Chapter 17
It took two days to film this part.
Ku Ai’s body was put into a bag. Gu Qi had wrapped.
Qin Cong’an squatted down, looked at Gu Qi peeking out from the bag, and said, “Good work. Happy wrap.”
“…Thank you, Sister An.” Gu Qi swallowed. Seeing her as soon as she got out of the bag, she felt that Sister An hadn’t completely broken character yet. It was a bit scary.
A crew member helped Gu Qi climb out. Chang Ning personally presented her with a bouquet of flowers. “Good work, good work. Thank you for your wonderful performance.”
“Thank you, Director Chang. Thank you, everyone, for your care and guidance. I had a great time on set,” Gu Qi said with a bow, ready to get off work! So great!
Gu Qi walked over to Xu Ling to say a separate goodbye. “Aww, we have to meet again in the future. It’s just a pity we’re not in the same city.”
Xu Ling also felt a little sad. The filming was really coming to an end, bit by bit. The day she and Qin Cong’an would wrap was not far off. She smiled and said, “You have to contact me when you come to North City, and I’ll find you when I go to Jiang City.”
“Okay!”
Gu Qi washed the blood off her face and body, finished work, and took a flight back that night.
After finishing work, Xu Ling returned to the hotel, took a shower, and felt that the room was a little quiet.
For the past few days, she and Gu Qi would chat every night. Now that Gu Qi was gone, it was a bit quiet and a bit boring.
Qin Cong’an didn’t come to find her either. Xu Ling lay on the bed, opened her side account, and got angry just looking at it. She didn’t really want to go find her either.
Wait, she hadn’t already deleted her, had she?
The thought that she might have been deleted extinguished Xu Ling’s anger, leaving only sadness. Being deleted by her after the wrap was within her expectations, but being deleted now was absolutely not okay.
Xu Ling tentatively sent an emoji over. Before sending it, she thought, if it doesn’t go through, I’ll go find her immediately. If it does go through, I’ll go find her immediately too.
No red exclamation mark.
Xu Ling immediately climbed out of bed, left her room, and knocked on that familiar door.
“Who is it?”
“Me.” Can’t she recognize my knock? She used to just open the door directly.
The door opened, and Qin Cong’an looked at her. “What is it?”
“Something.” Xu Ling looked inside. “I want to come in and talk.”
“There’s someone in my room.”
“Who?”
Lin Xinnuo heard the voices outside and ran out. “It’s me. But I…”
“I still have something to talk to you about. Go back inside,” Qin Cong’an interrupted Lin Xinnuo, then turned back to Xu Ling. “If you have something to say, say it here.”
Xu Ling’s gaze fell on Lin Xinnuo. Her expression and body language clearly indicated that there was nothing going on. Qin Cong’an just didn’t want her to come in. She asked, “You’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you?”
“What?”
“I told you last time to just say it if there’s a problem, and you’re still like this.”
Qin Cong’an leaned against the doorframe, her hand reaching for Xu Ling’s collar, the back of her hand caressing her smooth, post-shower skin. “I just don’t understand why you’re looking for me. We’re not filming that kind of scene tomorrow.”
Xu Ling swallowed and grabbed her hand. “Can’t we just talk?”
“Gu Qi left, so now you know to come talk to me.” Qin Cong’an pulled her hand back and crossed her arms. “Unfortunately, you and I don’t have as much to talk about as you and her.”
A thought popped into Xu Ling’s head. Could she be jealous? So cute. But it made no sense. Anyone could see that she and Gu Qi were just fellow fans. They barely talked about anything other than Jiang Ruzhi. What was there to be jealous of?
Besides, they only had that “special” kind of relationship. Why would she be jealous?
She wasn’t jealous when she saw her boyfriend promoting a CP. Jealous of her?
The door next to them opened, and an actor walked out. She wasn’t surprised to see the two of them, just didn’t understand why they were standing at the door. She said hello, said she was going down to buy something, and walked away.
While Xu Ling was talking to her, Qin Cong’an closed the door and went back into the room.
Lin Xinnuo sat on the sofa, very uncomfortable. Seeing Sister An come over, she stood up.
She had vaguely overheard their conversation just now and felt it was full of information. Coupled with seeing Sister An come out of Sister Ling’s room that morning, she couldn’t help but imagine many things.
Qin Cong’an sat down on the sofa and started reading the script. After a while, seeing that Lin Xinnuo was still standing, she said, “Sit.”
Lin Xinnuo sat down and asked, “Sister An, is there something you wanted to talk to me about?”
“Nothing.”
“…” Lin Xinnuo wanted to ask if she could leave, but she knew the answer. If she could leave, Sister An wouldn’t have asked her to sit down. So awkward. “Did Sister Ling need something?”
“What do you think?”
“M-me?” Lin Xinnuo pointed at herself. How would she know? “I don’t know.”
Qin Cong’an’s eyes were on the script. She continued to ask her, “Do you know who Gu Qi’s ex is?”
Lin Xinnuo breathed a sigh of relief. She actually knew this! “Her college classmate. He’s also an actor now.”
“Male or female?”
“Huh? Male.”
“Oh.”
After a long silence, Qin Cong’an asked again, “What about Xu Ling’s ex?”
“That… I haven’t heard. She was abroad before, so I’m not very clear.” After Lin Xinnuo finished speaking, she saw the script in Sister An’s hand being tossed onto the coffee table. She looked over and saw her tilting her head back to look at the ceiling, an annoyed expression on her face.
Although Lin Xinnuo was startled, Sister An was really beautiful. That jawline, so beautiful even from that unflattering angle.
Lin Xinnuo saw her raise her right hand and look at it, not sure if she was looking at the back of her hand or the light on the ceiling.
It felt like whatever Sister An did was like a scene from a movie. As Lin Xinnuo was marveling internally, she heard her say, “Let’s go. Good night.”
“Good night, Sister!” Lin Xinnuo immediately scurried out of the room.
The next day, not only were they not filming that kind of scene, but the two of them were even going to have a big argument.
The body of Ku Ai was placed in a bag by the door. Wen Xi planned to take it out on her way out.
Jian Yu came home after buying a popular roast duck that required queuing for over an hour. Seeing a large bag by the door, she kicked it. It felt soft. She asked curiously, “What’s this?”
“Ku Ai.”
“Sister Ai?” Jian Yu immediately dropped the roast duck and was about to open the bag to look, but was stopped by Wen Xi. But she still took a peek and confirmed that it was really Ku Ai. Jian Yu was dumbfounded. “Why?”
Wen Xi’s face was cold. “She deserved to die.”
“What do you mean, deserved to die?”
“Don’t you often curse her to death?”
Every time Wen Xi got money from Ku Ai, and Jian Yu helped count it, she felt that Ku Ai was inhuman. How much of a cut was she taking?
But Jian Yu still never expected Wen Xi to kill Ku Ai.
“Because of money?” Jian Yu knew it couldn’t be that. Before, when she cursed Ku Ai to death, Wen Xi had been indifferent, saying the money was enough. “Then why?”
There was no need to hide it from her. Wen Xi told her. Wen Xi had thought that after she told her, Jian Yu would understand why.
But Jian Yu frowned. “How are you any different from that man?”
Wen Xi looked up at her in disbelief, then said in a calm voice tinged with a loss of control, “You’re right, there’s no difference. We were both murderers to begin with.”
“You certainly are now,” Jian Yu said, disappointment in her eyes.
They did both kill people, perhaps even more than that man. But they were just tools, just doing a job for money, not subjectively wanting to end someone’s life. But now, Wen Xi had killed someone because she wanted Ku Ai to die.
Without Jian Yu saying more, Wen Xi already understood what she meant. She asked, “When you find that man, you won’t kill him?”
“Of course I’ll kill him.”
“Then were you just telling a joke?” Wen Xi picked up the roast duck from the floor and placed it on the table.
The roast duck was still warm and fragrant. Jian Yu had also bought beer, cold.
Before filming, Chang Ning called Xu Ling and Qin Cong’an over to explain the scene, especially to Xu Ling.
Although this part was an argument, and it involved matters of life and death and values, the conflict was not small. But they couldn’t act it out with abandon, couldn’t have a big, loud fight. Instead, they had to hold back. This was not easy to act and could easily become contrived.
“Your emotions need to be up to here,” Chang Ning gestured to her neck, then gestured down to her chest. “But they can’t go any higher. You have to restrain them, push them down to here, understand? No matter how much you disagree, you are still the most precious person to each other. You still have to eat the roast duck, still have to drink the beer.”
Xu Ling glanced at Qin Cong’an. Thanks to her blocking her from entering her room last night, she actually understood. Wasn’t it just that feeling of wanting to explode but having to hold it in? She understood.
