Chapter 27: Han Yu
“Xiao Xu, we’ll talk about your matter later. First, tell us what happened with Xiao Nian,” Liu Chuxia said, looking at Xiao Xu.
Xiao Xu turned around and, with a slightly embarrassed glance at Liu Chuxia, began to speak, “This afternoon, a man suddenly came looking for Big Sister Xiao Nian. Big Sister Xiao Nian seemed to know him and even spoke with him alone. After they came out, I saw the man leave very happily, but Big Sister Xiao Nian’s expression was very bad. Not long after the man left, Big Sister Xiao Nian suddenly went berserk and started attacking indiscriminately. I was going to stop her to save the customers.”
“Unexpectedly, the more she fought, the crazier she became. Ke Yan even blocked a blow for me. After that, it was what you saw.” After speaking, Xiao Xu turned back to check if Ke Yan was still uncomfortable anywhere.
“Hey? Xiao Xu, come here. Ke Yan is still weak. Let her rest for a bit. First, tell us what that man looked like,” Jiang Jiajia called out to Xiao Xu.
Xiao Xu reluctantly walked over. “That man had a very ordinary appearance. He was a bit sturdy but looked scholarly. He wore a pair of rimless glasses, a black suit, and held a fan in his hand. Oh! Right! The fan had the character ‘Xiao’ written on it. Could he be from the Xiao family?” Xiao Xu said in surprise.
Jiang Jiajia frowned and confirmed, “It’s the second son of the Xiao family, Xiao Shuming. It seems it was because of me. This Xiao Shuming has been chasing after me since he was a child, saying he would marry me when we grew up. And indeed, to this day, I don’t know how many times I’ve rejected his marriage proposals.”
Liu Chuxia felt that this kind of person was really troublesome. Then she heard Jiang Jiajia continue, “And this Xiao Shuming has been bullying Xiao Nian since they were children. He even gathered others in the Xiao family to bully her together. They knew not to use physical violence, just verbal stimulation. Xiao Nian listened to these things for a full ten years. If not for my father appreciating her talent and taking her in as a disciple, I don’t know how long she could have lasted.”
Liu Chuxia was so angry she laughed. “When are we going to beat him up? Put a sack over his head, burn an Itching Talisman inside, then kick him hard. And have someone do it to her three times a week.”
Jiang Jiajia looked at her and shook her head. “Let’s not talk about that now. I’ll go see if Xiao Nian has fainted. If she has, we’ll carry her here.”
“Are her injuries okay? They looked quite serious to me.”
“Getting injured is a common occurrence for Spirit Masters. This is even the result of Hanyan holding back. Anyway, she won’t die,” Jiang Jiajia said as she walked.
The two of them walked up to Xiao Nian. Jiang Jiajia patted her lightly and, seeing no movement, asked Liu Chuxia to help carry her. Together, they carried her to the sofa on the left side of the main hall.
Liu Chuxia looked at Xiao Nian’s blood-covered face, not knowing what to say. The smell of blood was strong when she was carrying her just now. Liu Chuxia guessed that there might be much more blood than she had imagined. And because Xiao Nian was wearing black clothes, it looked like she hadn’t bled much. Liu Chuxia was really afraid she would lose too much blood.
“Aren’t you afraid she’ll lose too much blood?” Liu Chuxia voiced her concern.
“Don’t worry, Hanyan knows her limits. If you’re going to worry, you should be worrying about Hanyan.”
Only then did Liu Chuxia remember Li Hanyan, who was still sitting at the front counter. She quickly turned and ran over. With so much going on, she had forgotten.
She walked up to Li Hanyan with a guilty face, knelt in front of her, and said, “Hanyan? Shall we go upstairs and sleep?”
Li Hanyan opened her drowsy eyes, looked at her, and smiled weakly. “Okay. Can A Xia carry me?”
Liu Chuxia looked at her pale lips, feeling even more guilty. She quickly stood up and said, “I can, but won’t that open up your wounds? Why don’t I just move a sofa over? You sit here first.”
Before Li Hanyan could stop her, Liu Chuxia had already run off. In a short while, she came back with Jiang Jiajia and Xiao Xu, carrying a sofa. Together, they moved her onto it.
“I should go and call Dr. Han over,” Jiang Jiajia said, taking out her phone and walking out.
Xiao Xu also said, “I’ll go and keep Ke Yan company. You should be able to handle things here, Big Sister Chuxia, right?”
Liu Chuxia nodded. Xiao Xu glanced at Li Hanyan and left.
“Hanyan, are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere? Did I bandage it too tightly?” Liu Chuxia asked, kneeling by the sofa.
Li Hanyan shook her head. She was used to being injured and bleeding. These injuries were not enough to make her die of pain.
Seeing her weak state, Liu Chuxia didn’t say any more and just stayed by her side, occasionally moistening her lips with warm water.
In a short while, a woman in casual clothes carrying a medical kit entered the bookstore. Jiang Jiajia quickly led her to Li Hanyan.
Liu Chuxia quickly stood up and made way for her. She knew this must be the Dr. Han that Jiajia had mentioned.
Han Yu nodded at Liu Chuxia, put the medical kit aside, opened it, and took out a pair of medical gloves and a mask. She briefly examined Li Hanyan, then Xiao Nian. Xiao Xu also wanted her to check on Ke Yan, but then she remembered that Dr. Han didn’t seem to treat ghosts, so she dismissed the thought.
“I need a relatively clean small room and a spacious large room,” Han Yu said calmly.
Her voice had a cool and detached quality, sounding like a mature and sophisticated woman’s voice with a hint of magnetism. But Liu Chuxia was in no mood to appreciate it now. She was worried about Li Hanyan, afraid that something might suddenly happen to her.
Xiao Xu quickly went to prepare the rooms. She was the most familiar with the place.
Han Yu looked at Liu Chuxia and asked, “You’re the daughter that A Chu treasures so much?”
Liu Chuxia frowned. She felt that this person’s tone was not friendly at all, but she still nodded politely.
Han Yu turned her head and muttered to herself, “She really looks like that woman. Could it be that what A Chu said was all true?”
Liu Chuxia could roughly guess what she was talking about. She also wanted to know if she really looked that much like her mommy.
Xiao Xu said the rooms were ready, so Han Yu went upstairs. Liu Chuxia, Jiang Jiajia, and Xiao Xu first carried Li Hanyan up, then Xiao Nian.
After they were done, the two humans and one ghost sat outside and waited.
“Xiao Xu, how is Ke Yan?” Liu Chuxia asked.
“She’s fine now. Thank you, Big Sister Chuxia and Big Sister Jiajia. If you hadn’t saved her in time, her soul would probably have scattered.” Speaking of which, Xiao Xu was almost scared to death when she checked on her at the time. But she couldn’t cry, so she could only feel sad inside.
Liu Chuxia nodded and comforted her, “It’s good that she’s fine. So what do you plan to do with her? You two are developing quite quickly.”
Xiao Xu stammered, turned her face away in embarrassment, and said in a muffled voice, “I haven’t accepted her yet, and I can’t. I can’t affect her reincarnation.”
Jiang Jiajia sighed and patted Xiao Xu’s shoulder. “Don’t you know that her obsession will change if you do this? All your previous efforts will be in vain.”
Liu Chuxia looked at Jiang Jiajia in surprise. “Obsessions can change?”
“Yes. If Xiao Xu does this, the female ghost will never be able to go to the underworld. She will be thinking about Xiao Xu. Even if she goes to the underworld, the ghost messengers will have a hard time taking her. Even if she is forced to drink Meng Po’s soup, there might still be problems,” Jiang Jiajia explained.
