almost impossible to obtain without great fortune. It was normal for the old monk not to recognize it.
“You have quite a few treasures…” the old monk’s laughter was cold. Just as he spoke, his face stiffened, and his body was briefly restricted again. Mingyan kicked him in the face, sending him stumbling back a few steps.
“None of your business. They’re mine.” Mingyan rushed forward, his crimson blood Qi erupting, fully activating his Human King Physique. He clenched his right fist, and each finger glowed with a dazzling golden light. He used a fist technique from the Sun and Moon Scripture and punched the old monk in the side of the face.
“Clang!”
He felt as if he had punched a giant bell. The deafening sound made his eardrums ache! The strong recoil made his blood surge, and he stumbled back a few steps.
This was too hard! Mingyan flexed his wrist, his expression grim. It was a good thing this demon monk hadn’t recovered much of his strength. Even so, he was difficult to deal with.
