Xu Yinian had no way to explain where the clothes had come from. She clutched the hem of the sweater so tightly her knuckles turned white and stiff.
She heard Ji Yan, teetering on the edge of losing her mind, spit out a few words through gritted teeth: “Are these Qin Jiashu’s?”
At the mention of that unexpected name, Xu Yinian’s eyes snapped up. Her gaze, filled with panic and confusion, immediately confirmed the culprit in Ji Yan’s mind.
Ever since she had seen that private photo of Xu Yinian’s collarbone, Ji Yan knew. How could an old fox like Qin Jiashu pass up such a golden opportunity?
But that woman was playing dead, ignoring every message and call. Ji Yan knew Qin Jiashu was only using her to deal with Shen Ruoshuang. She had likely already had her way with Niannian, leaving no evidence behind.
No matter how much Ji Yan wanted to kill that woman, the urge was secondary to the need to deal with the girl standing before her.
The moment Ji Yan had returned to the empty dorm, her first move was to storm over to Xu Yinian’s bed. She had stripped the sheets, the duvet, and the mattress protector—everything those two had rolled around on during their tryst—and shoved them into the washing machine. She replaced them all with her own spare bedding.
She had even seen tangled strands of hair on the pillowcase. Unable to tell whose they were, she’d felt an impulse to burn the whole room down. Even through her gloves, her pathological germaphobia screamed, gnawing at her fingertips. Every agonizing itch was another count added to the indictment of this betrayal.
Ji Yan hadn’t even let herself take a single “bite” for so long, fearing she would scare the girl. She had treated Niannian like a fragile treasure, cradling and protecting her at every turn.
When Niannian’s clothes had been soaked, Ji Yan’s first instinct was to look away, wrapping her up so she wouldn’t feel exposed or ashamed. When the girl had scratched her own neck, Ji Yan had tied her wrists, worrying that even a muffled groan meant she was hurting her!
And the result? Xu Yinian had silently, willingly shielded the other woman, rolling around in bed with someone else right under Ji Yan’s nose. Then, after going out for another “snack” the next day, she had the audacity to come back wearing yet another woman’s clothes.
Since the girl didn’t know how to say no to anyone, perhaps she should just be taken by force. Ji Yan wanted to bind her, to keep her from ever touching or provoking anyone else. She wanted Xu Yinian to be like a dodder flower, clinging and depending solely on her.
While the dark side of Ji Yan’s obsessive nature took control, Xu Yinian finally snapped out of her daze at the mention of Qin Jiashu.
She finally understood—the Senior Sister must have told Ji Yan about Shen Ruoshuang’s hickey!
Clearly, Qin Jiashu didn’t realize that Ji Yan had actually been there that night, listening to the very sounds of that mark being made.
The only silver lining was that Ji Yan had mistaken the culprit for Qin Jiashu…
On the surface, the Senior Sister hadn’t shown any displeasure. She had even used the excuse that “Senior Sister works too” to thoroughly consume her. Because Xu Yinian had “suffered” physically, she had the deluded sense that she’d bribed the woman into silence.
She never imagined that the Senior Sister would burn her bridges and turn around to snitch to Ji Yan.
How… how can she be so wicked!
Xu Yinian felt aggrieved. It felt like she’d endured all that for nothing. At this point, she felt no guilt in letting Qin Jiashu take the blame for the clothes.
Xu Yinian looked weak, as if she had no power to resist. She was soft all over, yet her mouth was incredibly stubborn. If there was something she didn’t want to say, you couldn’t pry a single word out of her. She just subconsciously twisted the edge of the sweater.
“You’re still wearing them? Do you want me to help you take them off?”
Seeing those fingers clutching another person’s clothes made Ji Yan’s vision swim with a jealous, vengeful red.
Xu Yinian bit her lip like a bullied child. She could only hurriedly grab some clothes from her laundry basket. Just as she turned to head to the bathroom to change, Ji Yan spoke with an unreadable tone.
“Where are you going?”
Xu Yinian’s breath hitched. She… she doesn’t want me to change right here, does she?
Then it hit her—Ji Yan probably didn’t realize that the camisole she was wearing underneath also belonged to someone else. She didn’t dare explain why she was wearing such intimate borrowed clothing. She could only turn her back and slowly, painstakingly peel the sweater off.
Ji Yan stared at that slender back. She watched as Niannian’s fingers gripped the hem of the sweater, pulling it upward. Even her fingertips seemed flushed with embarrassment.
Ji Yan had expected a common undershirt. She never imagined that beneath the conservative, thick sweater, the girl would be wearing something so… airy.
From behind, she saw thin straps biting into the fair skin of her back, leaving faint red marks. The sight burned Ji Yan’s eyes, jolting her awake from her trance.
Despite Xu Yinian’s caution, the hem of the camisole accidentally rode up.
Fate revealed the evidence of Shen Ruoshuang’s crime—right on the small of her back.
Xu Yinian frantically pulled the fabric down to cover it, but it was too late. That deep crimson mark on her waist instantly triggered Ji Yan’s memory of the muffled groan hidden behind the bed curtains last night.
The last shred of Ji Yan’s sanity was incinerated by that sight.
That eyesore… only blood can wash it away.
Sensing the dangerous, low pressure radiating from behind her, Xu Yinian knew she had no retreat left. She opened her mouth to offer a soft explanation or an apology, but the words died in her throat.
The moment those freezing fingertips touched her, Xu Yinian felt a bone-chilling cold even through the fabric. She turned her head in shock.
She watched as Ji Yan, expressionless, tore at her own lower lip with her sharp canines. Within a second, bright red blood began to seep out.
