Through the conversations in the bullet comments, Amelia already knew enough.
“Eileen, let’s find a place to rest for a bit,” Amelia said, taking Eileen’s hand.
Eileen nodded.
Seeing Lester had dampened her mood considerably. If she were alone, she would insist on revenge first, no matter what. But she couldn’t drag Amelia into her personal troubles.
Nor could she leave Amelia to seek revenge on her own. She knew Amelia still needed her personal protection; she had to stay by her side.
Amelia walked along, holding Eileen’s hand, and soon they arrived at a tavern.
Very few establishments were still open in Rhine City. This tavern, called Hero’s Tavern, was one of them.
Inside, the windows were tightly shut. Only a lamp on the counter emitted any light, its glow dim and casting the entire tavern in a dusky gloom.
There were only a few patrons inside right now, scattered in different spots, drinking alone. The atmosphere was very quiet.
Amelia led Eileen to a seat in the tavern.
“Two beautiful misses, welcome to Hero’s Tavern. I am the owner, Lester Cooper. What can I get for you?”
Lester walked over, a gentlemanly smile on his face.
At the moment, Amelia and Eileen were travel-worn from their long journey, both looking dusty and disheveled. Any natural beauty would have been hard to discern. But as a tavern owner, addressing any lady or young miss as “beautiful” was simply basic etiquette.
This was Lester’s tavern.
After learning the location of Hero’s Tavern from the bullet comments, Amelia had come straight here.
Of course, she had confirmed through the comments that Lester wouldn’t recognize Eileen before she came.
It had been over a decade since Lester caused the death of Eileen’s parents. Eileen had been only three years old at the time. Fifteen years had passed since then. Her appearance had naturally changed immeasurably. It would be strange if Lester recognized her.
But hearing Lester’s voice, Eileen’s whole body trembled. She had never imagined that walking into a random tavern would lead her straight to him.
Her instinct was to look up, but feeling Amelia sitting beside her, she forcibly controlled herself for Amelia’s safety. She kept her head down, not letting Lester see her fleeting change of expression.
But her small hands clutched at her now-soiled dress, gripping so tightly her knuckles turned pale.
“Sir, we’d like two glasses of milk,” Amelia said with a slight smile, placing a twenty-Kerr banknote on the table.
“Two glasses of milk, coming right up.”
Lester took the Kerr and turned away.
[What a coincidence. Amelia just picks any random tavern, and it happens to be the one Lester runs.]
[It’s a small world.]
[Even if Eileen isn’t as powerful as she will be in the future, she could still defeat Lester right now. But she can’t do that here.]
[This isn’t a good location for a fight. It would draw the armies of the Three Great Kingdoms.]
As Lester walked away, Amelia turned to the silver-haired girl beside her. “Eileen, did you know that man?”
Eileen flinched slightly and shook her head hurriedly. “I don’t know him. This is the first time I’ve seen him.”
“No, you’re lying to me. You definitely know that man. Eileen, don’t lie to me,” Amelia said, looking at her deeply.
