Dating My Ex After Breaking Up

分手后和前任谈恋爱
Native LanguageChinese

Shen Zhirou and Lu Yao met at a blind date arranged by relatives. By then, Lu Yao’s heart had already died—she simply wanted to find someone steady and live out her remaining years in quiet stability.

Everyone envied the plain-looking Shen Zhirou, who had neither car nor house, for ending up with the stunningly beautiful and wealthy Lu Yao. But only Shen Zhirou knew that Lu Yao’s gaze toward her was no different from the way one might appraise a clearly priced commodity.

Shen Zhirou thought that as long as she loved Lu Yao, it would be enough.

She had heard Lu Yao’s friends say more than once, “Your eyes look just like a friend of mine.”

Shen Zhirou didn’t pay it much mind at first. But gradually, she realized that Lu Yao seemed to like her eyes more than she liked her—and Lu Yao would only cling to her, murmuring “Jie Jie” in the throes of passion. In those seductive eyes, hazy with mist, Shen Zhirou glimpsed a light she had never seen outside their moments of wild abandon.

Later, Lu Yao’s white moonlight returned. Shen Zhirou could no longer deceive herself. She asked, “Did you marry me because of love… or because my eyes resemble hers?”

Lu Yao let out a light chuckle, as if the question was amusing. “Love? I’ve told you before, I can’t give you that.”

Weeks later, Lu Yao discovered that Shen Zhirou had already bought a house and erased herself completely from Lu Yao’s life.

Yet Lu Yao began to ache with longing for Shen Zhirou’s gentleness, her thoughtfulness—even the small, everyday moments they had shared.

She started engineering chance encounters, but Shen Zhirou’s attitude toward her remained coolly distant. That is, until one night in a bar’s private booth, when Lu Yao watched Shen Zhirou laughing softly with another woman. The woman’s lips brushed innocently against Shen Zhirou’s crisp white shirt, leaving behind an ambiguous lipstick mark. Lu Yao’s heart was pierced by a sharp blade.

Again and again, she sought out Shen Zhirou, begging for forgiveness.

Shen Zhirou simply stared at Lu Yao for a long moment before letting out a helpless sigh. “Yaoyao, we’re not right for each other.”

A decently interesting read, even if the writing tends to be a bit subpar at times.
Dating My Ex After Breaking Up dares to ask the bold question of “What if the one doing the wife chasing in the crematorium is also the cutest and bottomest bottom to have ever bottomed?”

And I don’t mean that, after chasing her wife, she changes to please her girlfriend. From the start, she’s one of the clingiest, cutest, and bottomest FLs I’ve ever seen.

This creates an interesting dichotomy. To set up the context, they get hitched stupidly fast. Their first date lasts 5 minutes, as a blind date, then they have a second date one week later, during which they decide to get married and start living together right away (this will happen again in this novel). Lu Yao starts as the standard “cold FL” that you would find in a typical crematorium. She’s rich, a workaholic, and she just wants to find a suitable marriage partner to appease her parents, but she doesn’t want to have any romantic entanglement with them. She picked Shen Zhirou because her eyes reminded her of her first love, Wen Jin, but make no mistake, outside of an initial point of attraction, Lu Yao doesn’t see Shen Zhirou as a substitute, and she doesn’t have any feelings left for Wen Jin.

But right when they start living together (one week after their first meeting, as a reminder), Lu Yao shows a drastically different side of herself. She’s the cutest, most charming bottom that I’ve ever read. When she’s in bed with Shen Zhirou, she gets soft and clingy with her, begging and charming her for affection. She’s also incredibly cuddly and teasing, in the cutest of ways. And very quickly, it’s not just in bed. She loves cuddling with Shen Zhirou while she cooks, or, for example, sitting on her lap while she eats.

But on the other hand, while she loves being affectionate and clingy when she’s with Shen Zhirou, she also doesn’t want to do “romance,” so outside of that, she almost completely ignores Shen Zhirou. She doesn’t answer her messages, she doesn’t pick up her calls, she doesn’t know much about her, nor does she want to put any effort into learning about her.

Spoiler for the mid-story
Eventually, the pile-up from her family issues, Lu Yao’s family’s attitude, Lu Yao’s hot-and-cold attitude, and finally learning that Lu Yao’s initial attraction stemmed from the fact that she had eyes similar to Wen Jin’s causes Shen Zhirou to finally break things off with Lu Yao. Lu Yao initially doesn’t take it seriously, thinking that Shen Zhirou loves her too much to actually leave her, but when she realizes that she’s not coming back, she starts spiraling, doing everything she can to get her back, abandoning all of her pride and previous reservations, almost entirely cutting ties with her family, and eventually adopting her clingy/cuddly personality full-time, becoming a clingy, cuddly, soft and cute kitten who loves her Shen Zhirou and has learned from her mistakes.

There are also some side couples, with Shen Zhirou’s best friend, Zhao Tongtong,

getting hitched with her own CEO and also moving in together less than a week after dating.
Shen Zhirou’s sister, Shen Yumian,
Spoiler for the romance
also gets hitched with her own CEO after landing a job as her personal assistant and taking care of her child.
But honestly, the side couples are less interesting.

It’s mostly a fun read, even if some plot points are a bit contrived, and the writing tends to be a bit cheap at times, but the dynamic of Lu Yao’s hot-and-cold clinginess makes it a fun read nonetheless.
