68. A Fabricated Family
This matter required a lot of preparation beforehand.
After all, Baili Yue wasn’t a fool.
To make him act, just saying “I divined it” wasn’t enough.
A whole set of procedures was needed, such as evidence of visiting the Youcang Court, whether they had paid attention to the Eight Desolations Sword Alliance, and proof of any recent strange activities.
This all required rigorous verification to ensure that the State Preceptor wasn’t being bribed to cause trouble.
Yes.
Baili Yue certainly didn’t trust him completely, especially since the State Preceptor knew all the country’s secrets. If such a matter could be decided by one person, then there was no need for an emperor.
However, although Yue Huasheng couldn’t handle all the problems, his divination had never been wrong.
And what was the consequence of this? The ultimate person in charge of investigating this series of events…
Was also him.
So, although the process was troublesome, Yue Huasheng knew all the details and could use them to fabricate evidence.
And so, after two days of preparation, a fabricated family emerged.
This family was called the Wu family. Their ancestor was a genius named Wu Qian, who, along with the renowned Zheng family, was known as one of the twin heroes who protected the country.
Because the Wu family was too ostentatious, the Baili family at the time couldn’t tolerate them, and there were many rumors spread about them in the capital.
For example, the arbiters from their family who dealt with various matters were all blind.
In fact, although they were blind, they had a unique “Mind’s Eye” technique that allowed them to make fair judgments despite their blindness.
But others didn’t know this.
And those who didn’t know, naturally slandered them, even to the point of reaching the royal family.
The Baili royal family used this opportunity to suppress them. Because of their past relationship, they didn’t completely annihilate them.
After that, the Wu family went into seclusion, living a very low-key life in the capital, so low-key that it was as if they didn’t exist.
Of course, although they were low-key, it didn’t mean they weren’t planning something.
“You mean…” Baili Yue looked at Yue Linqiu and frowned. “Even a family that was pardoned by our ancestors is now making a move?”
—Although Baili Yue didn’t know who this Wu family was.
His ancestors, knowing what they had done, had tried to change the official history, so the entire royal history book looked like a story of ten wise kings conquering the world.
Good heavens, if that were true, the Baiyao Dynasty would have conquered the entire continent seven or eight times already.
“Pardon is one thing.” Yue Linqiu fanned himself and said, “They were once at their peak, and then someone deliberately framed them, and the royal family even stepped on them. It’s only natural for them to harbor resentment.”
“Now, with their family in decline and their ancient inheritance almost lost, they have to risk everything to regain their former glory.”
Yue Linqiu’s words were reasonable.
Baili Yue thought for a moment, then asked, “What about the results of the subsequent investigation?”
Yue Linqiu immediately called for his assistant, who brought a thick stack of documents.
“This document records everything about them in the past thousand years, including how they got involved with the Youcang Court, and what they’ve been doing in secret.”
“There are a lot of miscellaneous things. I’ve already listed the key points for you. Of course, if you want to see the full version, feel free.”
Baili Yue casually flipped through the summary, then waved his hand dismissively. “That’s enough. It’s no different from last time. You can handle the rest yourself.”
“Understood.”
Yue Linqiu then said to his assistant, “What are you still standing there for? Take it back!”
“Yes.”
“Wait!”
Just as the assistant was about to leave, Baili Yue suddenly stopped her. “You, the one assisting him, turn around.”
The assistant froze, then immediately knelt down and begged for mercy. “Your Majesty, please forgive me! I didn’t greet you! I deserve to die!”
Her outburst confused Baili Yue.
Strange… why did he stop her?
“Your Majesty,” Yue Linqiu immediately said, “it is my fault. This person has always been my personal assistant. Because she is skilled in academic calculations, she has never learned the court etiquette.”
“For her offense, I am willing to take the blame.”
“Uh…”
Baili Yue had almost remembered what he wanted to say, but with Yue Linqiu’s interruption, he completely forgot.
He frowned. “Alright, be careful next time. You may leave.”
“I take my leave.”
“I take my leave.”
As they left the room, Baili Yue was still trying to remember why he had stopped that woman.
Perhaps because she reminded him of someone? But he couldn’t quite remember who.

Outside the door, after the guards had closed it, Gong Yiling said with a puzzled expression, “What did that guy want? Good thing I reacted quickly.”
“You’re quite a cautious actor.” Yue Huasheng smiled. “You didn’t even know why Baili Yue stopped you, and you just acted like that?”
“It’s a reflex. I just feel that doing so is never a good thing.” Miss Gong swung her somewhat stiff arms.
It was much more enjoyable to stroll around the Heartflame Empire as an Immortal Master. Here, she was almost turning into a zombie from all the etiquette.
“Actually, you don’t have to be involved in this.”
Yue Huasheng took the several scrolls that seemed to be filled with writing.
He opened one, and it was blank except for six words written inside and out.
Baili Yue won’t look.
Of course, this wasn’t something he had divined, but something he had deduced.
“If I don’t participate, I don’t know what you’ll do to me.” Gong Yiling casually stuffed the remaining documents into her Universe Bag and muttered, “After all, you’re not a very trustworthy person in my eyes. It’s better for me to be careful.”
“Who knows when you’ll suddenly summon a group of Red and Black Demon Slayers to kill me. You’ve done it before.”
“Heh…”
As Yue Huasheng chuckled, he seemed to subconsciously place his hand to his ear, a rather incomprehensible empty gesture.
Gong Yiling noticed this, but she didn’t think much of it at the time.
What she cared about was that she should be able to see her father soon.
