Chapter 26: The Tsundere Dragon Girl
Even a fool could understand the relationship between the Pope-ruled Holy Light Kingdom and the Kingdom of Alicia, home of the Holy Dragon Knights. A non-human nation simply couldn’t compare. But that didn’t mean she wasn’t bothered that Wendymia had been the one to speak first.
The reason Eirya hadn’t spoken up herself was because her thoughts about Class 2-1 were pure. She saw Yier Meng and Elise simply as a teacher and student, with no national politics involved. She hadn’t spoken, but the fact that the words had come from Wendymia’s mouth was, conversely, a sign that she truly regarded Yier Meng as a teacher.
But even so, Eirya now seemed somewhat agitated.
Then, as if giving up in frustration, she said, “I’m sorry, Teacher… I couldn’t say it before.”
“The other kingdoms all have their own different ideas, but our Ice Dragon clan could have stayed out of it entirely. As for what student Wendymia said, I agree with most of it, but this idea that the divine temple can shelter us… I’m a dragon. I don’t trust the words of humans one bit.”
Her expression was a little gloomy.
“The reason I was thrown over here by the dragon race is because right now, among all the clans, our Ice Dragon clan is the weakest. Deceit and trickery… it’s laughable, but the dragons are currently fighting tooth and nail over the position of Dragon Emperor.”
Eirya had no intention of concealing her meaning. She ripped away the last veil of secrecy covering the class.
“Wait, let’s go upstairs and talk.”
Yier Meng stopped Eirya from continuing. Although there were only the four of them at the base of Holy Light Dormitory 1 for now, the fact that it was Holy Radiance Day didn’t mean no one else would come by. Wendymia, who had charged straight at the three of them because of her horse, was the best example.
“Mm.”
The other three also understood the gravity of the situation.
This time, however, having learned a lesson from the Eirya incident, Yier Meng and the others properly took the stairs and used the key to open the door and enter the room.
The dorm room was incredibly grand. Its duplex design made it look like a presidential suite.
Click.
She locked the door from the inside.
Now, the four of them sat in the living room, nibbling on the fruits and senbei (a type of Japanese rice cracker) that their host, Elise, had brought out, sipping on some freshly brewed hot tea.
Normally, the boiling water would have made the tea too hot to drink immediately, but with the ice dragon princess present, the temperature was no issue at all. The only awkward part, perhaps, was the three of them having to face Eirya’s eye-roll.
Clink… clank…
Several beautifully shaped ice cubes fell into their cups, rapidly cooling the scalding hot tea.
“This is the first time I’ve ever used the Ice Dragon clan’s magic for others in this way. If any of you leaves even a drop of your tea behind, I’ll make you regret it.”
She was clearly being a tsundere (a character who is initially cold or hostile before gradually showing a warmer side).
Her slightly raised chin and the way she turned her little head to the side were incredibly cute.
“Don’t worry, don’t worry, we’ll drink it all.”
Seeing such an adorable dragon girl, Yier Meng immediately took on the role of peacemaker, smoothing things over. With that, the other two began to eat and drink with peace of mind.
And seeing Yier Meng’s appeasing attitude, Eirya dropped her tsundere pose. Her brief moment of unhappiness gradually subsided, and the dissatisfaction she had felt watching Yier Meng fawn over Wendymia also faded away.
