Chapter 65: Defense
The night was already very deep. The mountain fog was as thick as if it couldn’t be spread apart at all. The staff in security uniforms walked in front, the flashlight beam piercing the thick fog. The tourists trapped in the cable car also followed with their phones as flashlights, walking down the mountain together.
The mountain forest at night was wet and cold. Their shoes stepped on the grass that was high enough to cover their ankles, making their socks wet. Besides the gloomy chirping of insects and birds, there was only the sound of the crowd whispering.
After the cable car resumed power, it took them to the mountainside, and then they had to walk down the mountain themselves. Su Yu, Xia Qian Ge, and Lu Siyuan met up before following the main group down the mountain. During this time, An Zhi had called many times to inquire about the situation, but the signal in the mountains was not good. They only roughly replied with a few messages to prove that they were fine.
Lu Siyuan led his frightened girlfriend, Tang Xin, in front, carefully taking care of her emotions along the way.
Su Yu followed behind, while Xia Qian Ge deliberately walked at a distance from him. The girl had been looking down and not speaking since she got off the cable car. It was dark in the woods, and Su Yu couldn’t see Xia Qian Ge’s face clearly.
His heart softened. He didn’t push Xia Qian Ge away, but he didn’t think that the ambiguous gesture in the cable car would change their relationship too much. After all, Xia Qian Ge was not that kind of lovesick girl. In his previous life, he had never figured out why Xia Qian Ge had fallen in love with him. He only knew that Xia Qian Ge had told him that the confession that had not been accepted in high school was the biggest reason she was willing to agree to Su Yu.
What happened today might make Xia Qian Ge distance herself because of resentment, but maybe this was actually a good opportunity.
It was almost eleven o’clock when they returned to the guesthouse. The little girl who hadn’t gone had already washed up and was wearing a fluffy pink pajama, hugging a small teddy bear to welcome them at the door. She carefully checked everyone who returned, and only breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that they were fine.
“Really, next time you have to go with me. Do you know how worried I was after I woke up? You guys are so worry-free.”
An Zhi puffed out her somewhat flat chest, looking like a little adult.
She walked up to Xia Qian Ge, who was looking down and not speaking, and took her arm. Her big eyes blinked with some worry. “Sister, are you okay? Why aren’t you speaking?”
“I’m fine…”
Xia Qian Ge looked up, as if amused by An Zhi’s quirky expression. She reached out and pinched the baby fat on her cheek, her furrowed brows suddenly relaxing. “It’s you… why did you eat all the snacks on the table?”
“Hehe, I was hungry.” An Zhi smiled shyly and shook Xia Qian Ge’s arm. “Sister, go take a shower. I’ve already prepared your blanket and pajamas.”
“Okay, you go in first. You don’t have to wait for me. I’m not sleepy yet.” Xia Qian Ge gently patted An Zhi’s head. “Go to sleep if you’re sleepy. We have to get up early tomorrow to climb the mountain.”
“Okay… then I’ll go back first.” An Zhi pouted, a little unwilling, but she still said goodbye and went back to her bedroom first.
Su Yu, who was standing at the door, stopped Xia Qian Ge, who was about to go out, and asked, “Where are you going?”
“I can’t sleep. I’m going out for some air.” Xia Qian Ge looked up and smiled.
“Then… do you want me to go with you?”
“No, the lights outside the guesthouse are bright, and there are still a lot of people walking in the woods in the backyard. It’s not dangerous. You guys go to sleep first. And… you know, I want to calm down for a while.”
Xia Qian Ge didn’t deliberately mention what happened on the cable car, but it didn’t mean it didn’t matter to her as she had shown on the surface.
Su Yu made way for her. “Okay, I know. I’ll leave a light on for you.”
“Okay, thank you.” Xia Qian Ge smiled and agreed, opening the door and leaving the room.
“Are you okay? What’s wrong?”
Lu Siyuan, who had just comforted Tang Xin, came out of their room to wash up and happened to see Xia Qian Ge go out.
“It’s nothing. She can’t sleep and wants to go for a walk. After all, a lot has happened today.”
Su Yu didn’t want to say too much and casually brushed it off. He rubbed his sore eyes, feeling a little sleepy.
…
The wind outside the guesthouse was strong. Xia Qian Ge stood in the woods for a long time, her mind blank. The sound of the wind rustling through the leaves filled her ears. She wanted to calm down… being able to say those words in the room had already pushed her to her limit.
Her breathing began to quicken, longing for… the breath that had just passed, like a drug addict who was not satisfied.
She was lying in his arms, the scent of his flesh and blood almost filling her body. The emptiness of her soul, the craving of her body… all needed to be soothed. Every cell was clamoring… not enough.
But in the end, the only thing lingering at the tip of her nose was the wet, fishy smell of the mountain wind mixed with the soil.
The fanatical and excited fantasies that had grown in her heart did not subside with the cold of the night. As far as her eyes could see, it was an endless darkness, just like the dark thoughts that were now exploding in her mind.
Xia Qian Ge suddenly felt a little annoyed. Why was he so close to her, as if she could touch his cheek with just a reach of her hand? But such a close distance seemed to be separated by a chasm.
She so wanted to let go, to completely stop struggling in the web of love she had woven for herself, to be deeply intoxicated in her twisted and strong feelings for him, to let the dark emotions control her.
To fall completely.
…
The lock turned, and the door to the room was pushed open.
The living room was indeed still lit. Xia Qian Ge stood at the door, her gaze passing through the entrance. She saw the person lying on the sofa, seemingly already asleep. Before she came back, she had deliberately sent a message to An Zhi, but she had not received a reply. She should have already rested.
Xia Qian Ge gently closed the door, blocking the cold wind howling in the corridor. Her hands and feet were cold, her messy clothes falling to one side, revealing her delicate and small collarbone. She felt that she had calmed down a lot. The coldness of her body made her teeth chatter. The burgeoning desire was all swept away by the wet and cold mountain wind.
She hated this side of herself, obsessive and crazy, yet humble to the core, just like…
Xia Qian-ge looked down at her shoes. After walking in the woods, the soles of her shoes were stained with a lot of mud, making the originally clean white edges of her shoes look a little ugly.
She sat down at the entrance and took off her shoes, rubbing the soles on the edge of the concrete steps. The black mud accumulated on the edge of the steps, but more mud was squeezed into the pattern of the soles, tightly embedded in the grooves of the soles, unable to be driven away, becoming more and more dirty and stubborn with the passage of time.
So disgusting.
Xia Qian Ge thought to herself with a blank expression, as if speaking to herself.
Xia Qian Ge took off her shoes and threw them casually at the entrance, no longer paying attention to them. She walked through the living room and glanced at Su Yu, who was lying on the sofa with his back to her. But just at that moment, he turned over, his eyes closed, revealing a pure and harmless sleeping face, apparently already fast asleep.
The two bedrooms were quiet, only the sound of water dripping from the faucet in the kitchen. But Xia Qian Ge seemed to hear a strange whisper in her ear, like a demon tempting a mortal to commit a sin.
Xia Qian Ge walked barefoot on the floor. Her pale and stiff hands and feet slowly began to regain their color, the rushing blood sending warmth to every corner of her body.
I really want to…
The boy seemed to be having a nightmare. His soft and charming eyebrows furrowed slightly, like the first spring water that melted the white snow in early spring. In that instant, all her thoughts of resisting were in vain. A moth flew into a raging fire, its bones and flesh reduced to black ashes, swept away by the mountain wind into the natural forest.
Xia Qian Ge slowly squatted down, looking at the body that she had been dreaming of. Some dark thoughts broke through the defense of her reason and fell into her mind. If she couldn’t get his spirit for the time being, then she also longed for the pleasure of his body…
Swallowing the saliva that had accumulated in her mouth, her heart, which had briefly stopped, began to pound wildly.
