Chapter 10
Hearing this, Zhou Jinsi was momentarily dazed.
Her brain failed to process it. “Huh?” she asked blankly.
Shi Hua thought she didn’t believe her and made a point to explain again, “I mean, she’s an actress. She just happens to be filming at the school during this time.”
Zhou Jinsi noticed that as soon as Shi Qin was mentioned, Shi Hua’s entire demeanor seemed to change. A look of pride even appeared on her face. It was clear the two sisters had a very good relationship.
But… why had she never heard Shi Qin mention she had a younger sister before? In fact, she rarely heard her mention her family at all. Recalling it now, Zhou Jinsi realized that most of her conversations with Shi Qin back then had been about trivial, everyday matters.
It seemed she didn’t really know this person that well…
Moreover, Zhou Jinsi looked up and studied Shi Hua carefully.
She had the standard student bob with straight-cut bangs and shoulder-length hair. Like her past self, she wore a pair of black-framed glasses and exuded a youthful innocence.
Although her features could be considered refined, there was still a huge gap between her and Shi Qin. Not only that, but not a single one of her facial features bore any resemblance to her sister. It was for this reason that, even with the same surname, Zhou Jinsi had never connected Shi Hua to Shi Qin.
“Teacher?” Shi Hua called out to her. She was, after all, a shy person, and being stared at so intently, even if unintentionally, made her a little embarrassed.
Zhou Jinsi snapped out of her thoughts. “Oh, I see… you can go then. You should still get some rest at noon, or you’ll be sleepy in your afternoon classes.”
Shi Hua nodded obediently and left the office.
Zhou Jinsi watched her figure retreat, once again lost in a daze.
…
Shi Qin was sitting in her dressing room, scrolling through Weibo. Most of what she saw was about herself; after all, she didn’t have much time to gossip about or discuss others.
Having been in the industry for a while, what she hated most were people who didn’t know the truth but still pointed fingers at others.
Just then, she came across a post from a gossip account announcing that the movie had started filming.
Shi Qin looked at the comments. As expected, there were some of Yin Chenxuan’s die-hard “girlfriend fans” complaining about why she was always hovering around Yin Chenxuan and asking how long she was going to keep using their “brother” for publicity.
Shi Qin loved reading negative comments; she found the remarks of foolish people hilarious.
She scrolled to the bottom of these similar comments and mentally rolled her eyes.
Using her alternate account, she replied to the most-liked negative comment:
[Hey patient, could you please not let your emotions run wild? Countless people can be around your ‘brother,’ but it will never be you. Stop fantasizing. You’re the one who’s trying the hardest to latch on to him in the whole world.]
After hitting send, Shi Qin finally let out a breath of frustration and then put her phone aside.
Just then, Mo Li came in with Shi Hua.
For the past six months, Shi Qin’s work schedule had been packed. She was either flying to other cities or cooped up on set, with very little time to go home and see her family.
After not seeing her for just half a year, Shi Qin felt that Shi Hua had changed a bit. Perhaps it was the pressure of her third year of high school; she was thinner than before, and she seemed to have grown a little taller.
“Big Sis,” Shi Hua stood at the doorway, calling out to Shi Qin in a soft, sweet voice.
It had been a while since they had seen each other. Although Shi Hua’s face didn’t show much emotion, her eyes were filled with joy.
Since they were little, their parents’ work meant they didn’t have much time to spend with them. The house often felt a bit empty with just her and her older sister.
Her older sister had always taken care of her in their daily lives, so Shi Hua was more emotionally dependent on Shi Qin. She had never been jealous of their difference in appearance; on the contrary, she was even more proud and full of admiration.
“What are you standing there for? Come here.”
Shi Qin smiled brightly at her, walked over, took Shi Hua’s hand, and led her to a nearby chair. She crouched down and gently pinched Shi Hua’s little face.
“You’ve lost weight. Is it because studying is too tiring? You haven’t been eating much.”
It was the same familiar tone. Shi Hua smiled shyly and replied happily, “I’ve been eating well. Maybe… I’ve just grown taller…”
Hearing this, Shi Qin smiled and patted her head. She stood up, pulled over a chair, and sat down, chatting with Shi Hua about recent family matters and asking about her situation at school.
At this mention, Shi Hua said a little embarrassedly, “Big Sis… when I called you just now, a teacher caught me…”
Hearing this, Shi Qin, as an older sister, couldn’t help but worry. “You’re not allowed to bring your phone to school. Don’t bring it next time. If you need anything, you can message me when you get home… Did the teacher say anything to you?”
Shi Hua shook her head. “No, the teacher is new. She’s not as strict as the dean… She just told me not to break the rules again.”
“Oh…” Shi Qin replied. Thinking of something, she subconsciously asked, “New?”
“Mhm, I hadn’t seen her before. She must be new.”
Shi Qin: “What’s her name?”
Shi Hua didn’t understand why her sister was so curious about this teacher, but she still answered truthfully, “Zhou… Zhou Jinsi. Teacher Zhou.”
The moment the name Zhou Jinsi was mentioned, the corners of Shi Qin’s mouth involuntarily curved up, the smile in her eyes impossible to hide. Seeing this, Shi Hua also grew curious and asked, “What’s wrong? Big Sis, do you know Teacher Zhou?”
It’s more than just ‘knowing.’
“We’re more than just acquaintances. We’re very, very close.”
Shi Hua was a bit confused. Very close?
Then why, when I introduced my sister to the teacher just now, did she not react at all?
Shi Qin reigned in her smile a little and asked again, “Is she still at the school?”
Shi Hua thought for a moment. “She hadn’t left when I did.”
Shi Qin’s smile bloomed again, as beautiful as a flower. She moved her face closer to Shi Hua’s, making her stare in a daze.
“Be a good girl and tell your big sister, where is your Teacher Zhou’s office?”
…
Zhou Jinsi had just checked her schedule. Her afternoon was fully booked with classes. Since her home was some distance from the school, she decided not to go back and instead stayed to grade the students’ weekly test papers.
“Hey, Teacher Zhou, you’re not going back either?”
Zhou Jinsi looked up and saw Shen Nan walk in with a cup of instant noodles.
She smiled faintly and replied, “Oh, right. I’m staying to grade some papers. You too?”
Shen Nan sat back down at her desk and looked at her computer screen, sighing mournfully. “Sigh, I have to prepare for a lesson, but something’s wrong with the PowerPoint. I can’t transfer the file to send it to the group leader.”
“Teacher Zhou, can you come and help me take a look?”
“Let me see.”
Zhou Jinsi readily agreed. She walked over to Shen Nan’s desk. Shen Nan moved her laptop and made some space for her, making it easier for her to see.
Although their interaction was completely normal, without a hint of intimacy, from Shi Qin’s perspective, Zhou Jinsi was leaning down, her head seemingly about to rest on Shen Nan’s shoulder.
Shi Qin bit her lower lip in dissatisfaction, a sour, uncomfortable feeling welling up inside her.
After asking Shi Hua, she had worried that Zhou Jinsi might have already left, so she had walked as fast as she could. But just as she neared the office, she saw through the window the “intimate” scene of her with someone else.
The two of them were chatting about something again, and Zhou Jinsi even pointed at the computer and smiled at Shen Nan. Shi Qin felt even more jealous. Unable to hold back, she knocked on the door and walked straight in.
“Is Teacher Zhou here?”
Zhou Jinsi and Shen Nan subconsciously looked toward Shi Qin, both of them startled.
Zhou Jinsi was surprised that Shi Qin would suddenly come looking for her, while Shen Nan was stunned by Shi Qin’s appearance and aura.
She looked closely. Although Shi Qin was wearing a mask, her highly recognizable almond-shaped eyes allowed Shen Nan to recognize her. Her eyes widened in astonishment, her mind going blank.
“I’m here.”
Zhou Jinsi stood up straight and looked at Shi Qin, bracing herself to reply, though she had no idea what she was here for.
Shen Nan still hadn’t recovered. Seeing Zhou Jinsi respond, her surprised and curious gaze darted back and forth between them. “You two…”
Before Zhou Jinsi could speak, Shi Qin cut in.
“Oh, Teacher Zhou is my ex…” Shi Qin stared directly at Zhou Jinsi, deliberately drawing out the last word, her tone dragging and teasing, clearly intending to torture her.
Zhou Jinsi’s expression changed. Her hand instantly clenched, her heart pounding uncontrollably.
What is she going to say? She wouldn’t…
