Farming in the Apocalypse: My Assassin Wife is Super Gentle 3

Chapter 3: You!

Zhang Can’er looked up at Wan Feng and spoke with determination.

Wan Feng looked at her, silent for a long moment, but the faint anger in her eyes showed that she was currently very upset.

After taking a deep breath, she said, “What if some of them are injured? All it takes is a small scratch from one of those monsters, and that person will start to change in less than an hour. How dare you let them in?”

“Then I’ll check them one by one,” Zhang Can’er said sullenly, turning her face away.

“You!” Wan Feng looked at this person who was as stubborn as a mule and felt a sense of powerlessness for the first time.

This was also the first time she had been this angry. She didn’t know why Zhang Can’er could so easily provoke her emotions, but she was a person who followed her heart.

Ever since she was a child, her father had drilled into her ear that an assassin must remain calm and rational at all times.

But she couldn’t do it. She would do her best to do what she could, and what she couldn’t, she couldn’t control.

She had originally thought that since Zhang Can’er was alone, if the girl didn’t have any major flaws, she could choose to keep her by her side. She would save her if she could and take her to Starshine City as payment for staying at her house for these few days. Unfortunately, she had misjudged her this time.

A bleeding heart. In the apocalypse, those are the ones who die the fastest.

After that, both of them fell silent. The sky slowly darkened.

Wan Feng went downstairs once, swiftly bringing up the necessary supplies. Her footsteps were extremely light, almost inaudible.

Zhang Can’er sat on the bed and watched her leave and then return. This whole series of actions made very little noise.

Only now did she realize that Wan Feng’s skills were extraordinary, and her identity was likely extraordinary as well.

But she didn’t care about that. All she needed to know was that Wan Feng had saved her.

Wan Feng brought everything over: rice, flour, oil, various seasonings, and even some instant foods that Zhang Can’er occasionally craved—half a box of instant noodles and a few bags of snail rice noodles.

Wan Feng planned to eat something simple. She glanced back at Zhang Can’er and asked, “Are instant noodles okay?”

Zhang Can’er shook her head. “I’m not hungry yet. I’ll cook for myself when I am.”

Wan Feng nodded and said no more, proceeding to cook the noodles for herself.

Fortunately, Zhang Can’er’s house had a small electric cooking pot; otherwise, it would have been more troublesome.

However, it would be a problem once the water and electricity were cut off. But Wan Feng didn’t plan on staying for long, so she wasn’t worried for now.

After eating, Wan Feng lay down beside Zhang Can’er, looking quite comfortable.

Zhang Can’er glanced at the person beside her and whispered, “This is my bed.”

Wan Feng kept her eyes closed, as if she hadn’t heard.

Zhang Can’er turned to stare at her for a long while, but seeing no response, she repeated loudly, “This is my bed.”

Wan Feng opened her eyes, shot her a glance, and then closed them again. “I know.”

“You know and you’re still sleeping here? This is, after all, my private space. How can you just sleep here whenever you want?”

Wan Feng’s eyes snapped open, filled with impatience. A coldness slowly crept into them as she looked at Zhang Can’er and said icily, “Say one more word, and I’ll throw you out to feed those monsters!”

Zhang Can’er wisely shut her mouth and lay down with a wronged expression on her face.

The night passed quickly. Wan Feng opened her eyes just as the clock on her phone hit six.

Sensing the movement, Zhang Can’er also opened her eyes. She glanced at Wan Feng, who was getting up beside her. Her expression was still ice-cold, and judging by her furrowed brow, she probably hadn’t slept well either.

The roars outside hadn’t stopped all night. She herself had been drifting in and out of sleep. In the early morning, she felt extremely exhausted, not even wanting to get out of bed.

Wan Feng went to the bathroom on her own. After freshening up, she went downstairs and brought up a few large sweet potatoes. She planned to cook some sweet potato congee.

After plugging in the cooking pot, she sat in the chair, lost in thought. People would be arriving today. She was thinking about how to keep them out. Killing them…

Wan Feng turned her head to look at Zhang Can’er. Killing them would probably scare the little girl. And seeing how much she cared about those people, she would likely start to resent her.

She shook her head in frustration. She never used to care about such things; she didn’t know what was wrong with her now.

Zhang Can’er sat up in bed. The sky outside was a bit gloomy, and she worried it might rain. If it rained, the mountain paths would be difficult to walk on.

But then she suddenly smelled a sweet fragrance. It was the smell of food, and her stomach rumbled right on cue.

She glanced over at Wan Feng and saw her holding a bowl of congee and drinking from it. She subconsciously swallowed.

She hadn’t eaten much since yesterday; it was no wonder she was hungry this morning.

Getting out of bed, she walked to the bathroom, intending to grab her toothbrush to wash up, but she noticed it was a bit damp. Rubbing it with her hand left a streak of water on her skin.

Zhang Can’er stared at the water on her hand. In the end, she couldn’t hold it in. She stormed out of the bathroom, holding the toothbrush, and confronted Wan Feng.

“Don’t you have any basic courtesy? How can you just use a personal item like a toothbrush?” Zhang Can’er’s eyes were red with anger. She couldn’t understand how someone could be so shameless.

Wan Feng glanced at her, drank the last mouthful of congee, and without a word, walked past Zhang Can’er straight into the bathroom to wash the bowl.

Suppressing her anger, Zhang Can’er stared daggers at Wan Feng. She really, really hated it when people touched her things.

When Wan Feng came out, she didn’t even look at her. She put the bowl down and walked toward the bed. Since there was no immediate danger, she needed to rest as much as possible while it was safe.

Furious, Zhang Can’er walked over, intending to pull her up and argue her case. But before she could even touch her, she was thrown onto the bed, followed by a weight on her waist.

Wan Feng straddled Zhang Can’er’s waist, pinned her hands, leaned in close, and spoke in a cold voice, “Do you really think the Federation will come to save you? Phantom Star Village has no value, so the Federation doesn’t care if the people in this village live or die. Staying here is not a long-term solution. In a few days, after I’ve recovered my strength, I will leave. You should think about it carefully.”

After speaking, Wan Feng released her and lay down on the side to rest with her eyes closed.

But Zhang Can’er was stunned for a long time. She couldn’t believe the Federation would abandon them, but what Wan Feng said made a lot of sense. Phantom Star Village had indeed been very poor before, disposable to the Federation. But after she led everyone to plant medicinal herbs, the village had started to see some improvement.

At least the aunties and uncles could afford mobile phones and install internet with the money. Life was getting better bit by bit, and Phantom Star Village would have continued to improve. This apocalypse really came at the worst possible time.

Zhang Can’er was filled with worry, lying on the bed in a daze.

Just then, her phone started vibrating continuously, jolting her back to reality. She looked down at her phone, then glanced frantically out the window.

She saw a group of people standing in the mountain forest below. They waved silently at her when they saw her, smiles on all their faces.

Zhang Can’er hurried to the door, about to move the table, but a slender, fair hand stopped her.
