Chapter 21
The family meeting was held at the Gu Estate.
Ever since Gu Yixi had taken power, the decision to hold a family meeting was hers to make.
Today, she sat at the head of the large, square table.
She was still wearing a slate-blue cheongsam, the small-leaf red sandalwood beads wrapped around her wrist, giving her an air of refined aloofness.
The meeting room was silent. No one spoke, only the sound of Gu Yixi flipping through documents could be heard.
As usual, she first completed her strategic analysis, then instructed the butler to invite Grandma Gu.
The butler respectfully agreed and left. Only then did Gu Yixi casually put down the documents and say, “That was business. Everyone can relax now.”
At these words, the people present relaxed slightly, looking around, but still, no one dared to speak.
The most powerful person in their family was Gu Yixi. If she said one thing, they couldn’t say another. The only person at the table who was even remotely qualified to speak was Gu Yixi’s older sister, Gu Yishan—Gu Qing’s mother.
Gu Yishan had always been dissatisfied with her younger sister’s sudden return to the country. She had just listened carefully to Gu Yixi’s strategic plan and found it to be absolutely flawless, so she could only keep her mouth shut.
But she still wanted to say something. After all, before Gu Yixi returned, she was the one sitting at the head of the table.
“Yes, everyone should relax. We’re a family, after all. A family should be harmonious…”
Gu Yixi suddenly shot her a look.
Struck by this sudden glance, Gu Yishan felt a strange unease.
She hadn’t done anything to offend Gu Yixi recently, had she?
“Yes, a family should be harmonious. So what I’m about to say is a private matter,” Gu Yixi closed the folder, her expression calm. “Last weekend, there was a disturbance at our family’s event. I’m sure you all know about it.”
Gu Yishan’s expression changed slightly. She glanced at her daughter, Gu Qing, who was sitting in the middle, her eyes darting around, looking restless.
Gu Yishan suddenly remembered something and spoke first. “Yes, there was a bit of a disturbance at our event. But even the wisest can make a mistake. And the aftermath was handled properly. The media didn’t report anything else. It’s a small matter, a small matter…”
She used to sit at the head of the table, so she naturally picked up where Gu Yixi left off. Besides, her younger sister had always given her face.
However, this time, Gu Yixi cut her off. “You didn’t bother to handle the matter, so of course it’s a small matter.”
Everyone was shocked and looked at the woman at the head of the table in surprise.
CEO Gu had always given Gu Yishan face. Why was she acting like this today?
Gu Qing shrank in her chair, not saying a word.
Gu Yishan was taken aback. “Sister, what are you talking about?”
She stared at her younger sister—though she called her sister, there was a twenty-year age gap between them.
But in terms of presence, she felt suppressed.
“I cleaned up your daughter’s mess that night. But I only stepped in because I was concerned about our family’s reputation,” Gu Yixi’s tone was chilling, each word like a needle. “Let’s keep things separate.”
With that, she suddenly turned and pressed a button on the remote.
A photo appeared on the large screen behind the meeting room.
The photo showed a few items: a pheromone detector and some suppressors and drugs, all placed together.
Gu Yishan asked, “What are these things?”
Gu Yixi replied, “These are the things that ruined our event.”
“Is that so,” Gu Yishan said, forcing the words out. “Then it must be because some bad person brought these unsafe things and ruined our event.”
Gu Qing buried her head even lower, picking at her chair.
“Things are just things. They can’t harm people for no reason,” Gu Yixi’s tone grew even calmer. “What do you think, Gu Qing?”
Called out, Gu Qing jumped and quickly denied it. “Auntie, what are you talking about?”
“Weren’t you the one hosting the event that day?”
Seeing the situation turning against her, Gu Yishan immediately said, “Sister, you must have misremembered. I was the one hosting that day. I was in charge.”
“If you were in charge, how come I didn’t see you at the scene later?”
Gu Yishan fell silent. She had been in such a hurry because Gu Qing had confessed to her.
“You don’t need to speak, sister. I’m just asking her.”
Gu Qing’s face turned beet red, and the pent-up anger in her heart suddenly exploded. “Auntie, my mother wasn’t there at the time, so I was helping her watch over things. Just because something happened at the event, does that mean I caused it?”
“If something happened at a company under your jurisdiction, would that make you the culprit?”
Gu Qing’s mother, seeing that things were not going well, quickly signaled for her to sit down and be quiet, but Gu Qing was on a roll and even stood up.
“What’s going on, what’s all this?” Just then, a slightly aged voice came from the side.
Grandma Gu was helped into the meeting room. Seeing her great-granddaughter’s red eyes, she grew even more confused. “Qing-qing, tell Great-grandma, who bullied you?”
Gu Qing immediately started sobbing. “Great-grandma, you don’t know. There was a disturbance at our party that night, right? I was already scared to death by that crazy Alpha. I thought I could rest easy since Auntie stepped in to handle it. But I didn’t expect… I didn’t expect Auntie to frame me now!”
“What’s going on!” Grandma Gu immediately turned to Gu Yixi, demanding to know the whole story.
Gu Qing quickly spoke first.
“Yixi, is that so? Someone caused trouble, and you’re blaming Qing-qing?” Grandma Gu’s voice was tinged with anger.
But Gu Yixi just fiddled with the prayer beads in her hand. “I’m not blaming Gu Qing. It was indeed her fault.”
“Auntie, how can you say that, in front of Grandma…” Gu Qing started sobbing again.
“Since we’re in front of Grandma, we should be even more direct,” Gu Yixi lowered her eyes and raised her voice. “Everyone has seen the things in this photo. The IOP, the special suppressors—these are all things that only management can access.”
“But there are also some scattered pills next to them. After testing, it was found that they can be used to induce an Alpha’s rut.”
The red dot of the laser pointer swept over the pills. Gu Yixi’s tone was flat. “These pills seem to have been dropped accidentally. Were you too busy at the time, Qing-qing?”
Gu Qing trembled.
She had indeed been careless at the time. After telling her mom, Gu Yixi had gone down to calm everyone down. Seeing that the situation had calmed down, she had just casually cleaned up. How could she have known that Gu Yixi would settle the score later?
Grandma Gu said, “Even if these things are here, it doesn’t prove that Qing-qing did it! This is just physical evidence. Is there any witness?”
Gu Qing’s heart was in her throat. With Great-grandma backing her up, her aunt probably wouldn’t do anything to her, right?
“Grandma is right. You’ve reminded me,” Gu Yixi turned to look at Gu Qing. “Then, Qing-qing, do you remember ‘Nightingale,’ ‘Celine’…”
Gu Qing was startled and unexpectedly met Gu Yixi’s gaze.
These were not just random names; they were the codenames of the sycophantic friends she had sent to test Su Guan.
Grandma Gu didn’t understand. “What are these? Qing-qing, if you have any grievances, just say it…”
Gu Qing didn’t say a word, her freshly manicured nails digging into her flesh until it bled.
“Well, it seems she doesn’t want me to say it, Grandma,” Gu Yixi’s tone was calm.
Grandma Gu looked at Gu Qing. “Qing-qing, if you have any grievances, just tell Great-grandma!”
“No, no, I’m sorry. It was all my fault,” Gu Qing had already seen the two daggers her mother and mom were shooting at her with their eyes. And she was scared herself, so she could only admit it.
“Since you’ve admitted it, you must be punished. Do you understand?”
Gu Qing’s face turned the color of pig liver. She said reluctantly, “I understand.”
Even when it came to punishment, Gu Yixi could bypass her mother. She had grounded her for three months and restricted her spending!
Seriously, this is the modern era. Isn’t this kind of feudalism sick? The thought of only being able to video call her dozen or so little Alpha and Omega lovers in the future made Gu Qing even more upset.
But no one in their family could do anything about Gu Yixi! At this thought, Gu Qing could only glare at Gu Yixi resentfully and say nothing more.
Let’s just leave it at that for now!
Seeing her precious great-granddaughter suffer, Grandma Gu decided to get back at Gu Yixi. After a while, she started nagging Gu Yixi about her marriage again. “Yixi, speaking of which, you mentioned getting married last time. Have you chosen someone yet?”
Gu Qing’s mom was also holding in her anger and immediately fanned the flames. “That’s right, that’s right. Yixi has suffered so much in the past. No matter how strong her career is, she’ll still have to find an Alpha to rely on sooner or later!”
Usually, no matter how imposing Gu Yixi was, she would be reserved when it came to the topic of marriage, then change the subject and end the conversation.
But this time, Gu Yixi’s expression was extremely calm. “Yes, I have.”
Everyone’s jaws dropped. They only heard Gu Yixi continue, “I’m planning to get married.”
Everyone was shocked, buzzing with the desire to know who it was.
Grandma Gu also asked, but Gu Yixi only said two words: “It’s a secret.”
But everyone knew she wasn’t joking.
Gu Qing’s family of three looked at each other, exchanging a look of astonishment.
When they got home, Gu Qing’s mom, Kou Qian, finally spoke. “Who is she going to marry?”
Gu Yishan sneered. “Who knows which slutty Alpha it is. Maybe it’s not even a slutty Alpha! What if she’s like her own mother, going against nature and liking an Omega? Hey, speaking of which, is that unlucky A-mom of hers still alive?”
Kou Qian agreed. “Exactly, exactly. And keeping it a secret. It must be something shameful. Could it be that she’s lost her virginity?”
Gu Qing had originally agreed.
But hearing Kou Qian’s words, a thought suddenly struck her.
She remembered that day when she had knocked on the door of the top-floor presidential suite and had only smelled an extremely rich scent of roses.
But Kou Qian didn’t notice her daughter’s strange behavior. As she entered the house, she was still muttering, “Hmph, so ruthless. I’d like to see who this divine being she’s marrying is!”
