Chapter 19: Self-Blame. The amnesia is only temporary.
It was rush hour, and the hospital seemed even more crowded than during the day.
Cheng Yang’s ears were filled with a cacophony of noise.
It wasn’t just Xu Xun who saw Ye Bingying; Cheng Yang recognized her too.
She was standing at the entrance of the emergency room. After her eyes met Xu Xun’s, she curved her eyes into a smile.
All three of them were wearing masks, their faces and hair tightly covered.
Xu Xun didn’t have time to worry about that. She pushed the wheelchair straight past Ye Bingying and quickened her pace towards the triage desk.
Ye Bingying followed closely behind. Not long after Xu Xun had taken Cheng Yang away, she had realized something was wrong.
She was in the industry; any little rumor or movement wouldn’t escape her eyes.
As the saying goes, there’s no smoke without fire.
Ye Bingying had never heard of Cheng Yang and Xu Xun getting married. On the contrary, she had heard news of Cheng Yang’s engagement not long ago.
Her fiancée was the eldest daughter of the Su family. How could she be involved with Xu Xun?
Ye Bingying couldn’t figure it out.
Based on Cheng Yang’s reaction to her, Ye Bingying guessed that she must have hit her head in the car accident and developed amnesia.
A pang of pain shot through the back of Cheng Yang’s head from time to time. She didn’t endure it but whimpered softly to show her discomfort.
Of course, Xu Xun heard Cheng Yang’s voice too.
The sound was like a coquettish complaint, soft and with a hint of petulance.
Xu Xun’s heart melted.
But her attention was still on Ye Bingying behind her.
This Omega was like an annoying fly that she couldn’t swat away.
After Dongdong finished registering, Xu Xun sat on a chair to the side, accompanying Cheng Yang.
Cheng Yang’s gaze occasionally flickered towards Ye Bingying not far away.
“Wifey, why is that person so annoying?”
Xu Xun held Cheng Yang’s wrist and gently pressed it against her own cheek.
She curved her lips, her eyes crinkling.
“Don’t mind her. Just close your eyes and clear your mind for a while. Maybe it won’t hurt so much then.”
Cheng Yang obediently listened.
After a while, Cheng Yang’s number was called.
Xu Xun pushed her over. Before entering the consultation room, she called Dongdong over and had her push the wheelchair in.
Cheng Yang gripped Xu Xun’s wrist, refusing to let go, and looked at her with pleading eyes.
“Wifey, where are you going? Don’t you want me anymore?”
Her voice was soft, with a hint of alluring hoarseness.
It was a plea, or perhaps a reluctance to part.
Xu Xun’s breath caught, and her scalp tingled.
She lowered her voice, trying to speak as normally as possible.
“Be good, Yangyang. Didn’t you say you didn’t like that person just now? I’m going to go and get rid of her now.”
Xu Xun squatted in front of Cheng Yang and gently pinched the Alpha’s earlobe.
“You have to be good. Listen to the doctor when you go in and cooperate.”
Cheng Yang took off her mask and smiled at Xu Xun. “Wifey, I’m just sick. I haven’t regressed into a three-year-old. When you talk to me in that tone, it makes me feel quite embarrassed.”
Xu Xun and Dongdong exchanged a smile.
After watching Cheng Yang enter the consultation room in the wheelchair, the gentleness in Xu Xun’s eyes instantly vanished, replaced by a frosty coldness.
She turned her head, her gaze falling on Ye Bingying, who was standing in the corner not far away.
As soon as Xu Xun walked over, Ye Bingying asked impatiently, “What’s going on with you two? Why did Yangyang call you wifey? Are you married?”
The series of questions was well within Xu Xun’s expectations.
She curved her lips and raised an eyebrow at Ye Bingying.
“You have a lot of questions. But I can tell you, we are indeed together.”
Ye Bingying’s eyes widened. Although it was expected, she still couldn’t believe that these two would be together.
Could it be that they developed feelings from acting in their last movie?
Ye Bingying gritted her teeth. She had imagined countless possibilities for Cheng Yang’s marriage partner, but she had never thought it would be Xu Xun.
Xu Xun had no family background. She wasn’t like Cheng Yang, who had landed a role in a movie tailor-made for her by a famous director right after her debut.
On the contrary, Xu Xun had started out as an extra and a supporting actress, struggling in the entertainment industry for several years before she finally made a name for herself.
She felt that Xu Xun was not worthy of Cheng Yang at all.
Their statuses and social classes were worlds apart. Xu Xun was simply not worthy!
After saying this, Xu Xun turned to leave but was stopped by Ye Bingying.
“Wait!”
“Is there anything else?”
Xu Xun turned back. She met Ye Bingying’s complicated gaze and found that the other was hesitating.
Ye Bingying gritted her teeth. “I don’t know what tricks you used, but Yangyang has amnesia. You’d better not pull any stunts.”
The moment these words were spoken, Xu Xun couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
“And what’s your identity? Don’t you think you sound ridiculous saying something like that?”
Ye Bingying was completely choked by these words.
“I know you were once classmates, but even the friendship of a classmate is nothing more than an outsider to me.”
The corners of Xu Xun’s lips curved, but there was not a trace of a smile in her eyes.
“I am Cheng Yang’s lover. As for you, you’re nothing. What right do you have to lecture me here?”
“You!”
Ye Bingying was so angry at the Omega before her that her heart ached.
She didn’t know Xu Xun well and had never worked with her. She had only heard from others that she had a relatively gentle personality, was usually well-behaved, didn’t create hype, and had no scandals.
But now, who was this glib-tongued Omega who could render her speechless with just a few words?
Xu Xun sighed. “You waited for me here today just to get an answer, right?”
“Then I can tell you for sure, she and I are already together. You’d better put away your crooked thoughts, and don’t forget what you once did to her.”
After saying this, Xu Xun turned and walked away.
She stood outside the consultation room, looking at the scene inside through the open door.
Ye Bingying also knew that she looked like a buffoon right now, and she had no face to stay in the hospital.
From the corner of her eye, Xu Xun noticed that Ye Bingying had left. She nonchalantly breathed a sigh of relief and continued to wait anxiously outside.
About five minutes later, Director Zheng pulled back the privacy curtain.
Xu Xun walked in and asked eagerly, “Director Zheng, is my wife alright?”
Director Zheng disinfected both her hands with alcohol. “It’s nothing serious, just a slight tearing of the stitched wound. Your wife said she bumped it by accident just now. You still need to be very careful.”
“This wound was just about to heal. This bump will make it have to grow back again. It’ll probably take another week or two to heal properly.”
Cheng Yang had a new bandage on her head. She sat obediently in the wheelchair, not daring to look up at Xu Xun’s eyes.
Xu Xun first thanked Director Zheng, then pushed the wheelchair out of the consultation room.
“Wifey, it’s time to go home.”
Cheng Yang’s voice was small because she could see from Xu Xun’s face that she was blaming herself again.
In fact, it was just a small matter, but Cheng Yang understood that Xu Xun was too scared.
Perhaps it was because of the previous car accident that Xu Xun had been frightened, so even the slightest mishap at home made Xu Xun feel like the sky was falling.
Cheng Yang knew that Xu Xun loved her and was worried about her, but it couldn’t go on like this. Over time, both of them would develop psychological problems.
In the car, Cheng Yang’s rusty brain finally came up with something to cheer Xu Xun up.
“Wifey, Director Zheng praised my good constitution just now and said I’m recovering very well.”
As she spoke, Cheng Yang even deliberately raised her arm to show that she was very strong now.
A faint smile finally appeared on Xu Xun’s lips.
“That’s good.”
Xu Xun pressed her forehead against Cheng Yang’s and murmured, “Do you know how scared I was? I don’t want you to get hurt again.”
“Not even a little bit.”
Cheng Yang also wrapped her arms around Xu Xun’s waist, and they hugged each other intimately.
She wanted to make Xu Xun happier.
Cheng Yang said cheerfully, “By the way, Director Zheng also said that my amnesia is only temporary. She told me not to worry, and that I’ll be able to recover my memory soon.”
Hmm
