Avira’s sensations were interrupted just like that, and she was actually a bit displeased about it.
This should have been a perfectly normal matter. The Demon King needed children to continue her bloodline and to consolidate her power through blood ties, even if the Demon King wouldn’t be sealed and her daughter could never inherit the throne.
This was the purest thing in the Demon Race!
But Ophitia’s one sentence had interrupted Avira’s mood.
“Sorry, for interrupting your excitement…” Ophitia said, her face full of shame, as if she had noticed the change in Avira’s emotions.
“No way!”
Avira quickly refuted her. She didn’t move her body, still maintaining that shy posture, ready to continue at any moment.
“Master, what exactly are you hiding from me? Tell me what you want to say right now, okay?”
“Actually, I’m about to advance soon. Let me think… it’s just like Avira’s feathers.”
“Silver Feathers?”
“Yeah, we Crystal Dragons have our own cultivation system. This system was often used back when the Crystal Dragon clan members numbered in the double digits. It’s rarely described that way now. Um, I didn’t mean to bring up such a serious topic.”
“I’m fine with it.”
“I thought Avira liked this feeling.”
“I…”
Avira’s face turned bright red again. Pretending to be angry, she said, “I like it, but it’s not as important as you make it sound!”
To cover her embarrassment, she continued asking, “So, is that the only thing you were hiding from me—your cultivation? I thought monsters only had high-level and low-level distinctions, and that humans had already ranked you all.”
“Yeah, in Avira’s terms, I’m about to evolve into an [S-rank].”
“Oh?”
Avira nodded with keen interest.
No wonder she seemed so strong. So that was it.
S-rank monsters would be defined by the Holy Church as “world threats,” prompting a call for subjugation from across the globe. In the original plot, this was a trigger point for a “world-level quest.”
But whether in the past or now, Ophitia had collected at most four Seals, and she had just been defined as [S-rank] before plunging into fierce battles. Now, judging from the Pomistan incident, Ophitia was likely to become stronger than at any previous point.
“Demon King, have you thought about clashing with the Holy Church after becoming S-rank? But don’t worry—whatever your decision is, I can follow you all the way.”
“Hehe, actually, that’s not what I meant~” Ophitia said with a playful grin.
“Oh, then what is it?”
“There are some things I haven’t said, and Avira hasn’t asked about either. Actually, later on, we went to a very distant place. At that time, I discovered that once my power reaches a certain level, I can recover my previous memories.”
“Memories? Don’t you already have them?”
“I mean the memories from my time as one of those seven Demon Kings—those ancient recollections.”
Though Ophitia spoke casually with a smile on her face, Avira detected the bitterness and heaviness in her voice.
Sometimes, Ophitia would complain about how nice it would be if she weren’t the Demon King. Avira still remembered how heartbroken and self-doubting the Demon King had been during that period.
She was just a little girl, after all.
“Demon King, have you ever recovered your memories before?” Avira asked tentatively.
“No, I’ve never unlocked those past recollections, because it seems to represent breaking some kind of cycle—just like now.”
“I would ultimately be sealed, and then the world would return to peace. Perhaps every version of [me] thought that way.”
Avira nodded.
Ophitia suddenly covered her face. It seemed that since Avira hadn’t ruined the mood and was still holding still, the Demon King’s spirits weren’t too low.
“Actually, I originally thought it didn’t matter—just getting sealed one more time. But when I realized I was the Demon King who had been sealed seven times, I mentally prepared myself.”
Ophitia gave a dejected laugh.
“But now it’s different. If I’m sealed, I’ll lose you, and that’s an unprecedented blow to me.”
Avira didn’t know how to comfort Ophitia better. Normally in such situations, one would worry more about the other’s mental state rather than being overly sentimental about oneself. Of course, Avira suddenly wondered if the previous Demon Kings had had wives of their own?
Because neither in the plot nor in the worlds she had interfered with had the Demon King recovered her memories, Avira had always overlooked the Demon King’s “past lives.” But Ophitia cared deeply about it.
Avira felt a bit guilty.
“So what? As long as I don’t leave you, it’ll be fine, right?”
“Actually, I remembered someone very important.”
“Who?” Avira asked alertly. Could her premonition be true?
“I have no impression of her, but I know there was someone who made a promise with me before one of my sealings. After I absorbed the fourth Seal earlier, she acted like some kind of guide, wanting me to learn more truths about this world.”
“Hah?”
Avira’s little face puffed up. “Who is she? Definitely a girl, right?”
“Yeah, a girl. And I remember she was silver-colored, and very likely connected to the Holy Church.”
“What…”
Avira felt like her heart had taken a punch.
She rarely felt this stifled. She remembered the last time—when she and a friend had bought lottery tickets separately, and her friend’s had won.
Ophitia was clearly hers. Why reminisce about some other girl?
A promise? There was no such beautiful thing in this world. So-called promises were just nonsense blurted out in the heat of the moment without thinking!
It sounded just like some jerk woman who liked toying with Ophitia. She never imagined the Demon King would be deceived by such a woman. Damn it.
“I’m not sleeping with you anymore. Go think about your other woman.”
“Eh? Don’t be mad, Avira. I-I really don’t have those kinds of feelings for her!”
Ophitia hurriedly apologized.
“I-I was just saying, if I rely on Avira to recover my memories, I might remember… Wuu.”
Avira was only saying it with her mouth; she had no intention of actually leaving the Demon King. The child definitely had to be born. As long as the Demon King could gain more power from her, deepening Avira’s familiarization, she would remember. Avira wasn’t lovesick to the point of obsession; she just thought the Demon King deserved such treatment from her. Besides, recovering her memories sooner would let Avira see just which little vixen it was!
Did she want to steal the Demon King too? No, no—anyone who could make a promise with this idiot was definitely a scheming bad woman!
Unfortunately, her earlier words had triggered the Dominator’s Seal.
She kissed her, warm and sweetly cloying. Avira gently wrapped her arms around Ophitia’s neck.
Violence, gentleness, and urgency intertwined to form a beautiful picture, until Avira felt something like the switch for the Moon Mark flipping on, making the patterns heat up and become scorchingly hot. Avira opened her eyes wide and could only see Ophitia’s face, which looked a bit aggrieved yet somewhat excited.
“Don’t, touch there, wuu, my tail!”
“Wuu…”
