Chapter 89: City Lord Tang is Critically Ill
Zhang Can’er let out a breath in comfort. She looked at Xiao Feng and said, “Why did you have to come at night? Don’t you still have to guard the city?”
“Of course, it’s an emergency. City Lord Tang suddenly fell ill. Many doctors have seen her and said that her time is short. So we want Sister Can’er’s medicine to see if we can try our luck.”
Zhang Can’er found it a bit strange. If they needed medicine, they could have just sent someone to get it. Why did they have to invite the two of them over?
As if seeing her doubt, Xiao Feng said softly, “Sister Can’er and sister-in-law, come with me.”
The two of them followed behind Xiao Feng and the others. After going upstairs, they found themselves in a wide corridor. At the end was the City Lord’s master bedroom.
After the group entered, Xiao Huan was holding Tang Dongyun and feeding her medicine, while Shen Fanmeng was assisting on the side.
Xiao Huan did not look at them, the worry on her face was obvious, but she was just silent and did not speak.
Tang Dongyun had no energy to care about them at all, so only Shen Fanmeng walked over, her expression also a bit anxious.
“Miss Zhang, I heard that your medicine can cure diseases, so I asked Xiao Feng to invite you over.”
Zhang Can’er was a little puzzled. “If you need medicine, you could have just sent someone to get it from me. There’s no need to invite me, right? Do you have something to say?”
Shen Fanmeng’s face suddenly turned very dark. She nodded, then turned to look at Tang Dongyun on the bed. “We have now confirmed that the wizards are the culprits behind the apocalypse. But we haven’t found the wizard leader, nor do we know the reason for their actions.
“Dongyun’s father was the wizard master of the Starshine Federation. Just last night, he was murdered in his home. And his wizard members also disappeared overnight. We have searched every corner of the main city and the military base, but there is no trace at all, as if they had disappeared into thin air.”
After hearing this, Zhang Can’er and Wan Feng exchanged a look, both knowing that there might be something else hidden in this matter.
The status of wizards in the Starshine Federation was still very high. Although there were few places where wizards could be used now, they would still be used when holding any large-scale events or ceremonies.
Although Zhang Can’er lived in a small village, wizards were, after all, the former masters of this planet. So no matter how remote the place, they would have heard stories about wizards, saying how powerful wizards were in the past.
Zhang Can’er did not ask much. Since Shen Fanmeng and Xiao Huan had told her and Wan Feng about this matter, they must have some idea.
So she didn’t say much. She took out a Healing Bean from the warehouse of the Spirit Field Space and handed it to Shen Fanmeng.
“I’ve been upgraded, so this medicine has also been upgraded. You can only eat one a day. I don’t know what the consequences will be if you eat it, so for now, just eat one.”
Because the Healing Bean looked very small, Zhang Can’er was afraid that Shen Fanmeng would ask for more, so she explained.
“Okay, thank you.”
Zhang Can’er and Wan Feng followed Shen Fanmeng to the bedside.
Looking at the pale and bloodless person on the bed, Zhang Can’er asked, “What did the doctor diagnose?”
After giving the medicine to Xiao Huan, Shen Fanmeng replied, “The doctor said that the shock was too great, which aggravated her previous stomach problem, and it suddenly turned into stomach atrophy.”
“Stomach atrophy?” Zhang Can’er was a little surprised. This disease, simply put, was excessive damage to the stomach. Although it didn’t sound like a serious illness, no one could cure this disease. With the current medical level, it could only delay the symptoms and allow the patient to eat something.
“Alas… let’s see if your medicine is useful,” Shen Fanmeng said, sitting on the chair next to her, her expression grim.
Zhang Can’er was actually a little worried in her heart. After all, although her Healing Bean could cure diseases, she was also afraid that some other problems would arise.
Xiao Huan had already fed the medicine, but Tang Dongyun had no reaction. She was still lying on the bed, looking at the ceiling, her expression dull, like a living dead person.
Zhang Can’er felt that the most important thing now, besides treating the illness, was to help Tang Dongyun get over the grief of losing her father. If this continued, no matter how good the medicine was, it would not be able to cure her.
“Captain Xiao, you should try to persuade City Lord Tang more,” Xiao Feng said.
Xiao Huan moved her head, looked at Xiao Feng, and sighed.
“Okay, I will. There’s nothing else here. You can leave now. I’ll see you off.”
With that, she was about to stand up, but her body swayed and she looked like she was about to fall. Fortunately, Shen Fanmeng supported her.
“I’ll see them off. You get some rest.”
Shen Fanmeng led them downstairs. When they reached the door, she looked at Zhang Can’er and said, “Thank you for today, Miss Zhang. We will ask a doctor to take a look later.”
Zhang Can’er shook her head. “Don’t say thank you. I didn’t help much.”
“That medicine is more precious than anything now. How is that not helping? But I have one more thing to ask for your help.”
Shen Fanmeng’s expression was heavy, and she only said half of what she wanted to say.
Hearing this, Xiao Feng was not happy. “City Lord Shen, we’ve already agreed. You can’t go back on your word.”
Shen Fanmeng glanced at them and retorted, “Do you think that with your current strength, you can kill a Transmutant?”
“Then can Sister Can’er do it? This is a suicide mission. Why add more people!” Xiao Feng also argued forcefully, not giving in at all.
“But she’s the only gold-level ability user. Why can’t we give it a try? What if?”
Zhang Can’er looked at the two of them arguing with red eyes, hesitated for a moment, and then said, “Stop arguing. Whether I go or not, I have to agree.”
Xiao Feng was instantly speechless. She said with some worry, “Sister Can’er, don’t agree to them. We’ll go. At worst, it’s just death.”
“What nonsense are you talking about? Do you think I can just watch you die? Xiao Hao’s death was already unbearable for me. Do you want to provoke me again?”
The more Zhang Can’er spoke, the angrier she became. Seeing Xiao Feng’s look of seeing death as a homecoming, she became even more angry.
“Sister Can’er, we can’t just watch you go to your death either,” Xiao Li said with red eyes.
“How am I going to my death? Besides, I haven’t agreed yet. What are you in a hurry for?”
Xiao Feng muttered, “Don’t I know you?”
Zhang Can’er squinted her eyes and looked at Xiao Feng. Xiao Feng shrank back behind Xiao An with some fear.
Afterward, Zhang Can’er and Wan Feng were taken to the conference room by Shen Fanmeng to talk about the Transmutant.
It turned out that the Federation’s drone had captured images of the inside of Starshine City. A Transmutant had already formed and was now heading toward the main city. If it was not stopped, this only safe place for humanity would also be gone.
But Zhang Can’er suddenly thought of something. “Doesn’t the Federation have a Sky Island? Why don’t they activate it?”
Shen Fanmeng was stunned for a moment, glanced at Wan Feng, and then sighed. “The Sky Island has already been controlled by the Deputy Federation Lord. We don’t know what the situation is now. And now is not the time for a civil war. Our military strength can’t support such a consumption.”
“Has Xiao Huan’s power been usurped?” Wan Feng suddenly spoke.
