Chapter 29: Want to Hear
Jiang Mi got a first-aid kit from the hotel front desk. She opened it and carefully looked through the contents. It had basically everything she needed. She picked up the kit and turned, only to find Yan Wei leaning on the sofa, watching her.
Jiang Mi didn’t avoid her gaze and said in a low voice, “I think it’s still better to find a doctor. What if it gets infected?”
Yan Wei was noncommittal and didn’t say anything. She was more focused on observing Jiang Mi’s expression and actions.
She was searching for truth or falsehood in her concern. Unfortunately, Jiang Mi’s eyes were still so pure. So pure that she felt a little sorry for Jiang Mi. Why did she have to catch her eye?
“You can put your foot on this.” Jiang Mi moved the coffee table slightly closer to Yan Wei.
Yan Wei did as she was told and put her leg up. The slightly damp black dress clung more closely to her calf. The contrast between black and white was striking. Jiang Mi’s gaze unnaturally moved down, landing on the wound that was already starting to dry.
Getting closer, she could see the depth of the wound, and Jiang Mi breathed a slight sigh of relief.
She took out the povidone-iodine and said, “I’m going to clean it. If it hurts, just bear with it.”
“Mmm.”
Yan Wei watched Jiang Mi’s practiced movements. The cotton ball, soaked in iodine, wet the wound and cleaned the dried blood around it. The wind was still blowing outside, and the sheer curtains swayed slightly. The disinfectant smell of the iodine covered some of the milky pheromone scent in her breath.
She felt dissatisfied with this, frowned, and her gaze shifted from the shoulder strap showing on Jiang Mi’s shoulder, down to her long hands, and finally, for some reason, stopped on Jiang Mi’s ankle.
In the place covered by the pant leg, almost in the same position as her wound, there was a very small sun tattoo.
Yan Wei suddenly felt curious. “What’s the meaning of the sun?”
Jiang Mi was looking down. Hearing this, she glanced at Yan Wei, then lowered her eyes again and said, “My mom said she hopes I can always be as warm as the sun.”
She looked at Yan Wei’s wound. The fair, tender skin was broken, giving one a sense of regret, as if a beautiful piece of jade had been damaged, so her movements became even more careful.
This wound looked like it had been cut by something.
Although it didn’t look as serious as she had imagined, and although Yan Wei hadn’t made a sound, as if nothing had happened, it must have hurt.
She unconsciously blew on it twice. She noticed the veins on the back of Yan Wei’s foot immediately pop up, and her movements paused slightly. This time, she was sure it wasn’t her imagination. The brandy pheromones were much stronger than when she had first entered the room.
Jiang Mi’s heart began to beat faster and faster, and the cotton ball in her hand felt as if it were about to melt.
At this moment, what topic could she find to make the atmosphere less awkward?
Jiang Mi said, “Actually, it was originally a wound. After it scabbed over and healed, my mom wanted me to forget this bad memory, so she personally tattooed a small sun for me. Oh… I haven’t told you, my mom has a tattoo shop in Jincheng. Her skills are very good, you can hardly tell there was a scar there before.”
She was squatting, and the position of her ankle was somewhat covered by her jeans. Yan Wei seemed to have become interested. She sat up slightly, her voice as faint as usual. “Let me see.”
Jiang Mi paused, her first reaction a bit unnatural. How did they suddenly seem to have become so intimate? But on second thought, it was just looking at a tattoo, nothing much.
“Wait a minute.”
Jiang Mi still continued to finish the work at hand—after cleaning the wound, she covered Yan Wei’s ankle with gauze and wrapped it twice with tape.
Then, still in a squatting position, she reached out and lifted the right leg of her pants. A small sun appeared on her ankle.
“I can’t see it clearly.”
Jiang Mi thought for a moment, stood up, took a paper towel and placed it on the sofa, and then put her foot on it. Unfortunately, the first thing Yan Wei saw was her pale pink toes, the graceful lines of the top of her foot, and then the tattoo.
It was small and very delicate. At first glance, it was very ordinary, but upon closer inspection, one could see that the tattoo artist must have been very attentive when carving every detail. And what was even more special was that there were two letters in the center of the sun—JM.
Yan Wei asked, “Did it hurt?”
Today, Yan Wei seemed to be quite willing to talk. Jiang Mi said, “It didn’t hurt. I had an anesthetic applied before it was tattooed.”
“I mean when you got injured.”
Jiang Mi was silent for two seconds, then met Yan Wei’s eyes. She explained, “I don’t remember.”
She said, “It’s been too long, but it must have been very painful, because I cried at the time. But I don’t remember what kind of pain it was.”
She only knew that after she was injured, she was scared for a long time. It was Jiang Youshu who had healed her.
Yan Wei didn’t know what was wrong with her. Today, Jiang Mi gave her a strong desire to talk. She asked again, “How did you get injured?”
Jiang Mi put down her pant leg, and a chill ran up her ankle. She heard Yan Wei say, in a tone that brooked no refusal, “Don’t move.”
Jiang Mi was completely stunned—Yan Wei’s hand was on her ankle, her thumb gently brushing over the tattoo. A tingling sensation shot up from the sole of her foot to her tailbone.
Yan Wei’s patience today also seemed to be exceptionally good. She asked again, “How did you get injured?”
But her eyes weren’t looking at Jiang Mi, as if her gaze had been completely captivated by the tattoo.
Jiang Mi swallowed. The brandy pheromones in the air were even stronger. Unlike before, she smelled the scent of the sea… that was a sign of arousal.
Looking at Yan Wei’s face, it was still so cold and calm.
This is a master. Jiang Mi lowered her gaze. Who can’t pretend? Actually, she was also pretending. From the moment she smelled the brandy pheromones, her glands were like they had been scratched by a cat’s paw, itchy, with a faint, stinging, throbbing pain.
Her heat hadn’t completely passed yet. If it weren’t for the effect of the suppressor, she might not have dared to be alone with Yan Wei right now.
Jiang Mi looked at the hand that was holding her ankle. This didn’t seem like something Yan Wei would do, but in fact, this person was indeed that high and mighty Movie Queen.
Her heart felt as if it had been whipped.
But she endured it.
She didn’t give in. On the contrary, it aroused a competitive spirit in her.
It can’t be that I tell you everything, and you don’t give anything back, right?
“Teacher Yan, how about we make a trade?”
Yan Wei let out a silent laugh. It was hard to tell if it was amused or sarcastic, but at least the oppressive, suffocating feeling from when they had met was gone.
The smile on Yan Wei’s face quickly and naturally faded, but it was clear that she was in a good mood now. “What trade?”
Feeling Jiang Mi pull her foot back, Yan Wei let go, but her hand was suddenly empty, and she didn’t feel so comfortable.
Jiang Mi asked, “How did you get injured today?”
Yan Wei’s eyelids fluttered. She looked up. “You still have a chance to get something else from me.”
Jiang Mi asked casually, “Like what?”
Yan Wei was intrigued. Her body sank comfortably into the sofa. She had brought the conversation this far. Anyone with a brain should know what to choose.
It was rare for her to have patience.
“Resources. Anything you want.”
“Even a female lead?”
“If you want.”
Jiang Mi: “…”
Wow, I’m actually getting a taste of the pleasure of being kept by a domineering CEO.
Jiang Mi said, “Let’s not joke. I just want to know how you got injured.”
Yan Wei stared at Jiang Mi. Was this person really stupid or just pretending?
“You really don’t want to trade?”
Jiang Mi said, “I have hands and feet. I can earn what I want myself. Teacher Yan, when you say that, I’ll think you have the idea of keeping a mistress in a golden house.”
She also started to joke.
To be honest, she kind of liked chatting with Yan Wei like this.
It would be great if this state could last.
The moment she finished speaking, Jiang Mi noticed that the gaze in front of her had become much hotter. Her breath hitched, and she coughed, her throat itching. “So, do we have a deal?”
Yan Wei took a light breath. “We can. You go first.”
Jiang Mi nodded and organized her words.
“It was my mom. She became mentally ill and suddenly didn’t recognize me one day. She stepped on my ankle with her high heel. It was Lao Jiang, oh, my current mom, who took me to the hospital. That’s about it.”
She finished the story very quickly.
A faint emotion welled up in Yan Wei’s expression. Perhaps it was because this passionate Jiang Mi had also had times that were not so peaceful and happy. Perhaps it was because… they were both the same character.
The atmosphere suddenly became heavy.
But Jiang Mi didn’t notice. She had long since stopped caring. Jiang Youshu wanted her to be a sun, and she felt she had achieved that. She was quite warm now.
She was very happy.
Jiang Mi asked, “Teacher Yan, your turn.”
Yan Wei sat up from the sofa again. She didn’t speak immediately, but turned her gaze to the wine rack opposite her. She said to Jiang Mi, “Get me the third bottle on the second shelf of the wine rack.”
“You’re still injured. Drinking isn’t good, right?”
“Not much.”
By the time Jiang Mi reached the wine rack, she had savored these two sentences. It didn’t feel bad.
She took a wine glass from the side, poured a small amount for Yan Wei, and then handed it to her.
Yan Wei took the wine glass, crossed her legs, and the hem of her dress swayed by her leg. She took a sip and said, “It was your Auntie Mo…”
As she spoke, she sized up the micro-expressions on Jiang Mi’s face. “She did it.”
Jiang Mi’s expression froze for a moment.
Jiang Youshu had told her on the phone that time that ever since Yan Wei’s Alpha mother had passed away, Mo Yun had favored Mo Xi even more, so Yan Wei had received very little care as a child, and was sometimes even neglected. Jiang Youshu also said that Mo Yun had always felt that Yan Wei’s Alpha mother’s death was indirectly related to Yan Wei.
At that time, she had only thought that this was why Yan Wei and Mo Yun had a bad relationship, and that Yan Wei’s personality was a result of not receiving much care and love as a child.
But she had never thought that the relationship between Yan Wei and Mo Yun would be so bad.
Even if… even if the relationship was bad, she was still her daughter.
“What are you thinking?”
Yan Wei’s voice interrupted Jiang Mi.
Jiang Mi looked up. “I’m thinking…”
Yan Wei picked up, “You’re thinking, how can a mother be so cruel? Right?”
Jiang Mi answered this question with silence. But then she thought, before Jiang Youshu appeared, wasn’t her biological mother also so cruel? Wasn’t she also so cruel as to not recognize her?
So it seemed that relationships in the world couldn’t be generalized. As an outsider, she had no right to judge anyone… but she couldn’t deny that at this moment, seeing Yan Wei’s bandaged wound gave her a different feeling.
Yan Wei stared at her expression and her lips twitched. Her leg was bouncing, and her injured foot seemed to be on the verge of hitting Jiang Mi’s jeans at any moment.
She understood the expression on Jiang Mi’s face.
Yan Wei looked up at Jiang Mi, took another sip of red wine, and her tongue licked the red liquid on her lips. “Do you want to hear something even crueler?”
This time, it was Jiang Mi’s turn to ask, “What?”
Yan Wei finished the remaining red wine in the glass in one gulp, then raised her eyes and landed them directly on Jiang Mi’s lips. “Then this time, Jiang Mi, what will you trade with me?”
