“Kid.”
Li Erning sat on the turquoise plastic chair, the person in front of her recounting the same plan he had just discussed with Lu Nan.
It was full of holes at first listen—no, it was more like a sieve riddled with leaks.
“You’re calling this a rescue?” Li Erning hadn’t expected the entire Xia Family to be mentally off, and the Mo Family to be just as unhinged.
The two families had truly joined forces.
Mo Zhiting nodded, showing no displeasure at Li Erning’s doubts. Instead, he affirmed with utmost certainty—
“Yes. Don’t let the flaws in my plan fool you. Only something like this would convince Xia Yubing. I’ve known her for years and understand her personality. With her temperament, a plan full of holes like this is exactly what a real kidnapping would look like. This way, we can definitely rescue Xia Zhengyun.”
Li Erning’s ears were practically growing calluses from hearing this line.
“I don’t know if we can save her, but if you don’t start telling the truth, I’ll send you straight back to the Mo Family. Stop stirring up trouble here.”
Li Erning’s gaze shifted to the shadows behind him, where three figures emerged—likely Yin Hua and Song Wenwei bringing Lu Nan over, heading their way.
Her eyes snapped back, glaring fiercely at the man before her. If Lu Nan was missing an arm, she’d make him lose one to graft in its place.
“Too late.” Mo Zhiting spoke after a moment of silence.
The moment his voice fell, the sound of vehicle engines roared from the distance—not just one car, but several.
This was deep in the mountains and old forests, with winding, twisting roads. Who else would come here?
He smiled and bowed to Li Erning, his long shirt flapping in the wind. “I hear they all call you Second Sis. Perhaps I can address you as such.”
Mo Zhiting’s attitude was sincere, his tone earnest, as if he had a favor to ask.
Seeing him like this, Li Erning’s brows furrowed tightly, then relaxed after a moment.
Fair enough—this territory belonged to Xia Yubing. No matter how early they arrived, they couldn’t outpace her sources.
Li Erning pretended not to notice his pleading demeanor and pointed toward the distant car headlights. “The people coming for you are on the road. I’ll send you off to meet her.”
Mo Zhiting shook his head, standing straight before bowing to her again.
“Second Sis, I’d like to ask you to step in and help conceal my identity.”
His identity couldn’t be revealed to Xia Yubing too soon. If it was, his plan wouldn’t have a hundred percent chance of success.
Li Erning let out a cold laugh. “Sometimes, I really can’t figure you young people out. What kind of move is this?”
“One second you’re kidnapping my little sister, and I haven’t even settled the score with you. The next, you’re asking for my help. The Mo Family does things in such bizarre ways.”
Mo Zhiting pulled a tightly wrapped document from his pocket, shook it out, and handed it to her. “When asking for a favor, there must be give and take. I hear Second Sis is a businesswoman who values profit above all. This is a project currently under way in A City. Second Sis, take a look and see if it interests you.”
The contract was pushed right under her nose, but Li Erning didn’t even glance at it with her peripheral vision. Her eyes fixed on Mo Zhiting. “Above business comes humanity. The Mo Family’s child is also a businessman, raised on lessons of finance and favors from a young age. Trading one project for a person—you’re truly one for loyalty and righteousness.”
“If this project can save her, anything is on the table.”
The air fell silent for a moment. Mo Zhiting swallowed hard, but the contract remained extended steadily before Li Erning.
He had kidnapped their precious little sister, so partnering with them required sincerity. Truth be told, Mo Zhiting hadn’t expected Li Erning to bring so many people, let alone ones who could fight back so fiercely. Attacking head-on would be like eggs striking a rock—he’d suffer heavy losses.
Why not borrow her strength instead and clash directly with Xia Yubing?
Li Erning didn’t take it. By now, the three from afar had drawn near, just a few meters away.
She carefully inspected Lu Nan, noting that she walked without limping, her hand was still attached properly, and her feet were intact.
Only then did the fierce expression on her face soften somewhat, and she finally glanced at the contract.
“Put it down.” Li Erning spoke up, flicking her eyes to the right. The person beside her quickly stepped forward to take the document.
“Hand it to me.”
That person accepted the file and examined it meticulously, not missing a single detail.
It was at this point that Lu Nan reached her, panting heavily. Anxiously, she said, “Sis, people have come from outside—it’s Xia Yubing.”
“I know. Mo Zhiting already told me everything.” Li Erning nodded, stood up, and kicked the stool from under her toward Lu Nan. “Sit down. We’ll talk about the rest slowly.”
“Sis, he’s not trustworthy.” Lu Nan didn’t sit. Instead, she pulled the chair back and placed it in front of Yin Hua.
Yin Hua stared at the chair before her. What was this? She didn’t dare sit either, so she dragged it over to Song Wenwei’s side.
She patted off nonexistent dust from it. “Here, Lu Nan pulled it over for you to sit on.”
Song Wenwei had seen it all. Since neither of them sat, she wouldn’t either. So she pushed the chair back toward Lu Nan’s side. The chair circled around and ended up right back beside Lu Nan.
Lu Nan looked at the chair that had made a full loop back to her and fell silent for a moment.
“Why aren’t you two sitting?”
The pair shook their heads and waved their hands.
“How am I not trustworthy?” Mo Zhiting asked her. “I’ve always dealt with people honestly.”
