Chapter 7: Resignation
Unfortunately, the boss wasn’t buying it. “Xiaoxia, I told you, if there’s anything wrong, you can tell me. What’s the urgent family matter?”
Liu Chuxia really didn’t want to continue this conversation. The office air conditioning was on, and she was still carrying the True Cold Talisman. She had been sitting here for so long that she was shivering from the cold. She rubbed her arms and said, “Boss, the truth is, I have to go home and inherit the family business. My mom told me to resign. I’m sorry, boss. Thank you for your guidance. Please accept this resignation letter.”
The boss was instantly rendered speechless. He silently sipped the tea in his cup. After about two minutes, he finally spoke, “Sigh… are you really going home to inherit the family business? You’re not pulling my leg?”
“It’s the absolute truth, boss. If you don’t believe me, I can have my mom give you a call,” Liu Chuxia said. Sensing her boss wavering, she almost jumped up in excitement. It was finally over.
The boss had no choice. How could he stop someone who was going to inherit a family business? He sighed and took the resignation letter. “Go on, go on. I’ll take care of the resignation process for you. Remember to come back and visit an old man like me in the future.”
“You got it! You’re not old at all, boss. I’ll be going then. Don’t worry, I’ll definitely come visit you during the holidays.” After saying that, Liu Chuxia bolted.
“This girl, haha.”
The moment Liu Chuxia stepped out of the building, she was hit by a wave of heat. The True Cold Talisman automatically enhanced its effect. Once she felt the temperature stabilize, Liu Chuxia set off to hail a taxi back to the bookstore.

“Big Sister Chuxia! You’re back! How did it go? Did your boss give you a hard time?” The moment Xiao Xu saw the main door open, she rushed over to shower her with concern.
Liu Chuxia hadn’t even stepped inside yet and was so startled she almost kicked Xiao Xu out. Fortunately, she managed to stop her foot. “Xiao Xu! Can you please not appear in front of me so suddenly? It’s really scary, you know? I almost kicked you just now!”
It was rare for Liu Chuxia to be so serious. Xiao Xu quickly lowered her head and apologized.
“Big Sister Chuxia, I’m sorry. I was just too excited. I’m sorry, I was wrong.” She looked up at Liu Chuxia with teary eyes.
“Sigh… it’s fine now. I was just startled and lost control of my emotions. Just remember not to appear in front of me so suddenly in the future, okay?” Liu Chuxia softened her tone and patted Xiao Xu’s head reassuringly. It was a little cold.
Xiao Xu nodded obediently. “Big Sister Chuxia, there’s one more thing I need to apologize for. I took it upon myself to block your phone. I’m sorry.”
Liu Chuxia had actually forgotten about that. After all, she had spent a full two hours with her boss and had been thoroughly tormented. Besides, she had only briefly mentioned the situation to Li Hanyan that morning. Could that person have scolded Xiao Xu? A wave of guilt washed over her.
She looked at Xiao Xu with a guilty expression and said, “It’s okay. You didn’t get scolded by Hanyan, did you? There’s no need to be so serious about such a small thing. Sometimes you have to be a little flexible.”
Xiao Xu blinked her eyes and nodded her little head. Anyway, all she had to do was listen to Big Sister Chuxia. Whatever Big Sister Chuxia said, went.
“Where’s Hanyan?” After dealing with the little one’s problem, Liu Chuxia turned to look at the main hall.
On both sides, there were only a few customers reading books and drinking coffee. She wondered if she was upstairs.
“Big Sister Hanyan? She’s organizing materials. She has to go help that ugly man with his ghost problem tonight.” When Xiao Xu mentioned Wang Yang, a look of extreme disgust appeared on her face.
Liu Chuxia felt that something was amiss. “What’s wrong? What happened while I was gone?”
“Let me tell you…” Xiao Xu recounted the morning’s events, fighting back her nausea.
“What kind of weirdo is he? He wants to pursue me? Hah! He wishes! In his dreams!”
Liu Chuxia had never imagined that man could be so disgusting. Her first impression of him was already bad, and now she found him utterly repulsive.
Xiao Xu punched and kicked the air in anger. “If I could hit him, he’d probably be lying in a hospital right now. Hmph, I really want to beat up every weirdo like him I see.”
Li Hanyan came down from upstairs just in time to hear this. She responded with a smile, “Then would he have to come find me for another exorcism?”
“Big Sister Hanyan? So should I hit him or not?” Xiao Xu became unsure after hearing Li Hanyan’s words. If she hit him, Big Sister Hanyan would have to help that ugly man. If she didn’t, she would be fuming with anger.
“Don’t tease her. Xiao Xu, don’t listen to her. Don’t you think Hanyan would ever hit you? She’d definitely join you in beating up that weirdo. Right, Hanyan?”
Li Hanyan just smiled without saying a word. Xiao Xu, on the other hand, cautiously tugged on Liu Chuxia’s sleeve and whispered in her ear, “Big Sister Chuxia, Big Sister Hanyan really would hit me. And it hurts a lot.”
“What? Why would she hit you? When did this happen? Tell me.” After speaking, Liu Chuxia turned to look at Li Hanyan, questioning her with her eyes.
Xiao Xu stammered for a long time, unable to speak, and kept glancing at Li Hanyan, looking just like a child who had done something wrong.
“Don’t look at me like that.” She paused, then looked at Xiao Xu and continued, “She was greedy for yin energy before and ended up absorbing too much, which caused her to lose control. Guess how long it took me to save her? A whole day and night. Hah, and she still has the nerve to complain.”
Xiao Xu grew anxious. “I’m not complaining. I’m just telling the truth. I didn’t mean to hide it from Big Sister Chuxia…”
“So, does Xiao Xu think she was right?” Liu Chuxia wasn’t angry. She just thought that it was natural for a child to want some attention. Besides, she had said it in front of Li Hanyan, so she must have really been hurt when she was hit.
Xiao Xu shook her head. She knew she was wrong, but it really did hurt a lot back then.
—
The night wind blew through the treetops, causing the green leaves to sway gently and a few withered leaves to fall. The chirping of insects in the green belt seemed a bit noisy in the quiet night. The stars in the sky illuminated the darkness.
The four of them walked on the dark road, relying on the light from their phones to move forward. The night wind blew from time to time, and the timid Liu Chuxia leaned closer to Li Hanyan.
Wang Yang was leading the way. As they were about to arrive, he stopped abruptly. “We’re here. It’s that stretch of road up ahead.” Although he tried to keep his voice steady, a tremor could still be heard.
Xiao Xu glanced back at Liu Chuxia, waiting for her instructions.
Li Hanyan explained to her, “Xiao Xu is waiting for your command. Her mind becomes a bit inflexible when she’s on a mission. I’ll tell you the reason later. Right now, she needs some instructions from you, for example, telling her to investigate the middle part of that road.”
Although Liu Chuxia was very curious, since Li Hanyan said she would tell her later, she didn’t press the matter. She repeated the sentence Li Hanyan had said to Xiao Xu.
Upon receiving the instruction, Xiao Xu immediately turned and walked towards the middle of the road. As she walked, she sensed the changes around her. Suddenly, her eyes glowed green as she looked at the broken lamppost.
Liu Chuxia quickly covered her face and hid in Li Hanyan’s embrace. Xiao Xu looked too scary; she didn’t dare to look any longer.
As for Wang Yang, he was so scared he fell to the ground. He wanted to scream, but no sound came out. He wanted to run, but his legs were too weak to stand. He could only slowly scoot backwards. He had almost peed his pants in fear. How did a perfectly normal person suddenly have glowing green eyes?
