Clockwork and the Vicious King 9

Chapter 9: A Misunderstanding

On top of that, there were simply too many different demon races.

Some races were naturally superior to others, like the high-ranking demons. Others specialized in a particular area, such as the imps who excelled at mind magic, or the succubi who focused purely on glamours, or even the goblins, who spent their entire lives breeding and capturing females of other races.

From the common little goblin, to the goblin mages, warriors, and priests who could barely be considered combatants, all the way up to the goblin heroes who could fight one against a hundred, and finally, to the strongest of their kind, the Goblin King, whose combat prowess could rival that of a high-ranking demon.

The disparity between individual demons was truly immense.

Therefore, demon education was generally handled within the family, or their offspring were simply thrown into the king’s army to learn through real-world combat experience.

The human model, where the growth period is relatively consistent and only certain individuals are geniuses, was a rare phenomenon among demons. Thus, demons were unwilling to learn from human experience and education, disdaining to do so.

To a demon, gathering all these talented children together, putting them in a school to be educated, to grow up gradually and experience all walks of life—it was an outrageous waste of natural gifts.

Yier Meng was certain that if she were to try such a thing, the demons would be at each other’s throats by the second day. And it would most likely be a fight to the death. Some demons were inherently arrogant; even if they possessed equivalent combat strength, they would be unwilling to learn alongside demons they looked down upon, such as goblins. It was only because they were bound by military discipline and an ingrained, absolute loyalty to the strong—brainwashed to be utterly devoted to every emperor of the Yeling Empire—that they didn’t tear each other apart within the army.

Discipline and peaceful coexistence? I’m sorry, but that’s simply not how you describe demons.

Knock, knock!

Yier Meng knocked on the door.

“Come in!”

A woman’s voice came from inside the room.

Glancing at the three words “Headmaster’s Office” on the doorplate, Yier Meng entered with confidence.

The woman inside was reviewing lesson plans. A glint of intellect shone from the glasses perched on her nose. At her slightly open collar, two fair, soft peaks seemed ready to spill out, and the professional attire she wore was incredibly alluring.

Gulp…

Yier Meng swallowed hard.

When her gaze finally fell upon the headmistress’s legs, the tantalizing black stockings truly made her lose her composure. The beautifully shaped legs had a hint of fleshiness, and as she shifted, uncrossing and recrossing her legs to relieve fatigue, a glimpse of darkness could be seen deep within, something even the pantyhose couldn’t fully conceal.

With Yier Meng’s eyesight, this “now you see it, now you don’t” effect only added a new layer of temptation; she could even make out the pattern of the underwear from the raised texture.

And finally, her eyes landed on something behind the headmistress’s swivel chair.

“‘Lewd… Lewd Woman’?”

The sight nearly blinded Yier Meng.

On a large, flat placard were two prominent, stylized characters.

“Pfft.” The moment Yier Meng read it aloud, the headmistress across from her tossed her beautiful purple hair, covered her mouth, and let out a soft chuckle, even putting down the lesson plan in her hand.

“That says ‘Magnanimous,’ not ‘Lewd Woman.’ The ancient script is read from right to left, not left to right.”

She looked over, a playful glint in her eyes that made Yier Meng’s hair stand on end.

Honestly, why show off your calligraphy if you’re going to write something like that? And if you’re going to show off, why write it backwards?

And to top it all off, the headmistress’s appearance was just so…

Ahem, lewd!

It fit her perfectly.

Still, blurting it out without thinking was Yier Meng’s mistake. After all, the person in question had heard it loud and clear.
