Chapter 33
The first script Bo Muyu worked on after joining Hongsheng was God of War, but she had already written several movie scripts during her university years.
Whenever she had a new idea, she would tell Lin Chuwan, Su Man, and her good friend since high school, Yang Shuhan, one by one.
Yang Shuhan loved anime and was never interested in the serious content of Bo Muyu’s scripts. After telling her a few times, Bo Muyu gave up on her.
Lin Chuwan was the best listener. From the small things in life to difficult decisions, and even the inspirations that popped into Bo Muyu’s head while she was eating, whatever Bo Muyu told her, she would listen attentively and not miss a word. But Bo Muyu could feel that Lin Chuwan was not interested most of the time. What kept her listening was her long-standing good upbringing and their friendship.
The person who had the most to talk about with Bo Muyu regarding scriptwriting was Su Man. She herself was the daughter of a famous director and had been influenced by Su Zhengyang as she grew up, developing a great interest in movies. So sometimes when Bo Muyu discussed her ideas with her, she could always get very engrossed in the conversation.
When she heard that Su Man wanted to produce Dust World, a script she had written in university, Bo Muyu was not too surprised. Because she had shown it to Su Man after she had finished writing it, and Su Man had praised her at the time.
“President Su,” Bo Muyu pondered for a moment before looking up. “The overall tone of Dust World is quite somber. Perhaps not many young people would like to watch it.”
Su Man said leisurely, “You were only nineteen when you wrote this script. The fact that you could create it means you like it, so how can you say that not many young people would like to watch it? Perhaps there are many young people like you. At least, I’m one of them.”
After a while, Bo Muyu nodded and said, “As long as you’ve considered it.”
Su Man picked up the script on the table and flipped through it, saying in a slightly suggestive tone, “But isn’t the protagonist a bit too young? For someone with such a gloomy mind, if the age is too young, it might be a bit inconsistent. I think, would it be better to choose a slightly more mature actor to play the role?”
At the mention of the script’s content, Bo Muyu immediately sat up straight, her expression serious. “No, the protagonist’s heavy heart is entirely due to her experiences. What a person’s character ultimately becomes is not determined by time, but by experience. If there is only time and no experience, then the protagonist’s life would not be as extraordinary as it is now.”
There was not a trace of a smile on her face, and the temperature in her eyes instantly dropped. Her whole person suddenly exuded a very solemn aura.
Su Man was stunned for a moment, then raised her hand to cover the corner of her upturned mouth.
After a few seconds, Su Man managed to maintain a steady tone. “Okay, I know.”
Bo Muyu let out a long sigh, her voice a little fainter. “There won’t be any problems if you shoot according to my script. No changes are needed.”
Su Man nodded and said to her with a serious expression, “Then we’ll start this project after we finish filming God of War. We can discuss any problems then.”
Bo Muyu agreed. After sitting for a while, it was time to get off work. She went downstairs with Su Man.
Seeing that Bo Muyu was also going to the basement, Su Man asked curiously, “Xiaoyu, why are you going to the parking lot today? Did you drive?”
“No,” Bo Muyu had no intention of hiding it. “Auntie Yin sent me a message saying she’s coming to pick me up, so I’m going to the parking lot.”
Bo Muyu would not take the initiative to mention Jiang Chenyin to Su Man, but she had no intention of deliberately hiding anything. She was very familiar with Jiang Chenyin. If someone asked, she would tell the truth.
As soon as Su Man heard Jiang Chenyin’s name, the feelings from the past few days surfaced in her mind, and at the same time, a little more doubt arose. Bo Muyu’s dependence on Jiang Chenyin could be said to be a habit cultivated since childhood, but for Jiang Chenyin to dote on Bo Muyu so much was indeed rare.
She had never seen an elder dote on a friend’s child so much. If she were to tell an outsider that Jiang Chenyin and Bo Muyu were mother and daughter, they would probably believe it.
However, since Bo Muyu had been dependent on Jiang Chenyin since she was a child, then on the other hand, Jiang Chenyin’s doting on Bo Muyu was also a habit that had been maintained for many years. This was even more understandable.
Thinking of this, Su Man shook her head and smiled, asking, “Is President Jiang’s home on the way for you? I’ve seen her coming to pick you up a lot last month.”
A smile appeared on Bo Muyu’s lips. “It’s not on the way. I was living with her last month, so she would come and pick me up to go back together. Today, she’s going to my house for dinner, but in a few days, it will be on the way.”
“You’re living together?” Su Man’s brow twitched, and she frowned at Bo Muyu.
Why was it that every time she had just persuaded herself to accept the intimacy between Bo Muyu and Jiang Chenyin, she would be hit with an even more powerful blow from Bo Muyu?
“Mmm, we lived together last month,” Bo Muyu’s smile widened. “And we’re about to start this month.”
And this time, there was no time limit. Just the thought of it made her heart beat so fast she could hardly suppress it. It was as if the finish line on a racetrack that had always been out of sight had finally come into view. All that was left was a final sprint to complete the task.
No, this wasn’t completing the task. She had clearly achieved her goal, but it seemed something was still missing. What she wanted was not just to live together. She was not a child anymore, so what could satisfy her before was not enough now.
The elevator doors opened, and the two of them walked out.
Su Man couldn’t help but ask, “Are you going to be living with her all this month?”
“Mmm, not just this month. To be precise, it should be starting from this month,” Bo Muyu said, her gaze scanning the parking lot.
“Then will President Jiang come to pick you up every day?”
In a corner not far away was a familiar figure. Bo Muyu’s lips curved. “I don’t eat out much for dinner, so as long as she doesn’t have any social engagements, she will.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Jiang Chenyin called out softly, “Muyu, over here.”
Bo Muyu went to her side. “Auntie Yin, you’re so early.”
Jiang Chenyin chuckled and stroked Bo Muyu’s hair. “Because I get off work twenty minutes earlier than you.” She paused, then turned to Su Man. “Miss Su.”
“President Jiang, we meet again,” Su Man said with a polite smile.
“Yes, it’s all because of this…” Jiang Chenyin drew out her words, then softened her tone, “big screenwriter. If it weren’t for our big screenwriter, Miss Su and I probably wouldn’t have had the chance to meet.”
Su Man smiled. “Yes, it’s all thanks to this big screenwriter who always creates opportunities for us to meet.”
She had to admit that Jiang Chenyin and Bo Muyu really had a kind of closeness that could only be shown after many years, and this feeling did not make others feel repulsed. Even though she had felt before that the two of them were too close, and that it was not appropriate for someone of Bo Muyu’s age to be so dependent on an elder, at this moment, she felt that it was no big deal.
Bo Muyu frowned. “You two are actually ganging up on me to make fun of me.”
Jiang Chenyin smiled without a word. Su Man was still smiling. “I wouldn’t dare, I wouldn’t dare.”
Jiang Chenyin said politely, “Alright, then we’ll be leaving now. Miss Su, you should go back too.”
Bo Muyu said her goodbyes, “Senior, then we’ll be leaving.”
Su Man nodded and then went to get her car.
It was the peak of rush hour. After Jiang Chenyin’s car turned out of the Hongsheng parking lot, the first intersection was so congested that they could only move at a snail’s pace.
After being forced to brake again, Jiang Chenyin said casually, “Muyu, I seem to see you with Miss Su a lot. Are you two not avoiding it at the company anymore?” After she said it, she felt something was not right and added, “I mean your friendship. I remember you mentioned to me before that you wanted to avoid unnecessary gossip.”
Bo Muyu turned to look at her. “It’s not that we’re not avoiding it, but we’re not deliberately acting like strangers like before. Because Senior told me a while ago that ability and gossip are symbiotic. If you have enough ability, there will naturally come a day when you can completely defeat the gossip. Later, I thought about it. If the ability I have is not enough to defeat these criticisms, then what I have now should indeed attract gossip.”
Jiang Chenyin looked straight ahead and nodded in approval as she listened to Bo Muyu. “She’s right. The advantages you have will inevitably attract controversy. What you need to do now is to further consolidate your achievements on your existing foundation, so that when others want to attack you, they will have to think carefully about whether they can defeat you.”
When she spoke to Bo Muyu about how to conduct herself, she did not have the air of an elder, but more like a friend who was sharing her own views. Her eyes were gentle, and every word, every sentence was spoken in a soft, low voice. If the distance were closer, those words would be like willow leaves that could stir ripples on a calm lake.
“I know,” Bo Muyu said, her lips curving as she looked at her. “I remember everything Senior said, and I also remember what Auntie Yin said.”
Just then, the traffic moved forward a little. Jiang Chenyin also started the car and moved forward slowly before stopping. Then she glanced at Bo Muyu and chuckled softly, “In the future, when Miss Su tells you these things, don’t forget to thank her. Although you haven’t known each other for a long time, she doesn’t actually have to explain these principles to you in such detail. Do you understand?”
Bo Muyu’s hands clutched the seatbelt, and she replied softly, “Mmm, I know.”
Jiang Chenyin knew that she and Su Man were not very familiar, so this kind of etiquette was still necessary to some extent.
Bo Muyu was silent for a while, then a thought suddenly occurred to her, and she asked, “Auntie Yin, do we have to be like this too?”
“Hmm? Like what?” Jiang Chenyin didn’t react for a moment.
Bo Muyu couldn’t help but smile, a sharp corner of her cute little canine teeth showing. “Like when you tell me things that will be helpful for my future, and then I have to thank you.”
Her voice was soft, her tone light, as if she were asking a serious question, but there was a hint of a smile in her words. When she smiled like this, it was as if a layer of thin snow on the ground was welcoming a touch of spring.
A smile bloomed in Jiang Chenyin’s eyes. She reached out to stroke the top of her hair and said softly, “Silly girl, we don’t need to.”
The traffic finally started to flow forward, and Jiang Chenyin’s car moved with it.
The hand that had been stroking Bo Muyu’s hair had already been withdrawn, and she was focused on driving. The smile on Bo Muyu’s lips faded, but her gaze remained stubbornly on her gentle side profile.
They would never grow distant. Bo Muyu inexplicably felt this.
