Chapter 8: Bite. The mark has faded, let’s add another.
Such a wonderful offer, of course Xu Xun wouldn’t refuse.
In the kitchen, the steamer was running, making a faint sound.
On the dining table, Xu Xun’s legs were slightly parted.
Cheng Yang stood right in the middle, one hand on Xu Xun’s waist, the other cupping her chin.
Slowly lifting it.
The moment their lips touched, Cheng Yang’s waist tightened.
She looked down and found that Xu Xun’s two legs had wrapped around her at some point, hooking tightly around her waist.
The corners of Cheng Yang’s lips curled up. The moment she looked up to meet Xu Xun’s gaze, those two legs quickly retracted.
“Wifey.”
Cheng Yang called out in a low voice, reaching out to hook the back of Xu Xun’s knees.
With a gentle pull, the Omega slowly bumped against her waist.
Xu Xun cried out in surprise. Cheng Yang stretched her neck and quickly sealed her lips, her tongue slowly probing inside, licking at Xu Xun’s warm gums.
Cheng Yang couldn’t remember what had happened to her before, not even how to kiss.
Perhaps it was self-taught, or perhaps practice made perfect.
Cheng Yang hooked her arm around Xu Xun’s neck and pressed down, one hand caressing the soft, scorching skin on the Omega’s nape, until she had pressed the other woman’s entire body down onto the dining table.
Xu Xun’s legs wrapped uncontrollably around Cheng Yang’s waist.
The air was filled with the scent of Night-blooming Cereus pheromones.
Mixed with a hint of peach fragrance.
These were the pheromones leaking from them, which they couldn’t control.
Xu Xun’s pheromones were quite strong, but Cheng Yang was different.
She had been injured, and her body’s functions had not yet fully recovered, far from her peak condition.
To ensure a speedy recovery, her body could only suppress some unnecessary behaviors and desires.
Therefore, Cheng Yang was not particularly sensitive to Xu Xun’s pheromones.
Even if their pheromone compatibility was one hundred percent.
Xu Xun arched her long, fair neck, offering her entire body to Cheng Yang as if in sacrifice.
Her eyes were closed, and one hand accurately found the back of Cheng Yang’s neck, slowly pressing the Alpha’s head towards her.
Xu Xun slowly opened her eyes. “Yangyang, the mark has faded. Can you help me add another one?”
Cheng Yang took a breath, squinting to examine the mark on the back of Xu Xun’s neck.
Noticing that the mark was so faint it was almost gone, Cheng Yang took a light sniff, her lips slowly descending onto the patch of scorching, pink skin.
Then, Cheng Yang gently bit down.
She had originally thought that renewing the mark would take their relationship a step further.
But she never expected this.
A suppressed, low groan of pain sounded by her ear. Cheng Yang’s eyes flew open.
Just a moment ago, Xu Xun’s face had a pinkish hue. But not long after she bit down, the Omega’s complexion changed.
Now, Xu Xun’s lips were pale, trembling uncontrollably. Even her face had turned as white as paper.
“A-Xun!”
Physiological tears continuously seeped from the corners of Xu Xun’s eyes. She was in so much pain that she bit her lower lip hard, yet she still tried her best to lift her head. “It’s okay. It’s been a long time since I was marked. It’s normal for it to hurt.”
Cheng Yang’s nape was grabbed once again. Xu Xun pressed her head down forcefully. “Quick! Mark me!”
“No.”
Cheng Yang shook her head and backed away, meeting Xu Xun’s bloodshot eyes. “You’ll get hurt. Something’s not right with you. I’m calling Jian Fan to come take a look!”
The ten minutes set for the steamer were up, and a faint, eggy fragrance floated in the air.
But neither of them had an appetite.
Although Cheng Yang felt weak, she was an Alpha. She could still easily lift Xu Xun, who weighed less than a hundred pounds.
“Yangyang.”
Xu Xun’s body felt as if it had been drained of all strength. She curled up in Cheng Yang’s arms. “Why didn’t you continue? I’m really fine…”
“Don’t talk anymore.”
As Cheng Yang went upstairs, her legs were trembling, and her voice quivered. “I’ll call Jian Fan over. Don’t move. Be good.”
Xu Xun lowered her eyes.
On the back of her neck was a deep bite mark, mottled and swollen red, looking utterly horrifying.
Cheng Yang gently placed Xu Xun on the bed. “Don’t move. Lie on your stomach. Let me see how it is.”
One look, and Cheng Yang’s heart leaped into her throat in terror.
The area around Xu Xun’s gland was swollen high, with faint traces of fresh blood and the deep imprints of canine teeth still visible.
Cheng Yang was filled with regret and self-blame.
She rubbed her head vigorously and sat beside Xu Xun, taking out her phone to call Jian Fan.
When the call connected, Cheng Yang’s voice was trembling. “Dr. Jian, can you come over quickly? A-Xun’s gland is swollen and painful, and she’s shaking all over…”
“Okay, I’ll be right there.”
In less than ten minutes, Jian Fan arrived with her medical kit.
Cheng Yang stood to the side with her head bowed, her face full of self-reproach. “Dr. Jian, please take a look. What on earth is going on?”
Jian Fan’s brow was tightly furrowed. She looked at Xu Xun, who was lying on the bed, silently enduring the pain, and gritted her teeth in anger.
Xu Xun didn’t say a word. She gently turned her head, but the movement pulled at the wound, causing her to break out in a cold sweat from the pain.
Jian Fan was both heartbroken and furious. Her face was dark, and she didn’t want to say anything.
Cheng Yang stood to the side, extremely anxious. “Dr. Jian, have you figured anything out?”
Jian Fan took a deep breath and said, “One moment. I need to give her a full examination. I’ll need you to step out for a bit.”
“Okay.”
Cheng Yang turned and walked towards the door, looking back every few steps before finally closing it.
The moment Cheng Yang left, Jian Fan immediately showed her “true colors.”
She lowered her voice.
“Is this how you keep your promise to me? Did everything I say go in one ear and out the other?”
Xu Xun lay on the bed, her eyes stubborn and obstinate. “It’s none of your business. I know what I’m doing.”
“You have the nerve to say you know what you’re doing?”
Jian Fan carefully cleaned the bite wound on Xu Xun’s neck with gauze and said coldly, “You’re completely insane! Have you lost your mind? You’re a lunatic!”
“Thanks for the compliment.”
The corners of Xu Xun’s lips curled up as she weakly climbed up from the bed. “I just want a little more, that’s all.”
Jian Fan pinched the philtrum point on her own face hard and warned, “Cheng Yang didn’t bite down hard this time. Her body is weak to begin with, so she doesn’t have that much control, but she held back. She was afraid of hurting you, afraid of harming you.”
“But what about you?”
Jian Fan was so angry she almost fainted. “You were the one who deliberately released your pheromones in the villa, weren’t you?”
Xu Xun said, full of confidence, “Yes.”
Jian Fan ground her back teeth fiercely. “You… you, I really don’t know what to say to you.”
“Just leave me alone.”
Xu Xun touched the back of her neck; even the slightest pull was painful. “I know very well what I’m doing.”
Jian Fan took off her sterile gloves and packed up her medical equipment, saying expressionlessly, “You’d better. If you were really clear-headed, you wouldn’t have deliberately used your pheromones to seduce her into marking you.”
Xu Xun stood up shakily and smiled at Jian Fan. “Jian Fan, thank you.”
“I know that everything I’m doing is wrong, I…”
Jian Fan sighed and asked seriously, “Have you considered your future with her?”
Xu Xun was taken aback.
Jian Fan had seen through everything long ago. She shook her head helplessly. “I knew it.”
“Good luck to you.”
That was the last thing Jian Fan said before she left.
·
Downstairs in the kitchen.
Cheng Yang waited outside for a long time, but Jian Fan didn’t come out.
She went to the kitchen, put on a pair of oven mitts, and took out the steamed eggs Xu Xun had made, placing them in an insulated container.
The steamed eggs were tender and smooth, golden in color, and looked delicious.
Cheng Yang sat at the dining table, cupping her cheeks in her hands, silent.
Recalling Xu Xun’s pained and unbearable expression from earlier, waves of self-blame washed over her again.
Why didn’t I take things step by step?
Why didn’t I pay attention to Xu Xun’s condition from the very beginning?
Omegas were not as “thick-skinned” as Alphas. Their glands were more fragile and required more careful attention.
Cheng Yang hung her head, her fingers kneading the silk tablecloth.
Worry, anxiety.
If only I hadn’t made such an excessive request just now.
The moment the bedroom door opened, Cheng Yang shot to her feet.
Seeing Jian Fan walking down the stairs with her medical kit, Cheng Yang eagerly rushed after her.
“Dr. Jian, how is A-Xun?”
Jian Fan gestured for her not to worry. “She’s fine now. She’s doing well.”
Cheng Yang ran to the door, her hands gripping the doorknob tightly.
The second before she turned the knob, she called out to Jian Fan, who was already halfway down the stairs.
“Dr. Jian, can I have a word with you?”
Jian Fan’s steps faltered. Out of Cheng Yang’s sight, she frowned. “Okay.”
The two of them went to Xu Xun’s study.
Xu Xun’s study was very large, filled with all sorts of books.
This was also Cheng Yang’s first time here.
She invited Jian Fan to sit on the sofa and sat across from her.
Jian Fan tried to keep her voice as normal as possible. “What do you want to ask?”
Cheng Yang clasped her hands together, the chaotic rubbing of her fingers betraying her anxious state.
“I want to ask why A-Xun is like this.”
Jian Fan had known Cheng Yang would ask this question and recited the explanation she had prepared in advance.
“I’ve never encountered a case like this before. Perhaps it’s because it’s been a long time since she was last marked, or perhaps it’s because her heat hasn’t arrived yet. Marking can be affected by these things.”
Cheng Yang pinched the bridge of her nose and said with self-reproach, “It’s my fault. I didn’t know the consequences would be so severe. I… I…”
Her head began to hurt again.
Cheng Yang closed her eyes and took a deep breath, not seeing the fleeting, complex emotion that crossed Jian Fan’s eyes.
“Don’t be like this. It’s not your fault. There’s no need to blame yourself. Just be more careful in the future.”
Cheng Yang slowly exhaled, still blaming herself. “Why couldn’t I just control myself? How could I be so stupid?”
Jian Fan moved her lips, but the words on the tip of her tongue were swallowed back down.
“Don’t worry, Dr. Jian. I’ll control myself well in the future.”
Seeing Cheng Yang’s self-reproachful expression, Jian Fan pressed her lips together. “Actually, it’s not a big problem. Don’t blame yourself. If Xu Xun sees… she’ll be sad.”
Cheng Yang slowly nodded. “Mmm.”
Jian Fan continued, “By the way, her wound can’t get wet for the time being. She can only take a bath after it’s healed. Also…”
“What?”
Hearing Jian Fan’s hesitation, Cheng Yang was puzzled.
Jian Fan’s expression seemed a bit strange. “It’s best not to be intimate. Hugging and kissing are fine, but you should refrain from that kind of thing for now. It could easily lead to problems.”
Cheng Yang nodded solemnly. “Don’t worry, I’ll listen.”
Jian Fan was at a loss for words.
She knew Xu Xun all too well.
Would she obediently listen and not “take advantage of the situation”?
The answer was, of course, impossible.
But this was, after all, someone else’s “family matter.” Jian Fan didn’t want to play the peacemaker; she just wanted to give a hint and leave it at that.
Even if she was an accomplice.
Jian Fan stood up with her medical kit. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll be going.”
“Wait!”
Jian Fan turned back.
Cheng Yang still couldn’t suppress the doubts in her heart, but she didn’t know what to ask.
“Sorry for calling you over so late and bothering you.”
The corners of Jian Fan’s lips curved.
“It’s alright. This is my job. Call me anytime if you need anything in the future.”
Not long after Jian Fan left, Cheng Yang was still filled with doubt.
As she chopped the washed scallions on the cutting board into fine pieces, she replayed the recent events in her mind.
According to what Xu Xun had told her before, they had been secretly married for almost half a year.
Even if it was a secret marriage, without going public or having children, it was impossible that they hadn’t done it even once in all that time.
If that was the case, then this definitely wasn’t the first time she had marked her.
Why would it hurt Xu Xun so much…
Hmm
