Chapter 30: An Awkward Mistake
The situation escalated suddenly. Not even Yier Meng had expected Eirya to abruptly frighten Wendymia to test if she was truly afraid of dragons, so she hadn’t anticipated that Wendymia’s reaction would be so severe. As a result, Yier Meng didn’t manage to stop it in time.
“I’m sorry, it’s my fault.”
Eirya’s draconic pupils reverted to human ones. Seeing Wendymia scream and thinking about her own probing actions, Eirya felt deeply guilty.
“Dragon… Mother…” Judging by Wendymia’s ceaselessly trembling body and her deathly pale face, her fear of dragons was anything but mild.
“You two should go rest in a room first.”
With this, the conversation could only come to an end. In her current state, what Wendymia needed most was rest.
“Mm, I understand.”
Eirya nodded. She also knew that the current situation was not suitable for further discussion. Besides, she had already said about seventy to eighty percent of what she had intended to. Planning to leave, she simply said, “I’ll be going then. I’ll leave Wendymia to you for now.”
Rising from the soft cushion, she got up and headed for the door.
“I’m a dragon. It’s probably better if I stay far away from her.” It looked as though a houseguest, having finished their conversation, was about to head home.
But after taking only a few steps, she stopped abruptly. Eirya’s gaze was fixed on Yier Meng, as if she were extremely worried about leaving her alone with an idiot elf like Elise and a broken-down human like Wendymia.
She hesitated, a deeply conflicted expression on her face.
“Um, Elise, you have three rooms here. You wouldn’t mind if I picked one to stay in for tonight, would you?”
It was a very awkward turn of phrase.
What Eirya didn’t realize was that her request to stay the night in Elise’s dorm, which should have been a question, had been delivered as a definitive statement due to her proud personality. It seemed the habit of a draconic tsundere was hard to change, no matter where she was.
In fact, when Wendymia had screamed and looked on the verge of collapse, Eirya had intended to go and hold her. However, there was a table between them. This subconscious distancing, which not even Wendymia herself had noticed, meant that when the crisis suddenly occurred, it was too late for Eirya to help.
So, as Wendymia broke down, it was Yier Meng who had swiftly supported her. In such close contact, she felt how small, soft, and fragile Wendymia’s body was, and this made Yier Meng’s heart ache, causing her to hold her even tighter.
“Yes, you can stay here. Remember to take Elise with you when you leave.”
Yier Meng pointed upstairs, answering on Elise’s behalf. She knew that Elise and this dragon did not get along, and if they were to argue at a time like this, it would undoubtedly make the situation worse. Although the dragon and the elf eating senbei and drinking tea had eased the situation somewhat, Yier Meng’s words clearly carried a lot of weight, and Elise would listen.
So she continued, “You two go upstairs and rest. We’ve all talked a lot today, and everyone is tired. And you’re not entirely to blame for this; I also bear some responsibility. For what comes next, let me, the teacher, handle it.”
