Chapter 41
Bo Muyu sent a WeChat message to Jiang Chenyin, saying she wouldn’t be back for dinner as she had to discuss work with Su Man.
It just so happened that Lan Yuxin was free and said she wanted to see Jiang Chenyin, so Jiang Chenyin invited her over.
Outside the gym, Lan Yuxin leaned against the doorframe with her arms crossed, her eyes darting around.
“Teacher Jiang, do you think I should find someone to date?”
Jiang Chenyin was doing stretching exercises, her legs straight, bending at the waist to touch the ground with her hands as much as possible, holding the position.
Seeing that she didn’t answer, Lan Yuxin reached out and knocked on the door. “Teacher Jiang, President Jiang, did you hear me?”
“I heard you,” Jiang Chenyin said, her eyes closed, her voice muffled. “Just think about it yourself. You don’t need to ask me.”
Lan Yuxin shot her a look. “You’re overthinking it. I just wanted to hear what you think. I have no intention of following your ideas.”
Jiang Chenyin estimated that the time was up, straightened up, and let out a long sigh, her breath coming in light pants. “Then why are you asking me? Just do what you want to do.”
A bead of sweat trickled down the side of her face. Her upper body, clad only in a sports bra, was covered in a thin layer of sweat. But the most eye-catching thing was the sweat trickling down the lines of her abdomen, creating a kind of beauty that was hard to put into words.
Lan Yuxin marveled inwardly. So sexy and beautiful.
Jiang Chenyin asked as she wiped the sweat with a towel, “What time is it?”
Lan Yuxin looked down at her watch. “Almost seven.”
“One last set and I’m done,” Jiang Chenyin said, putting the towel down and lying on the yoga mat, her upper body slightly raised, supported by her elbows.
Lan Yuxin touche her own very slim but ab-less stomach and sighed, “Your little sister here has a pretty good figure too, just not as beastly as yours… slim when dressed, abs when undressed. A figure like yours would be a real waste on some beefy, pot-bellied rich second-generation heir.”
Jiang Chenyin was using her abdominal strength to lift her legs, her breathing becoming shorter and more labored. Hearing what Lan Yuxin said, she couldn’t help but chuckle, “Then what do you think would be a good match?”
Lan Yuxin let out a “tsk,” walked into the gym, and lectured her in a knowing manner, “Of course, it should be the well-dressed, ‘slim when dressed, muscular when undressed’ type of refined scoundrel, or a weak little puppy. That’s the most suitable.”
“Are you implying that I’m also a refined scoundrel with that first sentence?” Jiang Chenyin couldn’t help but laugh, relaxing and lying back on the yoga mat.
“How kind do you think you are?” Lan Yuxin scoffed. “But speaking of which, I personally think you with an older man is not pleasing to the eye at all. A little puppy is more suitable for you.”
“Pfft…” Jiang Chenyin clutched her stomach and sat up, laughing. “You’ve already planned it all out for me, haven’t you?”
Lan Yuxin sat on the treadmill and shot her a mocking look. “Forget it. Your big sister here hasn’t found anyone yet. Seriously, I want to find someone to settle down with, but I also want to play around for another two years. You know that young actor I just signed? He’s so tender he’s practically dripping water, and he doesn’t have a girlfriend. What a great opportunity.”
Jiang Chenyin shook her head and smiled. “Are you sure he doesn’t have a girlfriend?”
“Of course!” Lan Yuxin slapped the treadmill’s belt, then gave Jiang Chenyin a flirtatious wink. “Even if he does, isn’t a woman like me, with both wealth and looks, more charming than those pure little sisters?”
“Ahem… wait a minute…” Jiang Chenyin’s brow tightened. “Don’t play this kind of…”
“Oh, I know. I was just saying,” Lan Yuxin waved her hand at her. “I’m not interested in being the other woman. My morals are still very upright.”
Jiang Chenyin turned her head away helplessly, not wanting to look at Lan Yuxin.
Just then, the faint sound of Bo Muyu’s voice came from the hallway, “Auntie Yin, I’m back.” Lan Yuxin’s face immediately lit up.
“The little one is back?”
The corner of Jiang Chenyin’s lips curved up. “Mmm, you can go down to the living room with her. I’ll be down after I take a shower.”
Lan Yuxin pursed her lips, then licked them seductively, her eyes shining as she stood up. “Then I’ll go and savor the tender flesh first.”
Her appearance suddenly gave Jiang Chenyin a headache. “Behave yourself. Don’t talk nonsense with her.”
“Oh, it’s fine…” Lan Yuxin said as she walked out.
Jiang Chenyin frowned. “Yuxin!”
“Alright, I know!” Lan Yuxin called back from the hallway.
She walked down and happened to run into Bo Muyu, who was coming up to the third floor.
Lan Yuxin flicked her hair and raised an eyebrow. “Hi, little one.”
“Sister Lan?” Bo Muyu looked behind her. “Is Auntie Yin still working out?”
Lan Yuxin walked closer, linked her arm through hers, and smiled. “Yes, she still has to take a shower. She told us to wait for her in the living room. You can come down with your big sister first and keep me company.”
Bo Muyu instinctively pulled away a little from Lan Yuxin, then nodded. “Mmm.”
She walked in front, and Lan Yuxin walked behind, her eyes fixed on her back with great interest. This little devil was still as quiet as before, without a trace of the liveliness of a twenty-something young woman. Such a beautiful age, yet she was like a block of wood, so silly and clueless.
But besides her parents, she probably only liked being with Jiang Chenyin. She wondered if this child knew how to act coy, if she would cling to people. A silly, clueless, and extremely direct child would surely be very cute at such times.
Lan Yuxin quickly stopped this line of thought. If she kept thinking like this, she would probably have to find a little puppy to date in the future. She couldn’t handle someone too young.
But she still had to sigh. Bo Muyu was a very interesting child to figure out. If she were to be developed well, tsk…
In the living room, Bo Muyu poured a glass of water for Lan Yuxin and then sat down on the single sofa.
Lan Yuxin, with her long legs crossed, really couldn’t hold it in and teased her, “Little one, why are you sitting so far away from me? I’m not going to eat you.”
Bo Muyu’s expression didn’t change. “I’m used to sitting here.”
“Tch.”
Lan Yuxin laughed inwardly. Habit, my foot. If it were Jiang Chenyin, she probably wouldn’t even let her sit on the single sofa.
Forget it. It was better not to joke with this child. Lan Yuxin was desperately trying to suppress her urge to tease Bo Muyu.
She moved a little closer to Bo Muyu and asked, “I heard from your Auntie Yin that you had dinner with Su Man tonight?”
“Mmm, it was my senior’s treat,” Bo Muyu said. She didn’t know what Lan Yuxin was going to ask, so she answered honestly first.
“This President Su is quite generous. How many people did she invite tonight?” Lan Yuxin asked, slowly extending the topic as she had nothing better to do.
“Just me,” Bo Muyu replied, then paused and added, “Because my senior said she had some problems to discuss with me, and we couldn’t finish in one go, so we met outside.”
“Then I’ll have to rephrase,” Lan Yuxin’s interest was piqued. “This is being generous to you. It seems you two have a good relationship.”
“Mmm, it’s okay,” Bo Muyu said, not wanting to say more on the matter.
Lan Yuxin turned slightly, cupped her face with her hands on the sofa armrest, and asked in a murmur, “Tell me, what kind of man do you think would be a good match for a woman like your Auntie Yin? What do you think?”
“What…” Bo Muyu was taken aback for a moment, finally fixing her gaze on Lan Yuxin’s charming face. “Why do you ask?”
Lan Yuxin shrugged and said nonchalantly, “Just asking. I suddenly feel like finding someone to date, and I thought I’d think about it for her too.” After she finished, she seemed to have thought of something, paused, and then sighed softly, “Forget it. It’s not that easy.”
Jiang Chenyin was someone you could joke with about this, but even the Jiang family didn’t dare to go too deep with her.
Bo Muyu’s heart skipped a beat. Could it be that Lan Yuxin also knew about that incident? That’s right. They had known each other for so many years. She should know.
“Sister Lan, I want to ask you something,” Bo Muyu immediately sat up straight. “It’s just…”
Lan Yuxin’s phone suddenly rang. She waved her hand to interrupt Bo Muyu and answered the call. “What’s wrong?”
Bo Muyu saw her frown and jump up from the sofa. “Oh right, there’s a party tonight. I completely forgot. I’ll be right over. Clear the area. Don’t let the paparazzi get on to us.”
“Sister Lan, are you leaving?” Bo Muyu also stood up.
“Mmm, I’ll come and see you again next time,” Lan Yuxin smiled and reached out to pat her cheek. “Help me tell Teacher Jiang that I’m leaving.”
Disappointed that she hadn’t gotten any information, Bo Muyu could only nod. “Okay, I’ll tell Auntie Yin later.”
After seeing Lan Yuxin out, she returned to the living room. Not long after, Jiang Chenyin came downstairs.
Bo Muyu looked up and saw Jiang Chenyin wearing a light blue silk shirt, the sleeves rolled up to her elbows, paired with a pair of khaki pencil pants, looking gentle and fresh.
“Yuxin left?” Jiang Chenyin asked, sitting down beside her.
Bo Muyu nodded. “Mmm, she got a call. It seems something came up. She asked me to tell you.”
Jiang Chenyin smiled. “Her schedule is very tight. She probably won’t be in Qinzhou tomorrow.”
Bo Muyu nodded thoughtfully, her mind racing. Should she ask Lan Yuxin the next time they met? Lan Yuxin seemed very easy to talk to, and for some reason, she felt that it would be easier to get information about this matter from her.
So, should she or shouldn’t she?
Jiang Chenyin leaned back on the sofa. Seeing her lost in thought with a slight frown, she felt both amused and curious. She reached out and touched her arm, and when she turned her head, she chuckled softly, “Come here.”
Bo Muyu looked down at Jiang Chenyin’s outstretched arm, a small smile on her face as she leaned over and hugged her.
Jiang Chenyin wrapped her arms around her and asked in a low voice, “Is it cold today?”
Bo Muyu shook her head, but then nodded after the events of the afternoon came to mind.
Jiang Chenyin laughed again. “Shaking your head and nodding. Is it cold or not?”
Bo Muyu’s thoughts shifted, and she looked up to meet her gaze. “It’s not cold now.”
Jiang Chenyin just smiled and said nothing. A direct child’s way of comforting people was really pleasant to hear. No wonder the old master only fell for Bo Muyu’s way. The way her own big brother and second brother flattered him was really not as pleasant to hear as this child’s.
She stroked Bo Muyu’s head and asked with a smile, “What were you thinking about so intently just now? Was it about what you talked about with Miss Su tonight?”
Bo Muyu thought for a moment and said to her, “No, I was thinking that your birthday is coming up.”
Jiang Chenyin pressed her lips together, a hint of a tease in her eyes, her expression a little bit resentful. “Why did you suddenly bring up my birthday? After this year’s birthday, I’ll be thirty-seven, heading towards forty. After forty, it’s fifty, and after fifty…”
Bo Muyu covered her mouth with her hand. This was something she hadn’t expected. She looked at Bo Muyu with surprise.
“You haven’t changed,” Bo Muyu’s gaze was clear and her expression solemn. “In my heart, you’re still the same as you were at the beginning. No matter how many years pass, you won’t change. Twenty-seven, thirty-seven, no matter how old you are, it’s all the same. You won’t change.”
Jiang Chenyin was taken aback for a moment. Just now, she had been thinking that this child knew how to comfort people, and now it was even more impressive. But when these words came from her mouth, Jiang Chenyin didn’t feel at all that she was just trying to comfort her. Her gaze was so serious, and every word came from the bottom of her heart.
She didn’t know if it was a habit or something else, but Jiang Chenyin just believed what she said. It had been like this since she was a child. She had never dismissed her words as childish nonsense because of her age.
This was a natural trust, a trust that had always existed.
Seeing that Jiang Chenyin didn’t answer, Bo Muyu withdrew her hand and continued to hug her, her brow furrowed. “Auntie Yin, what are you thinking about?”
Only then did the image before Jiang Chenyin’s eyes become clear. She said with a faint smile, “I was thinking that you’re right. I know that youth and old age are not simply defined by age. The mind is the most important thing. I’m very glad that in your heart, I’m still the same me as before.”
Bo Muyu’s brow relaxed a little, and the corners of her lips lifted in a faint, shallow smile.
The snow outside was falling even harder. Bo Muyu rested her head on Jiang Chenyin’s shoulder and looked out at the snow, which was as white as pear blossoms.
She murmured leisurely, “Auntie Yin, this year is almost over.”
“Mmm, it is,” Jiang Chenyin said, also looking out the window with her.
Bo Muyu’s head moved, and she rubbed against Jiang Chenyin’s neck. “This year, you were here for my birthday, and I’m here for yours.” A layer of honey seemed to have been spread in her heart, covering the sourness of the years when Jiang Chenyin was away. A hint of gentleness was laced in her tone. “You’re back.”
Jiang Chenyin’s eyes curved, and she held the Bo Muyu in her arms tightly, then said softly, “I’m back. I’ll be here from now on.”
She tightened her embrace again. She really liked the feeling of holding Bo Muyu like this.
