41. The Big Scammer and the Little Scammer
A cultivator who hadn’t even reached the Heavenly Soul realm, Feng Lili was initially surprised. But after regaining her composure, she was confident.
If she couldn’t even handle such a “minnow,” then her title of Ghost Physician would be a joke.
And the next day, Feng Lili was as good as her word.
“The things I needed to do are done. You don’t need to worry about that guy’s life or death.”
Feng Lili called them over early in the morning and said, almost in a command, “Now, all of you, leave.”
“Lili is kicking us out just like that? So heartless.” Gong Musheng, although she knew this woman wouldn’t let them stay long, didn’t expect it to be so soon.
“Old friends reunited, after all.”
She struck a very alluring pose, a stark contrast to her earlier calm and collected demeanor.
“If you’re so heartless, no man will want you.”
“I spit on that!” Feng Lili’s face was about to crack.
She had met many people, but this one was constantly pushing her buttons, making her want to tear her mouth off.
“Gong Musheng, can you stop disgusting me?”
“I’m doing this for your own good.” Gong Musheng shrugged helplessly. “As your few friends, this is what I should do.”
Feng Lili was so angry she was about to breathe fire. She finally gave them an ultimatum. “…All of you, get out now!”
It wasn’t until she was back in her room, packing her things, that Gong Yiling began to wonder. “Little Auntie, why did you provoke that woman?”
“Of course I wasn’t just bored.” Gong Musheng leaned against the door, watching her pack with interest.
She had brought a lot of things, but she herself had no intention of packing.
“Then you are…?”
“That girl is simple-minded when she’s angry. You can pack slowly.” Gong Musheng smiled. “I have my own arrangements.”
This Little Auntie always seemed to have everything under control. If only her mother could learn a thing or two from her.
These two sisters were truly different in every way.
“But…” Gong Musheng was still a bit puzzled. “Why would she want to kick us out so quickly? Given our relationship… it doesn’t make sense.”
Gong Yiling couldn’t help but twitch her lips.
Was this woman a bit too confident in herself? She had never seen how good their relationship was.
However…
This matter was actually caused by her. It had nothing to do with Gong Musheng.
“Um… I think she kicked us out so quickly because of the strange thing that happened to me yesterday.”
“Strange thing?” Gong Musheng’s interest was piqued. She immediately came over and sat opposite her. “I love hearing about strange things. Come on, tell me.”
The things that happened last night, there was no harm in telling Gong Musheng. She even wanted to hear her opinion.
“Basically, it’s like this…”
And so, the two who were supposed to be packing had no intention of leaving—including Yan Chuyue. She was originally going to pack, but when she passed by Gong Yiling’s room and found the two telling stories, she just put all her things on the ground and listened at the door.
Gong Yiling explained the illusionary scene in detail, without leaving anything out.
Of course, the whole story only took a few minutes.
Gong Musheng, after listening, frowned and thought for a long time before saying, “Do you think what you saw was just an illusion or a memory of the past?”
“It should be a memory.” Gong Yiling said, “Before Senior Feng came looking for us this morning, I specifically went to the scene of the illusion to check.”
Whether this story was a memory or something else, Gong Yiling was more inclined to believe it was a memory, so she went to confirm it beforehand.
How did she confirm it? Naturally, by investigating the scene for clues.
Although a long time had passed, the damage to the houses caused by the storm was still there.
Gong Yiling did indeed see marks on the walls of the same street, marks that were clearly caused by a storm.
This alone was enough to confirm that this was the past, not a story.
“If it’s a memory…” Gong Musheng mused, “When I was setting up the illusion for these villagers, I did hear a child call me a demoness.”
“But at that time, I just showed them some natural phenomena in the illusion, like summoning wind and rain.”
Summoning wind and rain… wind?
That’s right.
The so-called demoness, her only ability was probably to summon a gloomy wind. This wind… must have caused PTSD in these villagers and influenced generations to come.
Thus, everything made sense.
“This is getting interesting.” Gong Musheng stroked her chin and muttered, “I originally thought this Hundred Ghosts Ridge had little to do with this village, but now it seems… some things have been buried in the past.”
“But…” Gong Yiling shrugged helplessly. “It seems there’s no chance to learn more about what happened back then.”
She had also tried to communicate with those resentful spirits later, but although the resentment was still there, it was just resentment.
This resentment no longer communicated with her, nor did it affect her cultivation. It just made her feel a bit uncomfortable.
“Don’t worry.”
Gong Musheng smiled. “It doesn’t matter if the things are with her. A good merchant, what can’t she get her hands on?”
So you two are really enemies, right? Definitely not friends!
What kind of friend would scam a friend like this?
But come to think of it, this Little Auntie had taken nearly hundreds of millions of silver from her, and probably also scammed her own mother out of a lot of money.
Was this the legendary “killing the familiar”?
It seemed she should stay a little further away from this woman in the future.
Just then…
Someone rushed in from the door. He looked at Yan Chuyue, who was eavesdropping at the door, with confusion, thinking she was a lookout, and asked her for permission.
“Go in, go in.”
Yan Chuyue, pretending she had just arrived, led the guard in.
“I just came here and saw him looking for you. He probably has something to say.”
Hearing Yan Chuyue’s words, Gong Yiling, who was in the middle of a conversation, was taken aback, then her eyes lit up, and she looked at Gong Musheng with interest.
“Could it be?”
Had Little Auntie’s prediction come true again?
“Let’s go.” Gong Musheng stood up and smiled. “We have something to do.”
