Looking at the chestnut-haired girl before her, information about her surfaced in Amelia’s mind.
Polly Sophis!
The Sophis family held a Viscount title, and Polly was their only daughter. Spoiled from birth, she was arrogant and looked down on almost everyone.
If the person before her were Vera, a Count’s direct daughter, Polly wouldn’t have been so bold. But this girl was merely a distant relative of a Count’s family. She had no reason to hesitate.
“Polly, I believe I can make my own decisions in this matter,” Amelia said, glancing at her.
“And I think your blunt refusal is far too disrespectful,” Polly retorted sharply.
She hadn’t known Amelia before. Her targeting of her stemmed from jealousy.
Before Amelia’s arrival, Polly, as the highest-ranked noble in the harp class, was the center of everyone’s attention, which greatly soothed her ego.
But the moment Amelia appeared, she noticed everyone’s eyes fixed on the newcomer.
Those boys who usually hovered around her, showering her with attention, now only had eyes for Amelia. Why? Was Amelia prettier than her?
There was another factor, too.
Polly found Ron’s appearance very much to her taste. Unlike the immature boys around her, Ron exuded the charm of a mature man, making her heart beat faster.
So if she could put on a display in front of him, she wouldn’t mind at all.
Amelia replied calmly, “Polly, I think interrupting someone else’s conversation is also a display of disrespect, don’t you?”
“Teacher Weber and I are only thinking of your good. How can that be considered rude? On the contrary, your behavior is damaging the reputation of the Hicks family.”
“Whether something is truly for someone’s own good shouldn’t be a one-sided assumption. And whether it damages the Hicks family’s reputation shouldn’t be one-sided speculation either.”
“So you’re saying your harp skills are flawless and we’re just overthinking?”
“Perhaps it’s not polite to say so, but my harp knowledge is indeed problem-free. I don’t need any tutoring.”
As Amelia spoke, she continued to observe Polly.
Why did this girl decide to butt into my conversation with Ron? Could she also be connected to the Red Moon Society?
“Lily, since you believe your harp knowledge is flawless, why not demonstrate it? If there truly are no problems, I’ll admit I was being meddlesome,” Polly said provocatively.
Since Amelia had only just enrolled today, Polly suspected that even if she had studied the harp before, her skills would be limited. How could outside learning compare to the education here?
This was White Maple Academy, the most prestigious school in the entire Luban Duchy. The knowledge gained here was simply incomparable to what was taught anywhere else.
By now, the situation had spiraled beyond Ron’s expectations.
He hadn’t anticipated someone like Polly suddenly emerging to speak on his behalf. He wasn’t yet sure if this was a good or bad thing for him.
“What do you think, Lily?” Polly asked, a hint of a mocking smile on her lips.
Many in the classroom were now watching the scene unfold, their attention focused on the confrontation.
Under so many gazes, Amelia remained composed. Her life experience, though brief, had been complex. This was a trivial matter for her.
Amelia smiled faintly. “Since you wish to hear a piece from me, I can oblige you. It’s no trouble at all.”
She recalled her harp knowledge.
The original owner had studied at the Royal Academy of the Sainsol Empire. Although her main focus was foreign languages, she had also taken up the harp as a secondary pursuit, reaching a high level of proficiency.
That was the Royal Academy of the Sainsol Empire, after all, a place far surpassing the White Maple Academy here in the Luban Duchy!
As a flood of information poured into her mind, Amelia walked over to a harp. Her slender fingers settled on the strings and began to pluck them with a measured grace.
A melody like flowing spring water cascaded from her fingertips.
The scattered chatter in the classroom vanished instantly. Everyone unconsciously focused, drawn into the melody Amelia was playing.
It was a piece called “Crimson Moon Goddess Irina.”
Everyone present had heard it before; it was standard textbook material. They all even knew how to play it on the harp.
But as they listened to Amelia’s rendition, their expressions grew dazed, as if their very souls had been transported by the flowing music to a fantastical world, witnessing the titular heroine’s journey.
No one had expected Amelia to play at such an extraordinary level.
When the final notes faded, the classroom remained utterly silent. No one spoke, as if still savoring the exquisite artistry of the performance.
“Teacher Weber, will that suffice?” Amelia asked, turning to Ron.
Ron, too, had been momentarily carried away by the music. He snapped back to attention at her words and gave a wry smile. “No problems at all. Your skill is exceptionally high; you truly do not need any tutoring.”
He hadn’t anticipated Amelia possessing such harp mastery, rivaling even his own. With this, he had no excuse to tutor her privately.
“In that case, I’ll take my leave,” Amelia said with a slight smile, excusing herself.
As for Polly, Amelia didn’t spare her another glance.
Watching Amelia leave, Polly said nothing more.
Her face turned ashen, then flushed with humiliation. She hadn’t imagined Amelia’s harp skills were on such a level. Her earlier provocation now made her look like a complete fool.
“Alright, everyone, enjoy your break. There’s plenty of time before the next lesson; you’re free to do as you please,” Ron broke the silence in the classroom.
True to the Academy’s emphasis on balancing work and rest, the breaks between different classes were a full hour long.
After speaking, Ron left the classroom himself.
Seeing him depart so abruptly without so much as a word to her, Polly felt deeply aggrieved. Her attempt to attract his attention had been a spectacular failure.
Amelia left the Art Department building and headed straight for the Culture Department.
Soon, she and Verna were standing under the white maple tree behind the building.
“Lily, you look rather serious. Did you discover something?” Verna asked, curious.
Amelia had only recently come to her about Ron’s situation. It was surprising that she’d returned so soon. Could she have made another discovery already?
Even if her subordinates were efficient, they couldn’t be this efficient, could they? And weren’t her people supposed to be busy with other tasks?
“Verna, I remember what Ron looks like now,” Amelia said earnestly.
“Oh? You remembered? What are his distinguishing features?” Verna perked up.
If she knew the target’s appearance, it would make the search much easier for her people.
Amelia’s expression turned a bit strange. “The reason I remembered his appearance is because I’ve already seen him.”
“You saw the Red Moon Society man? Here at White Maple Academy?”
“Yes, here at White Maple Academy.”
“Who is it?”
“Our new harp teacher, now going by the name Weber Jopar.”
“A harp teacher?”
Verna was astounded.
From Amelia’s intelligence, Ron had only arrived in Bild City yesterday. To infiltrate White Maple Academy as a teacher within a single night… the speed was incredible.
How had he managed it?
A flurry of possibilities and speculations raced through Verna’s mind.
Meanwhile, the audience was equally stunned.
【Amelia actually knew the new teacher was Ron?】
【If she really had a group of unseen subordinates, maybe she did get a description of Ron from them and managed to figure it out? It’s not that strange.】
【It’s way too strange, okay? Ron doesn’t have a unique, easily describable face; how could she identify him just from a description?】
【The main thing is that his arrival was way too coincidental.】
【The surname! Ron and Weber share the same surname. Maybe that’s what tipped her off? After all, Amelia has always been very clever.】
【So you’re all just accepting that Amelia has some secret squad of subordinates we haven’t seen?】
【If Amelia has subordinates, why haven’t they appeared? Are they a bunch of goofballs who are too awkward to show on screen?】
The bullet comments were somewhat chaotic, covering various angles.
But the audience quickly accepted that Amelia had recognized Ron. After the previous plot point where she inexplicably knew about Ron’s existence, this latest development hardly seemed surprising.
Verna thought for a moment, then said, “Lily, since Ron has infiltrated the Academy, his goal is obvious. You need to be careful.”
“Of course. I’d like to deal with him as quickly as possible.”
“Deal with him? You mean attack him? But we don’t know his strength. A rash attack could be dangerous.”
“No, I don’t mean a direct confrontation. I think we can resolve this through a side channel.”
“A side channel? What are you thinking of?”
“For example, we report him.”
“Report him?”
Verna was dumbfounded. In all the plans she’d envisioned, reporting had never been an option.
Amelia lowered her voice. “Ron is with the Red Moon Society. That identity makes him a pariah once exposed. So we just need to find a way to leak that information.”
“But how do we make people believe he’s a Red Moon Society member?” Verna asked.
“We don’t necessarily have to prove it conclusively. We just need to cast suspicion on him.” Amelia’s logic was very clear. “I don’t know how he became a teacher here, but I understand his credentials won’t hold up under scrutiny. We just need to get the Security Office to suspect him.”
“I see.” Verna’s eyes lit up as she grasped Amelia’s intent.
Simply making Ron a suspect, rather than proving his guilt outright—that was incredibly simple.
“I’ll leave this operation to you,” Amelia said to Verna.
“No problem. You’ve already discovered Ron’s presence and confirmed his identity. Leave the rest to me. I can’t let you do everything,” Verna agreed with a nod.
“One more thing,” Amelia added, as if remembering something. “There’s also Polly Sophis. She might be connected to the Red Moon Society as well.”
“Sophis… the Viscount Sophis family?” Verna mused.
She had no idea who Polly was, but as a Viscount family, the Sophis name was known to her.
Amelia nodded. “Polly Sophis is the Viscount’s daughter. I suspect she may also be involved with the Red Moon Society. Include her in the report, just in case.”
“I understand,” Verna agreed.
【Wait… Polly doesn’t actually have ties to the Red Moon Society, does she?】
【You can’t be sure. What if she does? Amelia is much smarter than us; if she thinks so, there must be a reason.】
【I kinda feel like Amelia is just getting a little petty revenge for what happened earlier.】
【Bite your tongue! Our Amelia would never be so petty. Polly is definitely connected to the Red Moon Society!】
【Either way, Ron never imagined his cover would be blown the moment he infiltrated the Academy, right?】
Amelia glanced at the bullet comments.
Was Polly truly connected to the Red Moon Society?
Honestly, Amelia wasn’t certain. She had only added her name as a precaution. If Polly was innocent, the Security Office would surely clear her.
The two didn’t linger together for long. Once their discussion was over, they separated.
Verna had matters to arrange. After all, making Ron a suspect without putting herself directly in the crosshairs was a delicate task.
Amelia returned to her dormitory to rest.
Maids and guards were not permitted during class time, so Eileen had been waiting in the dorm.
Upon her return, Amelia first briefed Eileen on the situation regarding Ron.
