“What plan does he have? Who is he trying to save?”
“Save Xia Zhengyun.”
Song Wenwei’s mind raced. How did Xia Zhengyun get dragged into this again? It seemed like only one person could be connected to her.
“Could it be that Xia Yubing did something…?”
Lu Nan nodded. “You’re really smart.”
“Do you remember when we got stuck in traffic on our way home last night? That was her—unable to have what she wanted, so she drove up, intercepted Xia Zhengyun, and kidnapped her. Mo Zhiting said he wants to save her, but to do that, he has to kidnap me to lure Xia Yubing out.”
“What? All this roundabout stuff—how did you get tangled up with them again?”
Song Wenwei recalled Xia Yubing’s inexplicable hostility toward Lu Nan on the variety show. The more she heard, the more chaotic it all seemed.
“I didn’t tangle myself up with them!” Lu Nan looked on the verge of tears as she shook Song Wenwei’s hand vigorously. “You’re slandering me! I was just waiting for you downstairs all proper-like, and instead of waiting for you, I got kidnapped…”
Song Wenwei naturally pulled her into an embrace and comforted her. “Alright, alright. I know you’ve suffered. Let’s go home and make it up to you properly.”
If she didn’t soothe her now, her hand was going to get shaken right off. At this point, Song Wenwei truly believed Lu Nan was fine—her grip strength was as strong as ever.
What shaking hands in coquetry? It was clearly grinding her bones.
Lu Nan inwardly rejoiced. Women who act coquettishly make the wife’s soul float~
The ancient sayings did not deceive her.
Yin Hua, following behind the two, shook her head emphatically. Actions spoke louder than words.
“Do you think Xia Yubing will show up?” Song Wenwei asked aloud beside her.
She had only met these people on the variety show, where they could all put on true or false facades.
Take Mo Zhiting, for example—he acted all proper on the show, but off it, he silently kidnapped someone without a word.
Lu Nan shook her head. “I don’t know. According to what Mo Zhiting told me, it feels like Xia Yubing might come, or she might not. I’m not entirely sure.”
Yin Hua, walking behind them, suddenly heard the familiar name and froze for a moment.
This name… where have I heard it before?
In the car.
It was she who had confirmed the address at the start of their journey. This was originally a dangerous, abandoned building deep in the mountains and old forests after the factory shut down. Someone had even knocked parts of it down, but it was the Xia Family who reinforced it.
“Then she…”
Yin Hua stepped forward to walk abreast of them and suddenly interrupted. “Wait, the Xia Yubing you’re talking about—isn’t she the daughter of the Xia Corporation, the heir apparent?”
“Yeah, that’s her.” Lu Nan nodded, looking at her puzzled. “What’s wrong? Why do you look like that?”
“That’s bad.” The words slipped out of Yin Hua’s mouth as realization struck like lightning. “This place was reinforced by Xia Yubing—it’s basically her turf. What you said doesn’t add up. Mo Zhiting is opposing her? If he wants to save someone, why choose here?”
Exactly. Mo Zhiting’s plan sounded logical at first, but upon closer inspection, it was full of holes.
To save Xia Zhengyun by kidnapping her, at least pick somewhere hard to find—that way, he’d buy time to rescue her. But choosing the enemy’s home turf was basically inviting them to come.
Lu Nan felt like half of what he said was made up on the spot to trap her, and the other half might be true. Half-truths were the easiest to believe.
If it had just been her alone, it would’ve been fine—even if tricked, someone would have her back. But now a whole group was here, all lured by Mo Zhiting. They had to be cautious.
“You’re right. He chose this place for some other purpose. Let’s hurry and discuss it with Second Sis, and figure out how to question Mo Zhiting.”
Lu Nan pulled Song Wenwei along, quickening her pace. “That guy will stop at nothing to save Xia Zhengyun. We can’t let him drag us down.”
Actually, that wasn’t entirely accurate either. Lu Nan couldn’t quite figure out if Mo Zhiting really wanted to save anyone. She worried he kidnapped her to drag Second Sis’s and Big Bro’s companies into conflict with the Mo family.
Lu Nan’s thoughts spiraled further, so she simply stopped overthinking it.
This mess was getting more and more chaotic. No point trying to unravel it.
The three walked down the long corridor, where the night wind blew through, chilling Lu Nan to the bone.
