Chapter 22 p1:
The tentacles swayed, and the water in the bathtub grew fuller and fuller, but no one turned off the faucet, letting it continue to overflow.
The drain could no longer handle it, and water flooded the floor.
The previously spacious bathtub now felt cramped, unable to even fit a whole octopus and a human. Half of her tentacles were draped outside.
The contracting suckers clung to the delicate skin, wanting to climb yet reluctant to leave their current spot. They wanted everything, unwilling to let anything go, controlled by a greedy nature that left them pacing back and forth, unable to choose.
A button from her clothes, fallen off at some point, floated on the water’s surface. Before it could escape with the current, it was hooked by the tip of a tentacle and, along with the little yellow duck, was held in a firm grip.
Ji Yulin, and everything that is Ji Yulin’s, should be hers.
This was the only thing the unconscious octopus could remember.
Hot steam filled the air, and the rain continued. The downpour outside intensified, showing no signs of stopping all night. At that moment, the seawater surged into the streets, crashing against the houses on both sides.
The narrow bathroom had become the only sanctuary. The light was warm, and the hot water seemed to flow endlessly. Compared to the impending disaster outside, this place was like a different dimension.
But Ji Yulin knew this was only temporary. She tried to struggle. Red marks appeared on her bound wrists, but she couldn’t break free at all. Instead, it made the octopus wrap her even tighter.
Where the tentacles and skin met, a feeling of anxiety and unease was transmitted, trapped in a dream yet agitated by reality.
Another bolt of lightning flashed outside the window, splitting the thick black clouds into pieces. The seawater had already reached the steps and was still rising.
A hint of anxiety appeared on Ji Yulin’s face. She called out in a hoarse voice, “Wake up.”
The octopus didn’t respond, her closed eyelids showing no change.
Ji Yulin refused to give up and immediately called out again, “Wake… Mmph,”
This time, she didn’t even finish before a tentacle covered her mouth, forcing her to swallow her unspoken words.
Ji Yulin was forced to tilt her head back. A tentacle eagerly squeezed into her mouth. The already tightly pressed human and octopus were now even closer. Ji Yulin was almost sinking into the octopus’s soft belly, her bound limbs lifted and then pressed down.
“Mine…”
“Go in, want,”
The uncontrolled tentacles, finally getting what they had wanted before, eagerly probed inward, squeezing into the gentle, moist place.
Ji Yulin became even more disheveled. Her pajamas had long been soaked transparent by the water. The buttons had fallen off one by one from the friction of the tentacles. The red marks on her body had not decreased but increased, scattered like red camellias blooming on her pale skin.
Her aloofness was gone. The corners of her long, narrow eyes were misty. Her wet hair stuck to her cheeks and was then pushed away by a tentacle.
“Don’t,” the muffled word of protest had just escaped when it was blocked by a tentacle pushing further in, making one wonder if it had been intentional from the start, pretending to loosen a little only to push in deeper.
At any other time, Ji Yulin wouldn’t have minded indulging her. She might even have enjoyed it.
After all, she had done her fair share of coaxing and tricking the little octopus into doing things that crossed the line.
But the situation was different now. She didn’t know what was happening outside. She couldn’t let the octopus continue.
Her bound hands pushed against the octopus, her legs trying to hold down the tentacles.
Although she was still in a daze, Ji Yulin’s actions caused extreme dissatisfaction in Li An.
She had gotten used to being coaxed by Ji Yulin. If she was ignored for a little while, she would throw a tantrum for a long time, let alone being pushed away.
The tentacle on the edge of the bathtub unconsciously tightened, actually cracking the white porcelain. At the same time, the little yellow duck in another tentacle let out a sharp squeak.
The entire octopus suddenly froze, just as she had earlier that night.
Subconsciously, she disliked this thing. She had even, before falling asleep, blamed it for her reckless behavior that night, so she was particularly sensitive to the little yellow duck’s sound.
But even so, she didn’t loosen her grip on the little yellow duck at all.
Seeing this opportunity, Ji Yulin quickly pushed back, creating a small gap, and called out in a hoarse voice, “Li, Li An.”
If Li An were still awake, she would have been shocked that Ji Yulin knew her name.
Because before this, Li An had never told Ji Yulin her name. One reason was that she was hesitant—how could a mentally challenged little octopus have such a human-like name?
The other was that although they had been able to communicate for a long time, the human and the octopus always ignored this ability, still stuck in the stage of “you gesture, I guess.”
But Ji Yulin was able to call it out at this moment.
It was just a little awkward and stumbling, whether from the soreness of her mouth after being squeezed by the tentacles or for some other reason.
The first time is raw, the second time is familiar. Ji Yulin no longer hesitated and called out again, “Li An, Li An, wake up.”
The octopus behind her stiffened, as if she felt something, but the effect was minimal.
Ji Yulin’s voice grew more anxious, “Li An, wake up.”
A pang of regret rose in her heart. She should have left tonight. She didn’t know why the crisis that had appeared a month later in her previous life had suddenly erupted today, and the situation was even more serious.
Before Ji Yulin could think, there was a knock on the door.
—Bang bang bang!
“Professor!”
“Professor Ji, wake up!”
Ling Yun, her face anxious, stood outside the door, knocking and shouting. At some point, she had broken free from the dream and rushed here.
Ji Yulin’s expression relaxed, and she instinctively tried to call for help, but an irritable tentacle immediately covered her mouth again, while the other tentacles tightened their grip.
Like a dragon guarding its gold, not allowing anyone to covet its treasure.
“Professor!”
“Professor Ji!”
Li An, trapped in the dream, still hadn’t woken up. She didn’t even know what she was experiencing. In a daze, after the previous dream ended, many fragmented images appeared.
For example, Ji Yulin personally cutting off the octopus’s tentacle, extracting her blood, her cold eyes showing no hesitation.
Pain!
Although it wasn’t happening to her, Li An still felt a phantom pain. Like the octopus in the dream, she was in so much pain that she thrashed at the bottom of the pool, breaking out in a cold sweat.
Why would Ji Yulin do that?
Li An couldn’t understand.
Nor could she calmly watch the occasional nights of entanglement between Ji Yulin and the deep-sea behemoth.
Why… don’t…
Mine…
Ji Yulin is mine…
A feeling of agitation and rage surged, reaching its peak when she heard the vaguely familiar call.
And at that moment, Ling Yun didn’t wait any longer. She took a step back with her right foot and then kicked the door hard.
After a few kicks, with a final loud bang, the seemingly sturdy door was kicked open. Ling Yun didn’t hesitate and was about to stride in.
But in the next second, something shot out. Before she could see clearly, her vision went black as it slammed into her face.
Ling Yun was caught off guard and was knocked dizzy. Before she could open her eyes, it slammed down on her head from above.
With no time for anything else, Ling Yun quickly tilted her head to dodge, but the creature reacted extremely fast, changing from a slam to a diagonal chop mid-air, and punched her in the shoulder.
The blow sent Ling Yun stumbling back two steps, but she didn’t think much of it. She had no time to think. She just assumed a mutated beast had broken into Ji Yulin’s room. Her expression was anxious and worried, but before she could make her next move, she was hit with a barrage of blows, with no chance to fight back.
Another punch came. The bruised and swollen Ling Yun quickly raised her forearm to block, but the tentacle used the same trick again, chopping at her neck instead.
To avoid being knocked out, Ling Yun quickly blocked with her other hand. This blow was heavier than the last, and her face turned pale, breaking out in a cold sweat from the pain.
But Ji Yulin was still in the room. She didn’t dare to retreat. Her gaze shifted, and she thought of slipping in from another direction.
But just then, a voice suddenly came from inside, “Ling Yun.”
The raised voice was as calm as ever.
Ling Yun’s face lit up, and she quickly called out, “Professor Ji?!”
“Professor, are you alright? What is this thing? Where are you in the room?” A series of questions were thrown out quickly.
But the person inside didn’t answer. Instead, she called out, “Go save the others first.”
“What?!” Ling Yun’s expression changed, and she quickly said, “Professor, I’ll get you out first, we…”
“Go save the others. I’m not in danger here.”
She was cut off before she could finish. Ling Yun’s expression was hesitant, unsure if Ji Yulin was telling the truth or not. She said again, “Your safety is the most important.”
The moment she finished speaking, the tentacle, which had been quiet for a moment, swung at her again. Ling Yun quickly dodged to the side.
This time, she finally saw a blurry peach-pink, but she still couldn’t tell what it was. Before she could get a closer look, another punch landed on her face. Her wheat-colored skin, which hadn’t shown much color before, was now a conspicuous mix of red and purple.
“You go first. I can handle it here,” the calm voice was as composed as ever, showing no sign of anything unusual.
But if Ling Yun had been able to get a few steps closer, she would have seen the hot water flowing out of the bathroom, soaking the floor. Inside the half-closed door, Ji Yulin was holding a tentacle by her lips with one hand and pressing down another on the edge of the bathtub with the other.
It seemed like she had temporarily suppressed it, but under the turbulent water, tentacles were still coiling.
The lifted hem of her clothes no longer served any purpose, held by a coiling tentacle, slowly climbing up. Her pants had been pulled halfway down, barely hooked at the bend of her knee, on the verge of falling but not quite. Other tentacles vied to wrap around her, mimicking the dream, hovering at the edge, wanting to go in but not daring.
Ji Yulin’s breathing grew heavier, but she could only suppress her gasps and say, “There’s no problem here. You go and inform the others first.”
She gathered her thoughts and struggled to continue, “This should be a new species of mutated creature. It has the effect of pulling people into a hallucinatory sleep, but it’s not as threatening as previously recorded species and doesn’t actively attack humans.”
“You need to find a way to wake up the townspeople first.”
She couldn’t say any more. After all, she had never left the room, so how could she know so much?
The tentacles were still making trouble, dissatisfied with Ji Yulin’s distraction. Ji Yulin tried to block them with her legs, but they were forcefully pried open, and the force left even more conspicuous sucker marks.
Ji Yulin was helpless. The moment she tried to escape, the tentacles would tighten.
It was like being lost deep in a dense forest and encountering a thorny vine with rich hunting experience. The moment the prey moved, it would tighten its grip, like a threat. But if you were obedient and didn’t move, it wouldn’t let you go either, just slowing down a little, little by little, imprisoning its prey in its own cage.
Ling Yun, outside the door, was hesitant. Without actually seeing Ji Yulin was safe, she still couldn’t rest easy, afraid that something had happened.
“Professor…”
But the person inside was impatient and coldly told her to leave, “Go.”
Ling Yun clenched her fists, struggling internally for a long time. In the end, she knew she couldn’t delay any longer. After clenching her jaw, she retreated silently with a bruised face, one hand clutching her other arm.
The seawater outside had already reached the top of the steps, almost submerging her calves. The sunflowers in the flowerbed had not withered. Instead, they were even more vibrant, full of life.
At this point, even an ordinary person could see that something was wrong, let alone Ling Yun.
But she alone couldn’t remove so many sunflowers.
After a moment’s thought, Ling Yun ran to her other teammates’ rooms. Without a second’s delay, she kicked open the doors and shouted for them, then led them to the town mayor’s house in the center of the town.
Their actions were swift, but they forgot to check on the sleeping people in the surrounding rooms. Their faces were still peaceful, but they were aging rapidly at a visible rate. In just a few short minutes, a young person had a face full of wrinkles, let alone the older people.
As one after another of the elderly stopped breathing on their beds, the surrounding sunflowers grew taller, reaching over two meters in an instant.
