22. Breakthrough
Zuo Wuyi had originally wanted to wait here for Mo Xiao to return, but she started to get sleepy as she sat. For the past few days, while Mo Xiao was still unconscious, she had basically stayed by her bedside without closing her eyes. Now that she had relaxed, the accumulated fatigue instantly surged forth.
Sleeping on the table was too uncomfortable. Zuo Wuyi yawned, and with the last of her willpower, she took off her shoes and outer robe, then flopped onto Mo Xiao’s bed, rolled around a few times, and closed her eyes.
After an unknown amount of time, Zuo Wuyi felt a little hot. She subconsciously kicked her legs, trying to get away from the heat source. But as soon as she exerted force, she found that she had kicked an obstacle. That obstacle also seemed to have trapped her leg, making it impossible for her to move.
“Go… go away…” Zuo Wuyi murmured, kicking out with her other leg in the same direction. Soon, Zuo Wuyi found that both of her legs had lost their freedom, which made her feel very insecure. She slowly woke up from her sleep.
As soon as she opened her eyes, Zuo Wuyi saw her two legs, and then, as her gaze shifted slightly upwards, she saw Mo Xiao’s two hands.
“Why are you holding my legs? Are you trying to take advantage of me while I’m sleeping?” Seeing her ankles being held by Mo Xiao’s hands, Zuo Wuyi subconsciously tried to pull her feet back.
“…” Mo Xiao hadn’t expected Zuo Wuyi’s first words to be something like this. To prove her innocence, Mo Xiao quickly let go, allowing Zuo Wuyi to retract her legs and sit up on the bed with a roll.
“Mo Xiao, I didn’t expect you to become this kind of person!” Zuo Wuyi pulled the quilt she had been hugging to her chest and said in an accusatory tone, “According to our current relationship, if you wanted it, you could have just said so. Why did you have to take advantage of my situation! This is not the act of a gentleman.”
Mo Xiao didn’t reply, just sat by the bed and quietly watched Zuo Wuyi’s one-woman show.
“Hey, why are you ignoring me?” If no one cooperated with her act, the fun would be reduced by ninety-nine percent.
“Am I not looking at you?” Mo Xiao said with a smile. “I wonder where Little Junior Sister got the idea that I wanted to take advantage of you?”
“If you didn’t want to do this and that to me, why were you holding my ankles!” Zuo Wuyi said with conviction. “Could it be that you like my feet, so you wanted to admire them up close?”
The smile on Mo Xiao’s face did not change. “So many years have passed, you should have grown up. Why do I feel that you’ve become more and more childish instead?”
“What’s wrong? Can’t I say these things just because I’ve grown up?” Zuo Wuyi snorted lightly. “If everyone’s lifespan is a thousand years, then at sixteen, what am I if not a child?”
“Alright, you’re right. I was wrong.” When it came to pestering and making unreasonable arguments, Mo Xiao was no match for Zuo Wuyi.
She let her be unreasonable for a few sentences. Seeing that Zuo Wuyi’s eyes were completely awake, Mo Xiao began to talk about serious matters.
“Master has thought it through, huh? That’s perfect. I’ll go into seclusion to break through my cultivation,” With Mo Xiao accompanying her, it would be double the happiness.
“Master means that Eldest Senior Sister will also be traveling with us, to give you double insurance,” Mo Xiao emphasized this point. “You’ll have to remember to be more restrained in front of Eldest Senior Sister.”
“Eldest Senior Sister?” Zuo Wuyi moved the quilt away from her and drifted off in thought for a moment. Yun Yu is my Eldest Senior Sister this time. Then I have to help her, to prevent her from being schemed against. Zuo Wuyi quickly brought her thoughts back. Anyway, it was still early. Yun Yu’s incident should be more than thirty years later.
“Will Eldest Senior Sister be with us the whole time?” Zuo Wuyi asked.
“Perhaps. I can’t say for sure,” After thinking about the few sentences she had overheard, Mo Xiao was no longer certain. If Eldest Senior Sister really had those kinds of feelings for Master, she probably wouldn’t leave Master for too long.
The matter of traveling was set for after Zuo Wuyi formed her core. In order to go out sooner, Zuo Wuyi cultivated very diligently. Apart from insisting on taking a nap with Mo Xiao, she spent the rest of her time cultivating in her own immortal’s cave.
Mo Xiao consolidated her cultivation a little, then went to find the Sect Master, expressing her willingness to become an elder. After going through a simple process, she received a token.
“Take this token and inject a portion of your sword intent into it. You will then be able to freely enter and exit the barrier on the top floor of the library pavilion,” the Sect Master said, personally tying the token to Mo Xiao’s waist.
“Thank you, Sect Master,” Mo Xiao thanked him politely.
“No matter. If you have any questions about your cultivation, you can come and ask me anytime,” the Sect Master said with a smile.
Mo Xiao nodded, still thanking him politely. After exchanging a few pleasantries, she took her leave.
About three months later, Zuo Wuyi touched upon the opportunity to form a core and began to go into seclusion to break through. There was no lightning tribulation when breaking through to the Golden Core stage, and there was no danger along the way. So, after sensing that the aura on Zuo Wuyi’s body had begun to change towards the Golden Core stage, Mo Xiao went to visit Yun Yu.
“Eldest Senior Sister,” Mo Xiao stood politely in front of the immortal’s cave and greeted her.
Mo Xiao and Yun Yu’s relationship was not very close. When Mo Xiao had become Xuan Shuang’s disciple, Yun Yu was already at the Foundation Establishment stage. Come to think of it, Mo Xiao had only spent a very short time with Yun Yu. The rest of the time, she was either studying with her master, in seclusion, or traveling, so they rarely met.
“Junior Sister is here,” Yun Yu was practicing her sword in the courtyard. Seeing Mo Xiao arrive, she put her sword away. “Come in and talk.”
Mo Xiao hummed in agreement and walked in to sit with Yun Yu in the small pavilion by the courtyard. “Senior Sister, I came to discuss the time for our trip.”
Yun Yu nodded and lifted the teapot to pour some tea into the cup in front of Mo Xiao. “I heard Master mention this. Did Master say how long we will be traveling this time?”
Mo Xiao shook her head. “Master didn’t say, but we plan to head north. We might travel in the extreme cold lands of the north for a while before coming back.”
“Speaking of which, I once heard a rumor about the extreme cold lands,” Yun Yu picked up her teacup and blew on it. “It is said that there is an entrance to a secret realm near the center of the extreme cold lands. If you are lucky enough to find it, you will have the opportunity to obtain the inheritance of a Mahayana stage cultivator with an Ice spiritual root.”
“The inheritance of the extreme cold lands?” Mo Xiao’s brow furrowed slightly. “Senior Sister, when did this rumor start?”
“Hmm, I heard it about thirty years ago, but the rumor must have started much earlier than that. It might have been circulating for hundreds of years,” Yun Yu had really only heard of it and had not verified the authenticity of the rumor.
“Since our destination is the extreme cold lands, we can go and try our luck nearby,” Yun Yu said with a smile. “Isn’t Little Junior Sister an Ice spiritual root? If she can really obtain the inheritance of a Mahayana stage cultivator, that would be great.”
