Chapter 28 p2:
The little octopus was stunned. Just as she was about to explain, Qi Fu had already started to teach her, “Come, come, Ji An An, learn from me. Eating a cherry is simple. Just throw it in your mouth, suck the flesh, and be sure to spit out the pit.”
She even demonstrated it once, then proudly tied a knot in the cherry stem with her tongue. She didn’t know what she was so proud of, but she raised an eyebrow at the little octopus.
Ugh, a greasy tomboy.
The little octopus hugged the cherry and silently took a step back.
Ji Yulin bent down and leaned in, saying softly, “Did you learn? Shall Mama teach you again?”
It’s just eating a cherry. How stupid did she think she was in Ji Yulin’s heart, to need to be shown over and over again?
The little octopus’s chubby face puffed up. She hugged the cherry and began to gnaw, trying to prove that she was very good at eating cherries.
But when the cherry stem was between her teeth, the little octopus couldn’t help but want to imitate Qi Fu, but she quickly suppressed the urge, determined not to become a greasy little octopus.
She had just finished a cherry and hadn’t spat out the pit yet when Ji Yulin’s hand came over. The little octopus immediately looked up, her azure eyes reflecting the other’s figure, a clarity that could be seen through to the bottom.
She understood that Ji Yulin wanted her to spit it into her hand, but the little octopus was awkward and a little unwilling.
Her eyes flickered, and then fell into Ji Yulin’s lowered eyes. There was none of the aloofness and impatience she had when talking to others. To the little octopus, she was always considerate to the extreme.
As if possessed, the little octopus, like blowing a bubble, spat out a clean pit. Before she could react, Ji Yulin had stuffed another cherry into her hand.
Huh?!
The little octopus hugged the new cherry, both dazed and at a loss.
Why does Ji Yulin always want to feed her cherries?
The question that had just popped up was not yet resolved when the scene from last night appeared again, tinged with an unknown color. A tentacle squeezed the thin skin of the cherry, and the sweet juice stuck to her contracting suckers.
The little octopus was wearing a white top hat today, and a blue and white striped bandana was folded into a triangle and tied in a bow behind her round head. The overly plain colors did not cover the little octopus’s liveliness. Instead, they made her look more like an exquisitely dressed glass ball, her azure eyes innocent and pitiful.
Ji Yulin wrapped the pit in a tissue and wiped her hands clean. Seeing her still dazed, she couldn’t help but smile and said, “What? You don’t want to eat cherries anymore?”
At these words, the fragrance of the cherry seemed to finally spread on the tip of her tongue. The little octopus tasted the sweetness and subconsciously wanted to shake her head but stopped.
How could the mischievous person not understand, yet she still deliberately teased her, her voice gentle yet malicious, “Then how about some cream?”
The moment she finished speaking, she added, “Shall Mama feed baby?”
Why is it happening again?!
Before the little octopus could resist, she saw Ji Yulin’s clean fingertip land on the cupcake, which no longer had a cherry. The cream stuck to it, and in the next second, it was stuffed into the little octopus’s mouth.
Mmph,
It was as outrageous as last night. She had made the decision on her own, forcing Li An to accept.
The milky white cream filled her mouth, smearing a white circle around it. The cool fingertip, after blocking her, still wanted to go in. A faint sweetness could be tasted, but her thoughts were completely occupied by other things.
Just like last night.
Feeding milk and feeding cream, the method was exactly the same. It was just that one was in the dead of night, and the other was at a noisy banquet.
The little octopus was naive, but her skin was scorching, almost as red as the cherry in her arms.
“Is it delicious? Shall Mama feed you some more?” the person still wouldn’t stop. Her delicate features were gentle, and Li An actually saw a hint of maternal softness in them.
“Do you want a cherry or cream, baby?”
Although the cherry between her tentacles was still there, and the cream Ji Yulin had fed her had not yet been swallowed, the usually considerate her was now anxiously asking.
But the question was not important. What was important was the repeated “baby.”
Baby.
Baby…
The word spun in the little octopus’s head. She sensitively sensed that something was wrong but didn’t know the reason. She could only vaguely sense that Ji Yulin was doing it on purpose, but why?
Baby, Mama…
Although she had only called her that in a daze the first time, the rest of the time, it was Ji Yulin who had initiated it, teasing her time and time again, making the little octopus at a loss, and in the end, even going along with her. But Ji Yulin had become the unhappy one.
The little octopus couldn’t quite figure it out and could only hug the cherry and swallow the cream.
Before Ji Yulin could feed her again, someone suddenly stepped into the banquet. The originally lively place suddenly fell silent, and all eyes turned to that direction.
It was a woman of about thirty or forty, with wavy blond hair. A black suit enveloped her graceful figure. Her well-maintained, deep-set features were not only as beautiful as when she was younger, but because she had been in a position of power for a long time, she had an extra hint of rare authority.
Li An didn’t know this person, but she recognized Aunt Su behind her. She had seen before that she held a high position in the Thirteenth District, but now she could only follow behind this woman, step by step.
After a brief silence, the atmosphere became even more enthusiastic. Those people all rushed up, wanting to talk to the blond woman.
But the woman, though she seemed enthusiastic and greeted everyone with a smile, was like a butterfly flitting through a flower garden, not stopping for a moment, and walked straight to Ji Yulin.
Her footsteps paused. The blond woman extended her right hand and said with a smile, “Professor Ji Yulin, we meet again.”
Ji Yulin composed herself, touched the other’s hand, and quickly let go. She even went along with her, “Long time no see, District Chief Qi.”
The little octopus’s eyes widened, not because this person was the district chief of the Thirteenth District, but because of her similar features to Qi Fu, and the same surname.
The thought that had just popped into her head was verified in the next second.
Qi Peilan glanced to the side and said, “Where do you think you’re going?”
The sneaky Qi Fu suddenly stood still and grinned at them, her face full of guilt as she called out, “Mom.”
Then she turned her head and called out to the woman behind Qi Peilan, “Aunt Su.”
“Yo, you’ve been back for a few days? And you’ve finally remembered this mother of yours,” Qi Peilan raised an eyebrow, a teasing sound in her voice.
“That’s not it, that’s not it. I was on a mission. I’ve been running around with the professor these past two days,” Qi Fu was now like a mouse meeting a cat. She smiled sheepishly and looked at Ji Yulin for help.
“Professor, am I right?”
Without bothering Ji Yulin, Aunt Su shook her head. Her always-smiling face was friendly as she took the initiative to say, “Stop running around and come stand here.”
Her tone changed, and she said in a tone used for a child, “Wipe your mouth. You’re so old, yet you still have cream all over your face.”
Just a few words were enough to show their intimacy.
The little octopus hadn’t figured out their relationship yet, but she first lowered her head and wiped her face with a bandana.
Then, she saw Qi Peilan turn and smile, and said to Ji Yulin, “This one has been spoiled by me. She’s so old, yet she’s not a bit mature. Professor Ji must have been annoyed by her during this time.”
The little octopus silently nodded, then guiltily looked at Qi Fu, just in time to meet her resentful gaze.
The little octopus’s gaze shifted, and she raised a tentacle to pull down her hat, covering her face.
Ji Yulin didn’t respond. She was always this taciturn and cold.
Qi Peilan didn’t mind and smiled instead, “The last time I met Professor Ji was at the Research Institute. I never thought I would have the honor of hosting you in the Thirteenth District.”
The little octopus perked up her ears. She wasn’t surprised that Qi Peilan knew Ji Yulin. The Research Institute had a rule that the district chiefs of the thirteen safe zones had to report to them every one or two years and bring back newly developed things from the Research Institute. She remembered that someone had even called this “going to the capital to receive a reward.”
Qi Peilan’s tone changed, and she pressed down on Qi Fu’s head, saying, “Why don’t you thank Professor Ji? When you had your mutated beast body transplant, it was thanks to her care.”
“Huh?” Qi Fu clearly didn’t know about this and showed a surprised expression.
Even the little octopus immediately lifted her hat and stared at them.
But Ji Yulin shook her head and just said, “It was within my responsibilities. There’s nothing to thank me for.”
“To Professor Ji, it was your duty, but to us, it was a great kindness,” Qi Peilan shook her head, and then her explanation was heard.
Back then, when Qi Fu had her golden eagle left eye transplant, all the other participants in the transplant experiment had died. Only Qi Fu had barely held on, but her condition was also very bad.
Qi Peilan, desperate to save her daughter, had actually found a way to contact Ji Yulin. And at that time, Ji Yulin had just finished an experiment and had been assigned as an assistant for the transplant experiment, and had happened to meet Qi Fu.
“Wow, Ji Mama, you’re also my lifesaver,” Qi Fu was still not serious, not forgetting to tease the little octopus at this time.
Li An rolled her eyes, not wanting to bother with her at all.
Qi Peilan said with an apologetic tone, “The affairs of the Thirteenth District are busy. I originally wanted to personally welcome Professor Ji, but I was held up by official business and could only come now. I hope Professor Ji doesn’t mind.”
She added, “I was very worried when I heard that Professor Ji had encountered danger at the coast. I kept telling them to do their best to find you and report to me at all times.”
“I originally wanted to send Qi Fu and the others immediately, but they had already been sent out on other missions.”
At this point, Qi Peilan became more and more guilty and was about to offer Ji Yulin a toast in apology.
But Ji Yulin just shook her head and refused, only saying, “District Chief Qi also has her own difficulties. There’s no need to trouble yourself for me.”
Although Ji Yulin didn’t like to talk, it wasn’t that she couldn’t say polite words. The two of them went back and forth for a while. The little octopus and Qi Fu exchanged a glance and secretly yawned.
It would be better to eat a small cake.
After a while, she didn’t know what they were talking about, but she saw Qi Peilan suddenly smile and say, “What does Professor Ji think of the Thirteenth District?”
“If you feel it’s alright, give me a chance and stay in the Thirteenth District for a few more days, so I can properly host you.”
In the woods not far away.
Ling Yun and her team were standing in the shade, their eyes fixed on Ji Yulin’s direction.
But after a long time, everyone inevitably got distracted.
Ling Yun was leaning against a tree trunk, lost in thought. Another person was squatting, boredly pulling at the grass, and muttering, “Why did the professor have to come to the Thirteenth District?”
“What’s here? It’s so boring. It’s not as good as the Research Institute.”
She had been complaining for a long time and had actually gathered some courage. She looked up at Ling Yun and said, “Hey, Captain, can you go and tell the professor to let us go back early? There’s nothing here, and everyone is getting bored.”
Ling Yun frowned. Before she could respond, the person muttered again, “If we had left yesterday, we would be halfway there by now.”
Ling Yun’s expression grew even darker, and she immediately snapped, “The professor has her reasons for what she does. What are you trying to do, nagging about this for the past few days!”
In the next second, she thought of something else and couldn’t help but warn, “Last time, you were also the one who kept suggesting that the professor avoid the Thirteenth District and go straight back to the Research Institute. Liu Hu, what are you trying to do?”
Liu Hu scratched her head and laughed awkwardly, “What can I do? It’s so unsafe outside. I’m just worried about the professor’s safety and want her to go back early.”
“Besides, the professor doesn’t like to deal with these people anyway. Why do we have to stay here?”
Ling Yun didn’t know if she believed her. She stared at her for a long time before she said coldly, “You’d better not have any other ideas.”
“How could I, Captain,” Liu Hu kept protesting and even wanted to drag others down with her. She said to the others, “You guys say, don’t you want to go back too?”
Ling Yun snorted coldly, not listening to her explanation, and just said, “Don’t let me hear you say that again. The professor can do whatever she wants, and we’ll just follow.”
Liu Hu pouted unwillingly. She wanted to say something but didn’t dare and could only lower her head again.
On the other side, the little octopus suddenly lifted her head.
What?!
Ji Yulin actually agreed!
