Side Story 4
After returning to Chaoxi Pond, Mu Tao’s condition seemed to improve.
Whether this was due to being back in a familiar environment or the effects of their dual cultivation,
It was a good thing.
Li Yu looked at the snow outside the window; it felt like those peaceful days had returned.
As her consciousness gradually recovered, Mu Tao no longer needed reminders; she would go to the kitchen and prepare meals at mealtimes.
Previously, Li Yu had to go to the kitchen herself, choose the ingredients, wash and chop them, before a dazed Mu Tao would wander in and take over.
But although Mu Tao was cooking again, Li Yu no longer waited passively in her room for the food to be served.
She would follow Mu Tao to the kitchen and help with minor tasks.
She couldn’t explain why, perhaps because Mu Tao seemed more…lucid while cooking.
Actually, it was the same during their dual cultivation sessions.
Sometimes, Li Yu wondered if Mu Tao had already regained consciousness and was just playing along.
Like when Li Yu was under the spell, awake yet pretending.
But if that were the case, Li Yu had been forced, so what was Mu Tao’s reason?
Surely she wasn’t faking it to…take advantage?
If so, she wouldn’t let this little wolf cub into her bed for half a month!
Although she joked about this, a hope bloomed in her heart.
To help Mu Tao recover, Li Yu would chat with her, take her for walks around Chaoxi Pond.
When they were tired, they would sit and rest, drawing in the snow with twigs.
Mu Tao would initially just sit and watch, her body swaying slightly, then she also started writing in the snow.
Li Yu would always peek at what she wrote.
The words and phrases were random, disconnected, just practice strokes.
And among them, occasionally, a simplified character.
She had taught Mu Tao those, but Weisheng Xuanzhu had corrected them.
After two hundred years, Mu Tao should know the correct way to write those characters, so these mistakes indicated her mind was still muddled.
Mu Tao’s handwriting was much better now than when she was a little wolf cub.
Li Yu would always watch her, a smile playing on her lips.
Chaoxi Pond, covered in snow, was beautiful, the splash of red against the white even more so.
She had plenty of time to wait, to wait for Mu Tao’s recovery.
And her own health was also important.
If she didn’t recover, she would continue to be vulnerable.
Since their daily dual cultivation sessions did seem to accelerate her healing, Li Yu became more…cooperative.
But the more cooperative she was, the more demanding Mu Tao became.
Initially, it was only at night, in bed.
Then, gradually, it happened during the day as well, Mu Tao suddenly carrying her to bed.
And now, it could happen anytime, anywhere, and even the threat of talismans was useless.
The ever-freezing Heavenly Pond at Chaoxi Pond also became one of Mu Tao’s favorite spots.
After exhausting Li Yu, she would carry her to the pond to “wash up.”
This “washing up,” of course, was just a change of scenery.
Li Yu lost count of how many times she had been pulled, exhausted, from the pond, only to be pulled back in moments later.
Their three rules were now completely disregarded.
She had married a true wolf, one that devoured its prey completely.
This wolf, initially somewhat restrained, now, sensing her recovery, was becoming increasingly unrestrained.
Not only longer sessions, but also…more variety.
Li Yu wasn’t sure if Mu Tao had secretly incorporated some fasting technique into their dual cultivation; the longest session had lasted for days, the sky outside darkening and brightening several times, yet she hadn’t felt hungry.
They had time for meals, walks, and conversations before, when did things change?
She didn’t dare think about it too deeply.
After all, some of the things this girl did to her were…not suitable for public consumption.
The little wooden box was almost full.
If this continued, the next time they visited the human realm, she might be rich enough to buy a city.
She had considered using the restraining talismans, but dual cultivation was healing her, so she put them away.
As these days continued, the first full moon of spring appeared in the sky.
In a blink, it was spring again.
Mu Tao’s slender fingers, imbued with a faint spiritual light, gently combed through Li Yu’s wet hair, drying it strand by strand, before dressing her in clean robes.
Even with her mind muddled, Mu Tao was incredibly meticulous about dressing Li Yu.
Although they both knew these clothes would soon be torn again, Mu Tao still enjoyed dressing her master.
Even disheveled and exhausted, her master, like a delicate flower fallen to earth.
“Master is truly the best master in the world,” Mu Tao whispered against Li Yu’s ear.
Her warm breath, a fleeting warmth against Li Yu’s ear, cooled by the spring breeze.
In the past, Li Yu would have blushed.
But now, she was immune.
She would just clutch Mu Tao’s sleeve and mutter curses under her breath.
Mu Tao, her gaze intense, seemingly didn’t hear, didn’t respond.
But Li Yu knew she heard because a few more curses would be silenced by a deep kiss.
Then Mu Tao would carry her, her destination unknown.
Patches of snow still lingered on the grass outside.
Li Yu, her arms around Mu Tao’s neck, asked habitually, “Where are we going?”
Mu Tao: “Taking Master back to rest.”
Li Yu: “More like taking me to bed for another round.”
Mu Tao smiled faintly, saying nothing.
After a moment of silence, Li Yu glared at her. “Have you…regained consciousness?”
Mu Tao: “Does Master still have the energy to continue?”
Li Yu: “…”
Who taught this little wolf cub such things? How could she read her so well?
Mu Tao: “Master’s spiritual energy has recovered quite a bit recently.”
Li Yu: “…”
Yes, her spiritual energy had recovered, but her body felt like it was falling apart, constantly aching and exhausted.
It was surely this insatiable little glutton’s fault.
Li Yu: “But you should answer my question directly.”
Mu Tao: “Hmm?”
Li Yu: “Have you regained consciousness?”
Mu Tao didn’t answer, just smiled faintly.
She carried Li Yu back to their room and gently placed her on the bed.
Her touch was incredibly gentle, as if afraid of breaking her, a tenderness she never showed during their dual cultivation.
“Are you hungry, Master?” Mu Tao leaned down and kissed her forehead. “I’ll go and make you something to eat.”
Clearly avoiding the question!
Li Yu frowned and grabbed her skirt, making it clear she wasn’t going anywhere until they talked.
“When did you wake up?” Li Yu asked, her voice filled with displeasure.
No wonder she had sensed something different in Mu Tao’s eyes during their…activities.
She was now certain that Mu Tao had regained consciousness.
Perhaps not completely, but mostly.
“Not long ago,” Mu Tao stopped, turned around, knelt by the window, rested her chin on her hands, and looked at Li Yu with a smile. “Aren’t you hungry, Master? You were always happy when I cooked for you, why are you holding me back today?”
“How long is ‘not long ago’?” Li Yu pressed.
She couldn’t let her go so easily, it would make her seem too easy to manipulate.
“I can’t say for sure,” Mu Tao said, caressing Li Yu’s flushed cheek.
She didn’t know when she truly awakened.
Her consciousness had returned in fragments, a fleeting awareness she couldn’t grasp.
She only knew that her master was incredibly beautiful, captivating.
She loved the way her hair spread across the bed, like silk, flowing through her fingers.
She loved the way her clothes tore, the delicate fabric unable to conceal her pale skin, slightly damp, like a flower blooming in the morning mist.
And in the water, the strands of hair, spreading like a translucent fishtail, swaying gently, every movement mesmerizing.
Every intimate encounter brought her closer to awareness,
Memories of a forgotten past returning.
She didn’t know whether to grieve or be grateful for these memories.
She didn’t dare think too deeply, just looked at the seemingly fragile Li Yu in her arms, repeatedly testing the boundaries.
She could sense her master’s exhaustion and the occasional flicker of anger.
But she couldn’t stop, as if seeking an answer in these moments of intimacy.
Even if she went this far, would her master still leave her?
Perhaps she shouldn’t even question it anymore.
Her master’s disheveled appearance mirrored the turmoil in her own heart.
For a moment, as she looked at Li Yu, tears welled up in her eyes.
“Will you…punish me, Master?”
“…”
“Whatever your punishment, I’ll accept it,” she whispered.
…There was no need for punishment.
“But you…you’ve abandoned me before…more than once…”
…Was she bringing up the past now?
Li Yu nervously looked at Mu Tao, her mouth open slightly, as if wanting to explain.
Mu Tao gently kissed the hand clutching her skirt.
“You can’t leave this time, Master.”
Her voice was no longer filled with the insecurity of before.
Perhaps those fragmented memories had finally convinced her that, no matter the time, no matter the place, this person was here for her, only for her.
Tears welled up in Li Yu’s eyes, and she took Mu Tao’s hands, whispering, “I won’t leave, wherever you are, I’ll be there.”
Mu Tao: “Then I won’t leave either.”
Li Yu: “Hmm?”
Before she could react, Mu Tao, who had been kneeling by the bed, climbed back onto the bed and untied the sash of her robe again.
Wait, wasn’t she supposed to be cooking?
Li Yu instinctively pushed against Mu Tao’s shoulders. “I don’t think you’re fully recovered yet!”
Mu Tao: “I don’t know either, Master, why have you become so intoxicating?”
Li Yu: “?”
Mu Tao: “It’s so hard to…stay away.”
Li Yu: “.”
What a troublesome disciple…
Mu Tao playfully touched the silver bells on her wrist and leaned closer to Li Yu’s ear, whispering,
“The person who took me in as a disciple all those years ago…wasn’t you, was it?”
“…”
“Those unspoken words from before…can you tell me now, Master?”
“Why don’t you go and cook, and we can talk while we eat…” Li Yu suggested tentatively.
As she spoke, she felt a surge of spiritual energy flowing into her body,
Accompanied by a soft whisper,
“Where do you truly come from, Master?”
“Are you sure…you want to ask that…?”
“Is it wrong to ask? During dual cultivation, if Master isn’t truthful, your emotions will be unstable, and your spiritual energy will become chaotic.”
As Mu Tao spoke, she started undressing Li Yu again.
Li Yu sighed and, no longer resisting, wrapped her arms around Mu Tao’s waist, and, following the familiar rhythm, began circulating her spiritual energy.
Even if lying didn’t disrupt her spiritual energy, she couldn’t lie this time.
During dual cultivation, her mind was always…hazy.
She would answer truthfully, no matter how unbelievable the truth might be.
Whether Mu Tao believed her or not was…Mu Tao’s problem.
