Chapter 59
In late March, the temperature gradually rose and stabilized, and the spring chill was gone.
There was no movement from the Shao family. Jiang Chenyin quietly carried out her own plans. Mrs. Shao had developed a gambling addiction and had used almost all of her kind sponsorship to gamble. She could not remain indifferent.
She had received this news before Shao Sibei had come to her, and she had quickly formed a guess in her mind. After meeting with him, she had started her own actions even faster.
She had no intention of causing trouble. It was best if things could pass peacefully, but if trouble came knocking, she naturally couldn’t be unprepared.
In late March, Bo Muyu told her that she would be returning to Qinzhou soon. During her time with the film crew, she and the director had thoroughly sorted out the existing problems. There was no more work for her to do at the film studio, and Su Man had said she could go back to Qinzhou.
Unfortunately, Bo Mingliang and his wife had gone on another long trip. Ye Xialan could only call Jiang Chenyin from thousands of miles away, repeatedly reminding her to make something good for Bo Muyu to eat, to nourish her little body.
“Teacher Jiang, please give my baby some good nourishment. Look how hungry she is after a trip…”
Jiang Chenyin’s eyebrow twitched, and she said with amusement, “You just have fun. I know.”
Ye Xialan was still not satisfied and said to her seriously, “I heard that the food on the film set is not very rich. Don’t give her a big feast all at once. Her body won’t be able to take it. Start with something light and slowly build her up.”
Jiang Chenyin had no choice but to promise again and again, “I understand everything. I know what she ate on the set. Don’t worry.”
Only then was Ye Xialan relieved, and she said with a grin, “Then I’ll have to trouble you. Her dad and I will bring you back some local specialties when we get back.”
Jiang Chenyin smiled helplessly. “Then I’ll thank you in advance.”
After hanging up, she shook her head with a smile and was about to bury herself in her files again.
“Knock, knock, knock.”
Her assistant, Xiao Lu, walked in, her expression grave. “Sister Chenyin.”
Jiang Chenyin looked up. “What’s wrong?”
Xiao Lu stopped beside her and said, “There’s a trending topic on Weibo. The content is about you breaking up with your non-celebrity boyfriend. It’s already in the top ten. I looked at the photos. It was the day you met with Shao Sibei. The photos are a bit blurry, and the distance is not that close. It looks like they were taken with a phone on the spot.”
Jiang Chenyin suddenly felt a headache and was silent for a moment before saying, “Contact the relevant media and have it taken down, immediately.”
“Okay, I’ll do it right away,” Xiao Lu said and quickly left the office.
Jiang Chenyin’s brow twitched, her thoughts racing. At the same time, she opened the Weibo trending topics on her computer. Sure enough, a topic with her name was in the top ten.
She was not a very popular celebrity. She had just acted in a few supporting roles in her free time. Not only did she have no scandals, but her appearance also fit the current young people’s definition of a cool, mature woman. After a long period of praise, her popularity had grown at a slow pace, and she had basically developed a loyal fan base.
Under the topic of Jiang Chenyin’s suspected breakup with her non-celebrity boyfriend, the most popular post was from a big V on Weibo, with the photos Xiao Lu had mentioned.
The clarity was acceptable. It could be seen that she was walking in front, and Shao Sibei was following behind, and it looked like he was chasing her out of a western restaurant.
She exited Weibo and rubbed her temples, her emotions gradually calming down.
At noon, Jiang Yingzong asked her out for lunch. They were having a good chat about work when he suddenly blurted out, “What’s the deal with that man?”
Jiang Chenyin’s expression was calm. “An old friend. It’s already been handled.”
Sure enough, she couldn’t hide it from the people under Jiang Yingzong. If it weren’t for his trust in her, he would probably have investigated Shao Sibei at the first opportunity, and then he wouldn’t be so calm now, as if he were just asking casually.
“Mmm,” Jiang Yingzong acknowledged. “When you have time, ask your eldest sister-in-law out for a walk. Sometimes I’m too busy and don’t have enough time to spend with her.”
“I know, Brother.”
The Weibo trending topic was taken down very quickly. It had only been a few minutes from the time it started trending to the time it was taken down. But coincidentally, Su Man also had well-informed people under her. After all, she was a well-known figure in the industry. She had gotten the news without having to check Weibo.
At noon, when Su Man was having lunch with Bo Muyu, she remembered and brought it up, “Xiaoyu, President Jiang’s boyfriend looks a little unfamiliar. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him before.”
Bo Muyu was slightly taken aback. “Boyfriend?”
When did Jiang Chenyin get a boyfriend? It had only been a short time since they had been apart. From getting to know each other to confirming their relationship, it had been less than a month?
Thinking of this, Su Man had just started to smile, but before she could speak, Bo Muyu immediately said decisively, “Impossible. Auntie Yin doesn’t have a boyfriend.”
Su Man was suddenly surprised. “No boyfriend?”
Bo Muyu frowned and nodded. “Mmm, no.”
“But I heard today…” Su Man took out her phone and opened Weibo, her expression freezing. “Hmm? The trending topic is gone.”
She casually scrolled through her unread messages and only then realized that she had missed the message from her subordinate saying that the trending topic had been forcibly taken down.
She pressed her temples and said, “The Weibo topic has already been taken down. It’s gone.”
“What Weibo? What did it say?” Bo Muyu stopped eating, put down her chopsticks, and stared at Su Man.
“It’s nothing…” Su Man looked up with difficulty. Seeing Bo Muyu’s insistence, she could only sigh. “I received a message this morning, saying that someone had exposed President Jiang’s breakup with her non-celebrity boyfriend, and photos were taken and posted on Weibo. I was busy, so I didn’t look. I was just about to look when I told you, but I found that the post was gone. And I just saw the message from my person, saying that it was forcibly taken down.”
“That’s impossible. Where would Auntie Yin get a boyfriend?” Bo Muyu said with certainty.
Her cold expression made Su Man stunned for a moment, and then she smiled. “Since even you say so, I think it’s a misunderstanding. It’s possible that it was just a meeting between friends, which is why the related topic was taken down.”
Bo Muyu didn’t reply and lowered her head to continue eating, but her thoughts were already in a jumble.
What was the identity of the man who had met with Jiang Chenyin? A work partner? Something seemed off.
In the evening, Bo Muyu was not focused on packing her luggage. Her mind was full of this doubt. After picking up a few clothes, she began to pace by the window, deep in thought.
To be misunderstood as breaking up with a boyfriend, that meant there must have been some conversation or action to support this claim. This morning, Su Man had said that what was exposed were photos, not a video or a recording, which meant there was no conversation to refer to. So it must have been an action.
Some kind of action had occurred between Jiang Chenyin and that man, making people misunderstand it as a breakup.
Thinking of this, Bo Muyu’s heart skipped a beat. She immediately ran to the bedside table to get her phone, pressed a few buttons, and dialed a number.
Jiang Chenyin’s voice came through, “Muyu, have you eaten?”
Bo Muyu didn’t care about anything else and asked directly, “Auntie Yin, what’s the deal with that man on Weibo today?”
Jiang Chenyin was silent for a moment, then asked back, “You know too?”
“Mmm,” Bo Muyu lowered her eyes and sat on the bed, her voice low. “Auntie Yin, who is he?”
She didn’t believe that that person had such an intimate relationship with Jiang Chenyin. If he did, it was impossible for her to only find out now. Jiang Chenyin wouldn’t hide anything from her now. She had even told her about the old events from many years ago that couldn’t be brought up. Such an important matter would naturally not be told to her only after it was over, and not even in person.
She didn’t believe it, but she was worried that Jiang Chenyin had some difficult matter that she wasn’t telling her. Because even though they were honest with each other, Jiang Chenyin still subconsciously took care of her and protected her.
“He’s Shao Sibei,” Jiang Chenyin smiled. “He asked me out to thank me, and we were accidentally photographed. It’s nothing now. You can go to sleep. We’ll have dinner together when you come back tomorrow.”
Shao Sibei, Shao Sinan’s younger brother.
A cold glint flashed in Bo Muyu’s eyes. The other hand, resting on the edge of the bed, clutched the bedsheet tightly, a faint smile on her lips. “That’s good. I’ll call you when I get home tomorrow.”
Jiang Chenyin laughed softly. “Okay, big screenwriter. I’ll bring you back a cake after work tomorrow afternoon.”
The problem was solved. The two of them chatted for a few more minutes, and then Jiang Chenyin urged Bo Muyu to go to sleep.
After hanging up, Bo Muyu’s expression was still grave.
Jiang Chenyin had not told the truth. If it was just to express gratitude, how could a conflict that could be misunderstood as a breakup have occurred?
Something must have happened. Now, it was either over, or Jiang Chenyin had a countermeasure and didn’t want her to worry.
No matter which one it was, they needed to communicate.
Bo Muyu opened her phone’s contacts to Mrs. Shao’s phone number. Her finger hovered over the screen, her gaze gradually turning sharp.
She temporarily put aside the plan that had already formed in her mind and continued to pack her luggage, preparing for a good rest.
“Knock, knock.”
There was a sudden knock on the door. Bo Muyu closed her suitcase and went to open it.
“Senior?”
It was Su Man outside the door. She was holding her pajamas, her face slightly flushed, a faint smile on her face, and she seemed a little hesitant. “Xiaoyu, I’d like to ask you for a favor…”
“Senior, come in and talk,” Bo Muyu said, stepping aside to let her in. After closing the door, she asked, “Did something happen?”
Su Man tightened her grip on the pajamas in her arms and said with a warm smile, “It’s nothing serious. The light in my room suddenly went out. I’ve already called the front desk to have someone come up and fix it, but it’s been almost half an hour and no one has come up. I’m a little sleepy, so I wanted to ask if I could borrow your bathroom.”
“Of course you can,” Bo Muyu smiled faintly. “Senior, feel free to use it. It’s no problem.”
Seeing her agree so readily, Su Man’s eyes softened. “Then thank you. I’ll go now.”
Bo Muyu nodded. Just as Su Man turned to go to the bathroom, she went to get one of her own coats and put it on, looking as if she were about to go out.
Su Man caught it in her peripheral vision and turned around, puzzled. “Xiaoyu, are you going out?”
“Mmm,” Bo Muyu said as she put on her coat. “It’s not convenient for me to be here while you’re showering. I’ll go downstairs for a drink. Would you like anything, Senior?”
Su Man was taken aback for a moment and couldn’t help but ask her, “What’s not convenient? We’re both women. There’s nothing to be shy about.”
Bo Muyu shook her head, her gaze firm, her tone placid. “That’s true, but I’m used to it. I was a day student in middle and high school, and only stayed in a dormitory in university. And I would always try to avoid my roommates when they came out of the shower.”
Now that she liked Jiang Chenyin, liked women, she always felt that she should avoid it, especially when she saw that Su Man was holding a slip dress with thin straps.
When Su Man heard that this was not intentional, but just a habit, the urgency in her eyes faded. She took two steps closer and persuaded her, “You’re too concerned about these things. It’s really nothing.”
Bo Muyu still shook her head, then glanced at her phone and said, “Senior, you should go and take a shower. I’ll go downstairs for a drink. I’ll come up when I’m about done. After your shower, just put on the coat you’re wearing now and open the door for me.”
She left after she finished. Su Man was completely frozen. The blush that had appeared on her face when she had gathered her courage to make the decision just now had completely disappeared.
Su Man didn’t know what was wrong. She took a few quick steps after her, her voice uncharacteristically unsteady. “If it were President Jiang in the room with you, would you avoid her?”
She clearly knew the answer. She had seen how dependent Bo Muyu was on Jiang Chenyin. She had seen Jiang Chenyin see Bo Muyu to the door in the morning, and she had also seen Bo Muyu’s gaze wander around after she got to the parking lot after work, her mind not very focused when she spoke to her.
Sure enough, Bo Muyu replied, “No,” and then opened the door and left without stopping.
