Chapter 1: I’m Not Really a Devil
“Thump!”
“Crash!”
Something collided with the table, sending the towering stack of books tumbling to the ground.
Kailun, who had been sleeping behind the books, was startled awake. He looked down in astonishment at the young woman sprawled on the floor.
She seemed to be around seventeen or eighteen, dressed in a standard school uniform. From behind, her figure was alluring and captivating. Her long, blue hair cascaded down her back, her slender waist was delicately curved, and her long legs, clad in black knee-high socks, were slightly curled as if in immense pain.
Clearly, the young woman lying on the ground was the poor soul who had crashed into Kailun’s table.
A flood of memories washed over Kailun’s mind, making it difficult for him to discern what was real.

He touched his chest, feeling the powerful beating of his heart. It felt surreal, like a dream.

Beside the girl’s sleeve lay a scroll with black markings. It was something stored in the library’s vault, containing dangerous magic.
Dangerous, but not fatal. Though called a Forbidden Scroll, it wasn’t particularly rare. Kailun’s family had a whole pile of them in their warehouse.
However, such knowledge was strictly controlled, and ordinary civilians rarely had access to it.
Seemingly noticing Kailun’s gaze, the girl, ignoring the pain, quickly hid the scroll back into her sleeve. Then, she slowly stood up. Judging by the way she clenched her teeth, it was clear she had taken a nasty fall.
“I’m so sorry, it’s all my fault. Let me help you pick up the books.”
Her eyes flickered nervously as she bent down to help Kailun gather the fallen books.
The familiar scene triggered memories from his past life. This was the start of her rise to prominence.
In his previous life, Kailun had been too preoccupied to notice the scroll, allowing her to slip away. This time, things would be different.
Today was a special day. It was not only a turning point in her fate, but also in his.
“Anna, let’s set aside picking up the books for now. I think we have more interesting things to discuss.” Kailun walked over and firmly grabbed the wrist she was using to conceal the scroll.

Without a word, Kailun pressed her wrist against the wall, trapping her. He leaned close to her pretty face, studying her with an intensely invasive gaze.
“What am I trying to do, Sister Anna? Don’t tell me you haven’t figured it out already?”
His scorching breath, so close to her face, sent shivers down Anna’s spine. She was terrified of what he might do to her, but even more afraid that he had seen the scroll and would expose her.
If this incident came to light, she would not only be expelled from the Royal Magic Academy, but also face harsh imprisonment.
All she could do now was pray that Kailun hadn’t seen the scroll that had fallen to the floor.
But luck was not on her side. As her mind raced, Kailun pulled the scroll out from her sleeve.
“What are you doing?! Give it back!”
Anna cried out in alarm, trying to snatch the scroll from Kailun’s grasp.
“Shh!” Kailun responded calmly to her outburst, his voice a low murmur. “Sister Anna, if you keep shouting like that, you’re sure to attract unwanted attention. What kind of faces do you think people will make when they see the brilliant Anna resorting to stealing a Forbidden Scroll? Hmmm, I’m suddenly rather curious. So go ahead, shout some more!”
His words had a sobering effect on Anna, and she quieted down. With downcast eyes and a pitiful expression, she pleaded with him. “I know I was wrong. Please, can you just forget you ever saw it?”
“No,” Kailun stated flatly, shaking his head.
Anna felt a sudden urge to cry.
She bit her lip, then lifted her head to glare at him, resentment flashing in her eyes. “As long as you promise not to tell anyone, I’ll agree to any reasonable request you have.”
Kailun reached out and gently pinched her smooth, delicate cheek, looking down at her with amusement. “Sister Anna, don’t you think you’re overestimating yourself a bit? Do you really believe that a simple request is enough to satisfy me?”
“Kailun, you’ve changed. You were never like this before. You’re no different from those disgusting nobles now. And aren’t you and Paul friends? Isn’t bullying a friend’s sister going too far?!”
Disgust filled her eyes. If she wasn’t caught in a vulnerable position, she would have slapped him without hesitation. Yesterday, Kailun had been nothing but a useless good-for-nothing in her eyes. Today, he had transformed into the spitting image of an arrogant noble.
Kailun continued to toy with her face, shaking his head. “Sister Anna, let’s not distort the truth. You are the one who did something wrong and are begging me to let you off the hook. You’re acting as if I’m the one who needs to apologize and forgive you. If you’d rather enjoy a nice stay in prison, then you’re free to leave right now.”
With that, he placed the Forbidden Scroll back into her hand and proceeded to leisurely gather the books scattered on the floor, placing them back on the table.
It was still class time, and the library was deserted. No one else had witnessed what had transpired between them.
He wasn’t worried about Anna running away or denying everything. It would be pointless.
His task complete, Kailun headed towards the library exit without looking back.
He knew Anna wouldn’t let him leave so easily.
“Wait!”
As expected, Anna hobbled after him and grabbed his hand, her voice strained with a mixture of frustration and desperation. “I’ll agree to any of your requests! Just please don’t tell anyone about this. Especially not my brother.”
Anna knew that if this incident were to be exposed, it wouldn’t just ruin her life, but also severely impact her younger brother’s future.
“A wise choice,” Kailun said with a smirk. He pulled out a contract and slapped it before her, his eyes gleaming with malicious amusement. “Since you’re begging so sincerely, I’m willing to give you a chance. After all, I’m not a devil.”
Anna stared at the document, her eyes widening in horror as she read its contents.

Really, the chinese authors are big fans of the System, I kinda find them boring. Like him not making his own decisions and relying on it for everything. But too early to judge, Let see.
Systems are awesome. Well, there are good and bad systems, but in general they are amazing.
