Stirring Things Up in the Wasteland 34

Chapter 34

Second stop, the feed mill…

This was also a bit of a detour. When they were initially planning the routes, Chang Fei and Shi Tou were still out hoarding fuel, so Song Xun had basically scouted the routes alone.

Jingbei City was too big; she couldn’t cover it all by herself.

So, naturally, she couldn’t include every place in the entire city.

But the key locations had indeed been planned out, such as the library, the department store, the feed mill, the ranch, and the meat factory.

Eight hours was, after all, too short. And in those eight hours, they had to subtract the travel time. It was impossible to collect everything. So they had devised an optimal route, aiming to get the most things in the shortest amount of time.

But the library had thrown all their plans into disarray.

Well, not exactly disarrayed, but the route needed to be changed. To save time, after leaving the library, the three of them could only go to the nearest place.

The feed mill.

As for the department store, although it was closer and they could hoard a lot of food, clothing, and other essentials there, for Song Xun, it wasn’t as practical as the feed mill.

After all, without feed, she couldn’t feed the pigs, sheep, and cows in her space. And if she couldn’t feed them, they couldn’t grow up and have babies.

And if they didn’t have babies, where would the endless supply of meat come from?

So, the feed mill was a must.

This factory was located in a factory district in the suburbs, with several large and small factories. But there were only two places Song Xun could use.

The feed mill, and a courier transit station.

Chang Fei drove the assault boat at full throttle, roaring across the dark water.

He was trying to reach their destination as quickly as possible.

As for whether they would attract attention? He couldn’t be bothered with that now.

After all, they didn’t live here.

They arrived at 3:20 AM.

There was no one around. The storm had just started, so there was a bit of a buffer period. Those who could leave had already left.

The location was quite high, and although the water had risen, it only came up to their calves.

This was one of the largest feed mills in Jingbei City.

In the darkness, the three headlamps cast a blinding light, illuminating the front with exceptional clarity. The water was shallow here, so the assault boat couldn’t go any further.

Song Xun put away the boat, and the three of them, wearing rain boots and raincoats, broke down the door and went in. Time was tight, so they went into the first workshop they saw.

The raw materials room. Stacks of various raw materials for making feed were piled up. The ones at the bottom were a bit soaked, but Song Xun didn’t care.

It was impossible to be picky. In short, she would take it all first.

Fortunately, there were labels on top, so they weren’t completely blind. But they didn’t look closely when they were collecting them.

Corn, soybeans, soybean meal, miscellaneous meal, grains, sweet sorghum, and bran—as long as it was in a stack, she could take it all.

But it saved a lot of trouble. If they had been scattered, it would have been even more of a waste of time.

While she was collecting here, Chang Fei and Shi Tou went to look for other places.

Such a large factory, not every place was useful.

To save time, they needed to pick out all the useful things.

The three of them worked together seamlessly, a whirlwind of collection.

She still didn’t understand the difference between grain-based feed, soybean meal-based feed, by-product feed, and oil-based feed, but that didn’t stop her from collecting them.

In the end, she had collected several warehouses of feed ingredients and even found the factory’s power room, in a room on the third floor.

It hadn’t been flooded yet. There was one large generator and two smaller backup generators. She also found several large oil barrels.

Finally, she found the production workshop and collected several sets of production equipment. This stuff would be incredibly useful in the apocalypse when production was impossible.

And she had a use for it too.

The canteen was on the 5th floor. The backup rice, flour, and oil hadn’t been soaked yet, and there was a lot of it. After all, it was a large factory. The storm had only lasted for five days, so there were also a lot of vegetables. Although the leafy greens were mostly wilted, the potatoes and onions were fine.

There were also several boxes of fruit, although they were just ordinary apples and oranges.

There were three refrigerators alone, all without power. But the power had been cut when they were collecting the generators in the power room, so they wouldn’t have gone bad in such a short time.

The freezers were full of chicken, duck, fish, ribs, and pork, all frozen in bags. The refrigerators were also full. One was even filled with yogurt and juice, hundreds of them at a glance.

Probably for the workers’ lunch the next day.

Tsk! This feed mill has good food.

But now it was all hers. Alright, Song Xun was in a good mood. She would take it back for her two little cubs to drink.

Shi Tou and Chang Fei were at the front, gathering pots, pans, and other scattered items into a pile, and Song Xun was responsible for collecting them from behind.

The tables and chairs in the canteen were also in good condition, not fixed, and convenient. She collected a lot of those too.

By the time they were basically done, it was 5:07 AM.

They had done a rough search, not looking too closely at the rest.

They didn’t have time to waste. It was too late. They could only collect as much as they could from the nearby area.

As they left, the water was still shallow, so they couldn’t use the assault boat. To save time, the three of them ran.

They ran to the courier transit station, which was also the main station for this area.

It covered a large area, comparable to the feed mill. The iron gate was locked, and the water level hadn’t reached their knees yet.

The three of them broke down the door. Shi Tou and Chang Fei ran inside, but Song Xun didn’t go in first. She collected several large trucks outside.

The water had only just covered two-thirds of the tires, so these were still unflooded vehicles. She specifically chose the ones that were loaded.

The ones with things covered on top were obvious, and stood out from the empty ones. They had probably just been brought back and hadn’t been unloaded yet, or were about to be sent out but couldn’t be.

She collected five trucks in total.

It was clear that this courier station was a large-scale operation.

There was nothing else to collect in the yard, so Song Xun went inside. The first floor was the main hall, the office, and such. She went up. The second floor was the warehouse or shipping area.

A quick glance, and the area was indeed large. There were densely packed packages everywhere, some sorted, some not, covering the floor.

Some were even left on the conveyor belt, looking a bit messy. The storm had probably come too suddenly, and the employees were in a hurry to go home, so no one had bothered.

Shi Tou and Chang Fei, with their headlamps on, were busy among them, piling things up for Song Xun’s convenience.

Song Xun casually picked up a package. It was soft inside, and she didn’t know what it was. Could it be clothes?

Alright, she was just being nosy.

With a slight effort, she tore it open and found… lingerie. The very hot and bold kind.

Song Xun: “…”

She was momentarily stunned, her ears turning red.

But in the darkness, no one could see. She looked up. Chang Fei and Shi Tou were still busy, and they were far away.

She was about to throw it away, like a hot potato.

But for some reason, at the moment she was about to throw it, she instinctively tightened her grip and, with her eyes closed, threw it into her space.

Ahem! I’ll keep it for now. It might be useful.

The three of them were busy collecting, collecting, collecting, not caring if it was useful or not. In short, they would collect it first. Time was tight, and they couldn’t go anywhere else. After this, they had to rush back to the complex.

Otherwise, it would be too late.

By the time they had basically collected all the packages, and even gone upstairs and found the generator and backup oil barrels in a corner, it was almost 7 AM.

The upstairs was probably the employees’ office space. It was mostly desks and chairs, with a lot of files and documents on them.

Worse than blank paper, completely useless.

The breakroom was somewhat useful. At least there were a lot of snacks, like small breads, melon seeds, and nuts, the kind you often see at work. They even found several tubs of instant noodles and sausages.

No politeness, she took it all.

The canteen. There was a lot of rice, flour, and oil, but the vegetables and meat weren’t as fresh as at the feed mill, nor were there as many. The generator wasn’t on, but the freezer had been kept closed, so the things inside were still okay.

At least they were still mostly frozen solid and hadn’t gone bad.

But the things in the refrigerator weren’t so good. Without power, it wasn’t cooling, and the vegetables and fruits inside were basically inedible. Mainly, they didn’t dare to eat them.

There were cigarettes, coffee, and tea, but no alcohol.

In short, anything edible or drinkable, as long as it wasn’t soaked, was taken.

After a rough tour, at 7:20 AM, the three of them went downstairs and left.

At 7:30 AM, after running a sufficient distance, Song Xun took out the assault boat. Chang Fei was still at the helm, and they headed back.

At 7:40 AM, a light rain started to fall again.

As time went on, the rain grew heavier. Although it hadn’t reached the level of a torrential downpour, the three of them felt increasingly uneasy.

“A’Fei, can you go any faster?”

Chang Fei frowned. “This is already the maximum speed.”

7:53 AM.

The rain was so heavy it blurred their vision, but fortunately, they had rushed back to the complex.

The sound of the motor was loud, but it was muffled by the increasingly heavy rain. To be safe, as they approached the complex, Song Xun switched to an inflatable rubber boat.

The assault boat was not suitable for exposure. She was sure that someone was waiting for them at a window at this time.

Third floor.

There were indeed a lot of people at the window they had broken on their way down. Seeing someone approach, they all crowded forward.

The three of them, wearing waterproof backpacks, paddled the rubber boat closer. Song Xun got in first. She was holding her blade, and the meter-long blade looked intimidating.

Not to mention her own cold, indifferent nature. Her eyes were truly cold, like a blood-stained knife, even with a hint of bloodlust.

It was intimidating. Afraid that she would swing her blade at them, the people by the window instinctively retreated, giving them some space.

Chang Fei and Shi Tou followed. With the rain, the water level had gradually risen and was now getting closer to the 3rd floor. The reduced distance made it easier to deflate the rubber boat.

The people nearby wanted to get closer, but one look at Song Xun, and then at the blade, well, they had the thought, but who dared?

An older woman bravely approached. “Young lady, you went out, did you find any food? Can you spare some for me? I can buy it from you with money, or you can lend me this boat.”

She didn’t seem to know what a rubber boat was called, but Song Xun didn’t care. Her eyes swept over her, a cold glance, and the woman was so scared she took two steps back. Then, as if angry, although she had moved away, she was still muttering.

“You little girl, how can you be so rude? Don’t you know what it means to respect the old and love the young? You…”

Song Xun, impatient, glared at her and raised her blade, and the woman didn’t dare to say another word.

Shi Tou and Chang Fei deflated the rubber boat and carried it. The three of them, with their backpacks on, walked upstairs without a word, ignoring the greedy, complex, or fearful gazes of the crowd.

The blade was a bit long and scraped against the stairs with a “thwack,” leaving a mark on the steps with a casual touch.

Well, now they really didn’t dare to go up.

Suddenly, a disheveled female Omega rushed up. She seemed to know that Song Xun was the leader of the three and went straight to hug her.

She immediately dodged, her cold eyes now narrowed tightly.

The female Omega didn’t look old and was quite attractive. Seeing Song Xun dodge, she tried to hug her again, crying.

“Sister, please, can you give me some food? I, I can go with you. It’s my first time. I can do anything you want…”

Song Xun: “…”

Her hair immediately stood on end.
