Chapter 98: Question
Su Yu was stunned for a moment. Gu Zhi’s question was so sudden, it caught him off guard. He opened his mouth slightly and looked at the full of gossip in Gu Zhi’s eyes. He shrugged helplessly and smiled. “Not really. I was too immature back then. I didn’t think much about those things.”
“Really?” Gu Zhi blinked, a hint of suspicion in her eyes. She clearly didn’t believe him, thinking it was a lie to brush her off. The reason was that it was impossible for a boy not to have a crush on a girl in his childhood.
“Really. Why would I lie to you about this?” Su Yu scratched his head and joked, “Since I don’t have one, why don’t you find one for me, sister?”
“Haha, you wish.”
Gu Zhi’s eyes crinkled, and she rolled her eyes at Su Yu coquettishly, her tone casual. “There are so many pretty girls at Qingchuan University. Who can you blame if you’re not capable? But if Xiao Yu finds a girl he likes in the future…”
Gu Zhi suddenly paused. She squinted at Su Yu, a dark mist swirling in her eyes. The sharpness that flashed in her eyes was so fast that Su Yu thought it was his imagination. Just as he was about to confirm and look at Gu Zhi again, he saw that her eyes were filled with a winding smile, without a trace of gloom.
Gu Zhi smiled and reached out with her finger, gently tapping Su Yu’s nose, her eyes full of gentleness. “Bring her to me. I’ll check her out for you. It’s a good thing that Xiao Yu has grown up. I’m happy for you.”
“Mm-hmm, that would be great if I have the chance.”
Su Yu immediately smiled and agreed, although there wasn’t much seriousness in his words. But he was still a little touched. He hadn’t expected that the first person to be so concerned about these things for him would be a sister who was not related to him by blood. He couldn’t help but feel that he was really lucky. Rebirth was already a luck that was different from ordinary people. He could even find this sister again, whom he had once forgotten in the river of memory.
“Hehe, Xiao Yu is so good.”
Gu Zhi held Su Yu tighter in her arms. She was tall, and her cheek could rest on Su Yu’s shoulder with just a slight tilt. The sadness in her eyes seemed to have slowly faded away. Her joyful expression was as if she was enjoying the quiet moment.
“Let me ask you one more question.” Gu Zhi’s slender fingers rested on Su Yu’s chest, drawing a tickling circle. Her tone was like a little girl acting spoiled, yet she was very much looking forward to Su Yu’s answer. “If I get married in the future and marry another man… will you be sad to let me go, Xiao Yu?”
“Huh? I… are you joking with me, sister?”
“Why do you ask? Isn’t this question enough? I want to know what Xiao Yu thinks.”
Gu Zhi stared at Su Yu quietly. She squinted her eyes slightly, as if she were a jackal sizing up its prey, whether it could bite through its throat in one go. Su Yu felt uncomfortable under her gaze. He didn’t understand why Gu Zhi was so insistent on this question. He couldn’t figure out the reason behind it, so he had to answer honestly based on his feelings. “If that man is very reliable…”
“Alright, I’m just kidding. I’m just teasing you.” Gu Zhi suddenly interrupted Su Yu, as if she didn’t want to hear the rest of his words. She smiled slightly. “I’m not considering these things for the time being. There’s still a long time. No rush…”
“Alright, I almost forgot we still have to buy things. I’m running out of many daily necessities at home. I also need to buy some things for Xiao Yu to use overnight. Although they are men’s clothes, they are still my clothes after all. They are a bit unsuitable. I need to get a suitable set of pajamas.”
Gu Zhi pinched Su Yu’s earlobe, her eyes doting. “What color does Xiao Yu like? Gray? But I think a brighter color would suit Xiao Yu better.”
“This… do I have to stay overnight at your place again, sister? I was drunk last time, and I feel like I was a lot of trouble for you to take care of.”
Gu Zhi’s jumping thoughts made Su Yu a little overwhelmed. One second she was asking him about her marriage, and the next second it was about his taste in clothes.
“How could you be? I wish you could stay longer.” Gu Zhi’s eyes suddenly lit up, and she enthusiastically suggested, “Why don’t you move out of the school, Xiao Yu? You can stay at my place.”
“This… I think I’ll pass. It’s not convenient for classes. I still prefer to be around more people. The dorm is lively.”
“Alright then. What a pity.”
Gu Zhi sighed in regret and ruffled Su Yu’s hair in a huff, messing it up. “But you still need to prepare your clothes. You can always spare some time to come and see me on the weekends, right? If you don’t even agree to this, then I’ll really get angry.”
“I can agree to that. I’ll definitely go to your place again when I have time, and I’ll also see Xiao Chan. But… I’m not drinking anymore.”
“Good… as long as you can come, I’ll be very happy.”
“Then let’s hurry. Wait… where is this?”
Su Yu was pulled by Gu Zhi into the main entrance of the department store in the basement. He glanced around casually, and the smile on his face suddenly froze. He suddenly realized that this seemed to be… the place where An Zhi had met Xia Qian Ge last time.
He should have realized it earlier, but Gu Zhi’s one question after another had made him overwhelmed. Those meaningful or meaningless questions had made him really confused.
The underground supermarket was crowded, the air thick and stuffy, and it was noisy and chaotic everywhere. He felt as if he had fallen into an atmosphere created by Gu Zhi, so much so that he hadn’t even noticed such an obvious thing. Unconsciously, he had already arrived at the entrance of the supermarket. But…
“Hmm? Xiao Yu? What’s wrong… are you not feeling well somewhere?”
Su Yu came back to his senses, and his vision was filled with Gu Zhi’s concerned expression. Her eyes were full of sincerity and worry. He took two steps back, and the thoughts in his heart melted away like ice and snow. He shook his head and forced a smile. “Nothing. It’s probably just a bit stuffy here.”
“Oh, okay. Then let’s go. We still have a lot of things to buy.”
Gu Zhi continued to want to put her arm around Su Yu’s shoulder, but he shook his head and refused. Su Yu smiled and said, “It feels a bit hot down here. Let’s talk when we get up.”
“Alright then. If Xiao Yu is really not feeling well, we don’t have to be in such a hurry.”
Gu Zhi let go of Su Yu’s shoulder understandingly and instead asked about Su Yu’s condition with great concern. Her warm hand rested on Su Yu’s forehead. She sighed in relief and said with a smile, “It shouldn’t be a fever. It’s probably just chest tightness caused by the poor air.”
“Yeah, we’ll just buy the things quickly and go up.”
Su Yu nodded and walked into the supermarket first. He didn’t think that Xia Qian Ge would happen to be working part-time here on a weekday, when she had no class in the afternoon, and that they would happen to meet in the crowded crowd.
If all of this really happened, perhaps it would be more believable to explain it as a deliberately arranged result. This thought eased his stuffy breathing and completely freed him from those endless and baseless self-doubts.
