Chapter 18
This time, the interview was an exclusive one-on-one session, conducted in a question-and-answer format between the host and the guest.
This interview program updated with a new episode at a fixed time every week. The invited guests ranged from famous actors who had won international gold awards to artists currently embroiled in scandals and negative press.
Because of its bold and sharp interview questions, each episode had different viral moments, thus attracting the attention and love of a wide audience.
When Shi Qin received the notice for this interview, she was naturally happy.
Although it was probably because she had a lot of negative press and many things to dig into, it at least proved that she had some fame. After all, you needed to have traffic to attract people.
The interview venue was also specially arranged, set in a moderately spacious study. The room was dominated by cool tones, with dim lighting. There were bookshelves on both sides, and two black leather sofas in the middle.
A faint, subtle scent of ebony incense wafted through the air, smelling very comfortable. To ensure an environment where the guest could completely relax, there were not many staff members present.
Only a few camera crew members and the artist’s assistant were there. At this moment, Zhou Jinsi was standing in a corner of the study, watching Shi Qin, who was already seated on the sofa, exchanging pleasantries and laughing with the host.
Because it was an interview, her overall makeup and styling were more gentle and elegant. She wore a loose-fitting white sweater, her hair tied up, revealing a long, fair, jade-like neck. Her eyes were warm, and every frown and smile exuded gentleness.
At this moment, Zhou Jinsi finally realized what was different about the smile she had given Shi Hua that day.
It was the same smile, but this gentleness was like the curve of her lips, which wouldn’t turn up too much. It was also like her eyes, which, although they seemed to be smiling, held no real mirth. It was just right, carrying a measured sense of distance.
She seemed very approachable, but in reality, she was completely unreadable.
Zhou Jinsi unconsciously zoned out. By the time her consciousness returned to reality, the interview had already begun.
The entire room was very quiet, so even though Shi Qin and the host weren’t wearing microphones, everyone present could still hear their conversation clearly.
The host was also a well-known veteran actress in the industry, Song Qin. Although Shi Qin had never met her, several of Song Qin’s representative works were household names. Rather than just an actress, she should be respected as an artist.
Song Qin was nearly sixty years old and was warm and polite. Shi Qin found it very relaxing and natural to chat with her.
And although this was a free-form interview without a script, Shi Qin had made a point to watch the previous few episodes before it began. So, she had an idea of some of the questions and had already prepared her answers.
The beginning consisted of some routine questions. Once Song Qin saw that she was sufficiently relaxed, she said warmly, “Xiao Shi, I heard that you were chosen by Director Wang to act in his film as a regular person without a professional acting background.”
Shi Qin replied with a faint smile, “Yes, I was very honored to be chosen by Director Wang at that time. Before that, I thought the word ‘actress’ was very distant for me.”
Song Qin: “Then what was the reason that made you decide to choose this industry? After all, in the acting profession, sometimes it really depends on luck. Some good actors may not even be known to the public.”
“Then I might be one of the luckier ones, since I got to work with Director Wang right from the start.” Shi Qin smiled, then paused for a moment, her eyes shifting as if she were recalling something.
“As for why I chose this industry, besides hoping to bring more good works to everyone, I also have a goal of my own.”
Song Qin: “Oh? What is it?”
Zhou Jinsi was also very curious about this question. The words Shi Qin had said to her earlier flashed in her mind.
She had said, “It’s tiring, but I have something I want to do. It’s very important to me.”
What important thing?
Zhou Jinsi had never heard Shi Qin mention it to her before.
At this moment, her gaze fell on Shi Qin’s face. She saw a very faint smile appear on her lips, which she quickly pressed away, but her eyes shone with a different kind of light.
“I want to be famous.”
Hearing this, Song Qin was taken aback, forgetting to respond for a moment. She had never seen a young actor speak so bluntly.
But Shi Qin smiled again. “I want to become someone like you, Teacher Song, someone known to the public. I want everyone to know that a person named Shi Qin exists.”
“So, whether everyone calls me a ‘flower vase’ or any other name, I don’t really mind.”
Song Qin raised an eyebrow, waiting for her to continue.
Shi Qin smiled faintly, gentle and generous, and said in a soft voice, “Because that also means that I am truly being noticed by everyone. For that, I am very happy.”
“So, I hope everyone can continue to pay attention to me. Maybe you don’t like me now, but you might grow to like me in the future.”
Her words were both playful and sincere, without any flattery or affectation. Song Qin didn’t feel any dislike or confusion toward her words. She just felt that this was a very ambitious child, with a mindset that surpassed most of her peers.
Song Qin smiled and nodded, continuing to look at the script in her hand.
This segment of questions was over. Next was the part that the audience looked forward to most in every episode, where the host would ask about some of the guest’s more personal matters.
“Is Xiao Shi ready? Our questions can be very sharp, you know,” Song Qin said jokingly, as a way to shift the somewhat relaxed atmosphere.
Shi Qin’s eyes curved, her tone becoming a bit more playful. “It’s not going to be about some personal relationship questions, is it?”
Song Qin laughed. “Xiao Shi is so smart.” Then, looking at her with a hint of gossip, she asked, “So, for the first question, has Xiao Shi ever been in a relationship?”
Hearing this question, Shi Qin remained very calm, but Zhou Jinsi, standing to the side, grew a little nervous, her blinking frequency even increasing.
Shi Qin: “Yes, I have.”
Seeing that this question could be delved into deeper, Song Qin continued, “Was it a school romance?”
Shi Qin said frankly, “It was during college. Of course, I’m single now.”
Song Qin smiled. Insiders all understood. In this industry, especially for someone like Shi Qin who was on the path of a young starlet and wanted to rely on popularity, being exposed in a relationship during her rising period would more or less have an impact.
But Shi Qin’s words were also meant to clarify her ambiguous relationship with Yin Chenxuan. It was just a “couple” publicity stunt, not to mention she had long wanted to uncouple from him.
Seeing that she wasn’t avoiding the topic, Song Qin went along with it, smiling warmly. “Would it be convenient for Xiao Shi to reveal how many relationships she’s had?”
Zhou Jinsi had already anticipated the answer she was going to give, but Shi Qin didn’t answer directly.
She lowered her gaze, her eyelashes veiling her eyes, a faint smile on her lips. She inadvertently glanced in Zhou Jinsi’s direction, making the latter’s heart seem to stop for a moment. She hastily averted her gaze.
“I’ve only ever had one person in my heart.”
One person.
The moment Zhou Jinsi heard the answer, her long, narrow eyes widened slightly, but her mind was in a daze, completely blank.
She felt as if the air around her had gone silent. The sound of her heart pounding like a drum seemed to be right next to her ear. She was a little surprised, yet also unconsciously happy, lost in her own thoughts.
She’s only ever had one person in her heart… does that mean…
Shi Qin watched Zhou Jinsi’s reaction out of the corner of her eye. Although there wasn’t much of a display, she had seen clearly the moment she had frozen and looked over.
She couldn’t help but feel a little amused. She didn’t know when this blockhead would finally understand matters of the heart. If she wasn’t in her heart, then why would she keep getting entangled with her? She was not an indecisive person.
To Song Qin, Shi Qin’s words naturally made her seem like a very devoted person. She couldn’t help but sigh, “That person must be very outstanding in your heart.”
However, Shi Qin didn’t play by the rules again. She shook her head with a smile on her lips, making Song Qin raise an eyebrow in curiosity.
She smiled brightly and said, “In my heart, she’s a rather dense person. If I had to describe her, she’s probably like a block of wood.”
“But none of that matters, because as long as I like the person I like, that’s all that matters.”
On camera, under the dim yellow lights, a cryptic love confession fell upon Zhou Jinsi’s ears. An unknown warmth flowed into her heart, along with a suppressed, restless joy that made her heart tremble.
At this moment, Zhou Jinsi lowered her eyes to the floor, her thin lips pressed into a straight line. Her face was secretly burning up. Fortunately, she was in a dark corner; otherwise, everyone would have surely noticed a very tall and thin girl, shyly bowing her head, her face completely red.
She remembered the message Shi Qin had sent her last night.
: Have you thought it over?
: What is the answer in your heart?
You guys need to sit down and talk the misunderstanding out.
