Chapter 7: I’ve Been Had
“I can still be cured? Are you serious?”
Evidently, the moment the elf girl heard she could be cured, it was as if she were grasping at a lifeline. She abruptly seized both of Yier Meng’s arms.
“You’re not lying to me?”
“Of course I’m not.”
“You’re really, truly, absolutely not lying to me?”
“I’m really not lying to you,” Yier Meng said, a touch of helplessness in her voice.
She understood that the elf girl was thrilled to know she could become a normal elf again, but her repeated questioning made Yier Meng feel as though she were captaining a pirate ship, and that she was, in fact, a crooked merchant running a scam.
“In any case, if you’re willing to try, I will do everything in my power to cure you. The process may require you to continue enduring things for a while until you’re healed, but being willing to act is better than resigning yourself to your fate, isn’t it?”
“Mm.”
The elf girl listened with rapt attention.
Finally, after seeming to ponder something, she nodded, indicating her willingness to accept Yier Meng’s treatment.
“Well then, let’s start with introductions. My name is Yier Meng Aili Shengguang. In the future, I will be a teacher at the Holy Light Academy, specifically teaching the practical tactics course.”
With that matter settled for the time being, Yier Meng breathed a sigh of relief.
It occurred to her that since they hadn’t yet introduced themselves, it would be difficult for her to find the girl later. If she knew her name and class, she could probably make a special request to the academy’s headmaster.
With that in mind, Yier Meng introduced herself forthrightly.
This time, however, the elf girl’s reaction was rather extreme. Yes, the one thing Yier Meng had likely failed to consider was the significance of the surname “Shengguang” in this country.
Having spent ages as His Majesty the Emperor of the Yeling Empire, he had naturally used the Yeling Empire’s greatest surname—Yueshen.
So, in the Holy Light Kingdom—a kingdom that, in her eyes, was rotten from the top down, its glamorous exterior hiding a filthy core—adopting the surname “Shengguang” felt almost logical.
Aili Shengguang—
“Y-y-y-y-you… your surname is Shengguang?”
The elf girl’s mouth now hung agape, so wide it seemed you could stuff a duck egg inside.
In her state, forget about remembering to introduce herself; she had probably forgotten in that instant that she even needed Yier Meng’s help in the first place.
“Yes. It’s just Shengguang,” Yier Meng continued.
To her, the elf girl’s astonishment seemed like an overreaction. Wasn’t she also a princess of the Elven Kingdom, the queen’s daughter? What was so strange about her having the name “Shengguang”? Besides, compared to this feminine name, she still felt her masculine identity as Yueshen Guang was far more impressive.
“You really are… But you’re right, it doesn’t matter. I’m an elf, so your attitude regarding your identity as a human Saintess is none of my business. Forgive my rudeness. As an apology, I shall introduce myself. I am a princess of the Elven Kingdom, the Third Princess—Elise Xiliasi Kairamez.”
This time, it was Yier Meng’s turn to be stunned.
What had she just heard? The human Saintess?
She must have misheard. This had to be a joke, right? Just because her name was Shengguang, she was supposed to be the Saintess? But she was a demon! A demon! Even as a girl, she was a bona fide demon! There was no way in hell she could be connected to the Saintess!
Besides, the sworn enemy of this Holy Light Kingdom was the demons, wasn’t it?
A human kingdom, a kingdom that reveres the gods above all, and the very same Holy Light Kingdom that despised demons the most—would they really choose a demon to be their Saintess? There must be a mistake somewhere
