Chapter 10
Xu Ling cleared her throat and pulled her bathrobe tighter. “The moment she sees the cake, she’s probably just happy, because she knows it’s a surprise from Wen Xi. But then she quickly thinks of her parents celebrating her birthday in the past, and at that point, sadness probably takes up 70%. When she sees Wen Xi, the sadness is probably reduced to 30%?”
She asked, “Is that serious enough?”
The script had many blank spaces and wasn’t that detailed. Some filming details would only be generated the moment they started shooting.
Qin Cong’an said, “When Jian Yu makes a wish, she’ll think of her parents, right? So when she opens her eyes and sees Wen Xi, her first reaction should be to see her as family.”
Xu Ling nodded. “Right.”
When they filmed it, her gaze would need to be very expressive.
But this part was difficult for both of them to act. Jian Yu’s feelings were complicated, and Wen Xi’s were not calm either. She had no family and couldn’t really understand Jian Yu’s feelings, but she wanted to understand her, to make her wish come true, to make her happy.
“So…” Qin Cong’an asked, “don’t you think starting an intimate scene here is very abrupt?”
Xu Ling fell silent.
“Where in this scene do either of them have any intention of getting intimate with the other?”
Xu Ling had heard that Qin Cong’an would advocate for cutting some intimate scenes. So, this was the beginning of it, huh?
But they had already slept together several times. What was there to be shy about?
Xu Ling’s mind cleared considerably. She picked up her own script and studied it.
Although her first reaction was that Qin Cong’an was being picky, Xu Ling also knew she had a point. It really was unreasonable here.
When Jian Yu made a wish, she thought of her parents. When she opened her eyes and saw Wen Xi, she really did see her more as a family member.
And as for Wen Xi, she had always felt that she couldn’t cross any lines with Jian Yu. She even hated the part of herself that seemed to have strange thoughts about Jian Yu, and even suspected that she wasn’t normal.
Neither of them had any reason to get close to the other for anything related to lust.
The script was written very simply: [Blows out candles, they look at each other, embrace, kiss?]
There was a question mark next to “kiss,” probably because Chang Ning also felt it might not be appropriate.
Xu Ling: “How about this? No embrace. Jian Yu kisses Wen Xi on the cheek first, because she comes from that kind of warm family environment. But of course, Wen Xi isn’t used to it and reacts a bit strongly.”
Xu Ling: “Jian Yu thinks she’s strange and cheekily tries to tease her, but Wen Xi scolds her… Hmm, maybe they could have a small argument here? And then Jian Yu would understand.”
Qin Cong’an thought for a moment and nodded. “That seems feasible. During the argument, Wen Xi accidentally says something, and Jian Yu realizes her feelings for her aren’t simply those for a younger sister.”
“Jian Yu doesn’t really see Wen Xi as an older sister either. It’s just that her birthday is a special day, and she just wants family.”
“Mhm.” Qin Cong’an lowered her head and wrote something in the script. “It looks like they won’t go all the way on this day.”
Actually, Xu Ling thought so too, but she asked, “Why do I get the feeling that you don’t want to film this with me?”
Qin Cong’an looked up. “Where did you get that feeling?”
“Am I wrong?”
“It’s not a matter of wanting to or not. It’s just to make the plot development more reasonable.” Qin Cong’an lowered her head again. “Don’t you want to do a good job?”
Of course, Xu Ling wanted to do a good job too, but she just felt like her perfume had been wasted. Qin Cong’an hadn’t even given her a second glance.
Qin Cong’an was wearing a pair of comfortable long pants, her legs resting on the sofa, revealing a small section of her calf.
Xu Ling’s long fingers reached out and lightly brushed against that delicate calf a couple of times. “They chased someone all night and only celebrated her birthday the next day. They were both so tired.”
“Yes.”
“So, to show that post-all-nighter state, does that mean we can’t sleep tonight either?”
Qin Cong’an leaned in and caught her hand, her face so close to hers that her breath fanned across her cheek. “Are you sure?”
Xu Ling suddenly felt a little timid, as if she wasn’t so sure anymore. She saw her fingers intertwining with hers. She said, “It’s impossible to not sleep at all, but… I can’t just let you go back to your room to sleep now.”
Qin Cong’an’s hand rested on her chest, right over her heart. “When they were chasing someone, their heart rate was probably over 160. What can we do to get to that heart rate?”
Xu Ling could feel her heart pounding violently under her hand. Her voice was a little hoarse. “What do you think my heart rate is right now?”
“I don’t know.” Qin Cong’an looked at her. “But you smell good. This scent is very nice, and it suits you.”
Xu Ling could barely breathe. Forget 160, she was probably already past 180.
Xu Ling reached out and took off her glasses, then took the script she was still holding in her other hand and placed it on the table.
She straddled her, her hands on the back of her neck, her chest pressed against hers. She licked her lips and said, “I knew you’d like it.”
Without her glasses, Qin Cong’an’s vision was slightly blurry, but they were close enough that she could see her clearly, every single one of her expressions.
She wrapped her arms around her waist and asked, “What do you mean? You knew I’d like it, so you used this perfume?”
“That’s right.”
“Why?”
“Then are you going to answer my question from last time? Why did you ask someone for my WeChat? And that’s your side account. Why didn’t you just add me with your main account? That way, you wouldn’t have to ask anyone; you could just add me from the group chat.”
Qin Cong’an didn’t answer. Halfway through her sentence, she started nuzzling her neck, her lips brushing against her skin, making her voice tremble as she finished her words.
Soon, Xu Ling no longer cared about the answer to her question. All she knew was that Qin Cong’an was close to her, getting closer and closer.
Their bodies grew hotter and hotter, as if they could burn each other.
Xu Ling only felt pleasure, so much pleasure. She sucked and kissed every spot that made her heart rate quicken. Her heartbeat never calmed down, just wave after wave.
Several times, Xu Ling was on the verge of passing out, but she didn’t know if Qin Cong’an had really taken her “no sleep tonight” comment to heart, because she never let her go.
She didn’t know when she finally fell asleep. She only felt that in the midst of the rocking, her eyes were dazzled several times by the daylight breaking through the window.
A loud “bang bang bang” came from the door.
Xu Ling opened her eyes, her head splitting, but that way of knocking… it was Sister Huai!
She glanced at the person curled up in her arms. Oh no, I’m so screwed!
Xu Ling quickly threw on her clothes, pulled the blanket up over Qin Cong’an’s head, wrapping her up tightly, and then ran to open the door.
“Sister Huai!”
“You’re starting again, aren’t you? Not answering your phone!” Yi Huai’s brows were tightly knitted. “Good thing you’re in your own room today. Otherwise, believe me, I would have knocked on every single actor’s door.”
“…” The mere thought of that scene made Xu Ling feel like she was about to collapse.
“I was reading the script until late last night and slept like the dead. I didn’t hear the phone ring,” Xu Ling blurted out. It wasn’t a complete lie, after all. She had been having a deep discussion with the other lead.
Yi Huai glanced into the room, pulled her clothes, and leaned in to sniff. “What’s that smell?”
“Huh?” Xu Ling quickly pulled her clothes back. “S-sweat, I guess.”
“Why would you sweat in your sleep?” Yi Huai frowned. “And it’s not sweat. It’s a scent I’ve smelled before. What was it…?”
She fell into thought, feeling it was very familiar, but she couldn’t recall it at the moment.
“It’s-it’s just the hotel’s air freshener, haha!” Xu Ling laughed awkwardly. “Alright, Sister Huai, I need to get ready now.”
“Fine, I’ll wait for you by the elevator.”
Before closing the door, Xu Ling heard Yi Huai walk over and start talking to someone.
It was Lin Xinnuo’s voice. “Sister Huai, have you seen Sister An?”
“No, is she not in her room?”
“I don’t know. She hasn’t opened the door.”
Afraid that Yi Huai would come back, Xu Ling quickly closed and locked the door, then went to the bed to wake Qin Cong’an.
Qin Cong’an was awake but hadn’t gotten up. She was just staring blankly at the ceiling.
“Your assistant is already calling for you!”
“It’s fine.”
“What do you mean, it’s fine! Hurry up and get dressed and go out. What are we going to say later!”
Qin Cong’an sat up with a frown. “You’re so noisy. What do you mean, what are we going to say? Didn’t we just run lines all night?”
“…” That wasn’t wrong.
But when Xu Ling opened the door just now, she hadn’t told Yi Huai that Qin Cong’an was in her room. If they were just running lines, she would have just been honest about it. What was there to hide?
If Qin Cong’an said later that she had been in her room running lines all night, Yi Huai would definitely be suspicious!
“My body is so sore,” Qin Cong’an said, twisting her neck.
Still so leisurely! Xu Ling was about to die of anxiety. She walked over and asked, “Where is it sore?”
“Everywhere.”
Xu Ling knelt on the bed and started massaging her shoulders from behind.
Qin Cong’an’s hand reached back and rested on her leg. “Is your knee okay?”
“It’s fine, almost healed. And the bed is soft.” Xu Ling applied some pressure, moving from her shoulders down to her arms. “Why didn’t you ask about my knee last night?”
“Who could remember last night?”
Xu Ling’s face grew hot. Actually, she had forgotten about it herself. It barely hurt anymore, and there was hardly a mark.
After massaging her arms, she asked, “Is that better? Hurry up and get dressed.”
“Don’t rush me.” When Qin Cong’an first woke up, she wasn’t as cold. She was a little lazy, and her voice was a little husky. She was just like a little kitten.
A naked little kitten.
Xu Ling climbed off the bed, threw her clothes to her, and went into the bathroom to get ready. She saw her own reflection in the mirror. She couldn’t say she looked pale; in fact, she was quite rosy. But she couldn’t say she looked well-rested either.
She dawdled for a long time before coming out. Qin Cong’an had already left her room. Xu Ling let out a long sigh of relief.
But when Xu Ling went out and walked to the elevator, she was scared to death. She saw Qin Cong’an and her assistant, Lin Xinnuo, standing there with Yi Huai.
If she had known, she wouldn’t have dawdled.
The elevator arrived just then, and the four of them stepped inside.
Yi Huai asked Qin Cong’an, “You didn’t rest well either?”
“Mhm, today’s scene is important, so I studied it a little more.”
Xu Ling’s heart was beating so fast her chest hurt a little. But thankfully, she didn’t say that she had been “studying” in her room—a very in-depth study.
