Chapter 33:
“Li, Li An…”
The hand on her shoulder tried to grab her, then suddenly stopped, resting on her delicate skin with restraint, as if touching fragile porcelain, with extreme care.
The girl’s kiss was the same.
It was very light, barely touching the corner of her lips, without even the most basic press. It was less a kiss and more a simple touch.
Inexperienced and naïve.
It reminded one of a peach that had just started to show a hint of pink.
Perhaps it was a trick of the imagination, but Ji Yulin seemed to really taste a hint of peach.
She vaguely thought that this was the first and only touch in her past and present lives with Li An that could be called a kiss.
The hand on her shoulder and neck shifted, as if to caress the other’s cheek, but her fingertips landed between the bones of her neck. With a slight press, Li An was forced to lower her head.
And Ji Yulin’s chin lifted slightly, wanting to taste the sweetness of the green peach again.
The one who had taken the initiative was now at a loss. The mask in her hand fell, plunging into the seawater. She wanted to lift her hand but didn’t know where to put it.
In the end, it was Ji Yulin who reached out and effortlessly squeezed between her fingers, their fingers intertwining. The warmth was transmitted from their touching palms, from icy cold to warm.
“Li An.”
Another call. This time, the words were clear, and her calm tone had returned to normal, but it inexplicably held a hint of seduction.
The other subconsciously wanted to respond but was pried open.
Her breath hitched, and their intertwined hands became inseparable.
Neither of them was very skilled. They could even be called clumsy. They probed little by little, their lips touching and then separating, then sticking together again without a pause. Her thin lips were pressed red, their teeth collided, and the tip of her tongue tasted a little sweetness.
Inexperienced and eager.
She even blushed from not knowing how to breathe, and then half-comprehendingly understood.
The surroundings were still dark. The upper floors might have had a little light, stolen from the broken holes, but it couldn’t reach the bottom, this deep place twenty meters from the ground.
The seawater surged in and then receded, back and forth several times, washing away the previous mess. In a little while, it was as if nothing had happened, returning to its previous cleanliness.
It made the broken walls and railings beside it seem useless, just standing there.
The mist remained. A faint rainbow halo could be faintly seen, but without the snake scales that represented danger. It quietly enveloped the South Tower. The person lying on the ground was breathing long and even, sleeping more and more peacefully.
Undisturbed.
In this seemingly dangerous but actually silent and vast prison, Li An and Ji Yulin kissed again and again, from inexperienced to actively exploring.
Kissing was not hard to learn, especially when someone was willing to practice with you over and over again, without getting tired of it.
Her breathing grew heavier. The intertwined hands loosened, and she gripped her slender waist, wanting her to get closer. From responding to taking the initiative, Li An lowered her head and leaned in.
Ji Yulin had always indulged her.
No matter what the situation.
“Ji Yulin…” a low, hoarse voice sounded.
“Hmm?” the woman was a little out of breath but still replied patiently.
But the other didn’t speak again. The tip of her tongue flicked at her full lips. She liked this place the most, always hooking and pressing it, and then suddenly probing in, forcing Ji Yulin to let out a pained whimper.
No matter what she looked like, her malicious nature could not be changed.
Ji Yulin still indulged her. Her cool fingertips lingered on her spine, even coaxing Li An to be a little more outrageous.
Their foreheads touched, their noses brushed, and their breaths mingled, making a faint watery sound.
“Ji Yulin…”
She didn’t know how much time had passed. It should have been a long time, but it felt extremely short.
Li An reluctantly pressed against the other’s cheek, her light and fiery kisses touching her forehead, her nose, and her red, bewitching lips.
“Ji Yulin…” she murmured.
She pleaded softly, “Wait for me.”
“Ji Yulin, wait for me,” she repeated.
“Ji Yulin…”
Amidst the sound of the crashing waves, in the enveloping mist, she spoke with an almost pleading murmur, “I’ll be back.”
Ji Yulin vaguely realized something. She raised her hand and caressed her cheek, tucking a fallen strand of hair behind her ear.
The voice dissipated into the air, leaving no trace.
A wet, cold tentacle climbed up her ankle, lightly hooking and pulling, the suckers sucking, leaving a trail of tiny red marks.
[Professor…]
A deep gaze, a low murmur that could not conceal its possessiveness. A tentacle wrapped around her entire calf. As the tentacles intertwined, a hint of flushed, pale skin was revealed.
Ji Yulin fell into the tentacles, like a prey falling into a trap.
The dungeon was still cold and damp, a humid chill spreading. A teetering broken brick fell into the water with a plop.
Faintly, a voice could be heard from outside, a human voice altered by a machine, repeating over and over again.
“District Chief Qi! District Chief!”
“Professor Ji!”
“Captain Qi! Please respond if you receive!”
“Captain!”
The calls were incessant, but there was still no response. The mist blocked everything, not spreading out, nor did it dissipate at all, still lingering there, as if it had sealed off that space.
Someone looked worried and said anxiously, “Vice District Chief Su, what should we do?!”
“Now Captain Qi and the District Chief are inside, and even Professor Ji…”
“The Research Institute can’t contact Professor Ji and has already started asking us.”
With such a major event, Su Ye, who looked like a gentle woman, was now unusually calm, a composure that ordinary people could not achieve, as she gave each command in a steady tone.
“Inform the Research Institute that Professor Ji and the District Chief are inspecting the South Tower. The signal may be blocked on the lower floors, so Professor Ji did not receive the message.”
“If they don’t come out by tonight, tell the Research Institute that Professor Ji saw a mutated beast in the prison and seemed to have some inspiration. She has already locked herself in the laboratory, and even we can’t contact her.”
“This…” the person hesitated for a moment, but in the end, still agreed, “Yes.”
Although it was a way to deceive the Research Institute and buy time, there was indeed no better way at the moment.
If something happened to Ji Yulin again in the Thirteenth District, it would not just be a problem of one Ji Yulin, but the entire Thirteenth District would have to bear the suspicion of the Research Institute.
“Has the cordon been set up?” Su Ye asked again.
“It’s been set up. We’ve already sent people to move the residents to other areas. It’s a no-man’s land within a hundred meters.”
“The ones who attacked the South Tower?”
“The ones we could catch have been locked up, but for some reason, we can’t wake them up no matter what we do. We’ve already called for medical personnel.”
At this point, Su Ye slowly relaxed her hands. Only from this could a hint of her panic be seen. Her palms were covered in crescent-shaped marks from her nails.
Although the two most important people in her life were in trouble, and she was the one who should be the most panicked, at this moment, she could not show any emotion.
She took a deep breath, suppressed her emotions, and said, “Keep calling for them. If there’s no change by tomorrow morning…”
She paused, then gritted her teeth and decided, “Initiate the plan to destroy the South Tower.”
The person beside her trembled in fear and quickly said, “But the District Chief and the others are still inside. Wouldn’t that be too extreme?”
“That’s your, your…”
Su Ye closed her eyes, her heart wavering, but her reason forced her to speak, “You know best what’s in the South Tower. The highly venomous sea anemone, countless ferocious mutated beasts and heinous criminals, and a completely unknown mist has risen. We can’t predict what will happen.”
“If it really starts to spread, it won’t just be the South Tower that falls.”
“Behind us… is the entire Thirteenth District,” Su Ye took a deep breath, her tone completely firm, “The Thirteenth District cannot be lost.”
The person’s expression was conflicted, but they couldn’t say anything else and could only turn and carry out the order.
But when she left, Su Ye seemed to have lost all her strength and slumped against the car behind her. Her despairing eyes were fixed on the tilted black tower, silently praying over and over again.
[Professor…]
A longing voice, coiling tentacles, constantly pressing up, piling up the fabric. The white coat on the outside was pulled, half-removed. The shirt buttons were unbuttoned by two, and the slanted collar was pulled by a tentacle, constantly moving to the side.
Ji Yulin lifted her eyelids. The feeling of weakness had been there all along, and because she had forced herself to wake up, she was even more powerless. She wanted to lift her hand but it fell. Her already pale skin was even more transparent, like a porcelain doll at the mercy of the octopus.
A gloomy gaze fell on her lips, still red from the inexperienced crushing. A tentacle covered it in dissatisfaction, forcefully wiping away the moisture and leaving the mark of a sucker.
It was also amusing.
Although it was the same body, it would still be jealous because of other consciousnesses.
[My, my professor.]
The stubborn voice repeated, and the tentacles became more and more outrageous. Not hesitating to make Ji Yulin feel oppressed, she had to wrap her in her own body, to merge into her bones and blood.
The icy-cold tentacles gradually became warm.
The octopus did not have the helplessness of a human, nor the innocent cluelessness of a little octopus. She was more like a skilled and experienced gourmand, slowly and methodically preparing her ingredients.
Ji Yulin wanted to lift her hand but her wrist was held. The coiling tentacles had long since bound her drooping limbs.
The white coat fell and was then pulled up by a tentacle. Every piece of clothing was carefully put away. She remembered Ji Yulin’s neat freak tendencies and didn’t want her to wear wet clothes later.
Not only that, but Ji Yulin’s entire body was suspended in mid-air, reminding one of a marionette among the vines of a thick tree trunk, with an otherworldly delicacy and beauty.
[Professor…]
The low voice called out continuously, with an indescribable longing.
The atmosphere outside the tower grew more oppressive. As the red sun set, a cool breeze came, but it did not relieve the stuffiness in their hearts. Instead, as time passed, it became more and more oppressive.
It shouldn’t be, but it always felt like the voice in the loudspeaker was getting hoarser and weaker.
Su Ye, who had been dehydrated from the sun, still stood there. Her pale lips were chapped and cracked, revealing obvious vertical lines.
In her despair, she could hardly hear anything.
It was unclear who in the car it was, but someone suddenly slapped the steering wheel, and the horn blared, making a sharp sound.
Everyone seemed to have just come back to their senses, but what could they do?
They still had to stand here and wait.
The lunchbox by her hand had already gone cold, and a layer of cold oil had formed.
Someone came in a hurry and called out, “Vice District Chief.”
“Those people from the council are making trouble again.”
The decision-making level of the Thirteenth District consisted of the district chief, the vice district chief, and a council of twelve families. In the past, Qi Peilan and Su Ye had worked together, and with the capable Qi Fu, they had kept them firmly suppressed. But now that Qi Peilan and Qi Fu were missing, many people had started to have ideas they shouldn’t have.
With the thoughts here in turmoil, the city was not peaceful either. There were always people stirring up public opinion and creating panic, forcing Su Ye to often take time to deal with it.
She furrowed her brows, a hint of hostility flashing in her eyes.
This person, who had always worn a gentle mask, could no longer hide it.
The wind blew into the mist and was dissipated before it could reach the wall.
The tentacles rubbed, still hovering, and the water that had been stained from somewhere glistened with a watery light.
“Don’t,” the word was not yet spoken before it was blocked.
This octopus was so malicious. She only allowed Ji Yulin to make the sounds she wanted to hear, and everything else was held between her teeth, not allowed to escape.
Ji Yulin was annoyed. She lifted her eyes and gave a slight glare, as a warning.
The creature was not only not afraid, but also showed a triumphant elation, her remaining tentacles swaying.
The faint peach scent had been ground away, replaced by a slightly salty smell of the sea.
Domineering, malicious, and without any concealment.
This made Ji Yulin vaguely feel like she had returned to the past, fallen into the pool in the laboratory.
In a daze, she kicked at the other and commanded in a hoarse voice, “Hurry up.”
[As you command.]
The reply came at the same time. The tentacle hooked to the wall crushed the stone, and the seawater was churned up.
The remaining clothes were pulled. They could have been placed on top of the clothes, but they were stuffed into the pocket of the white coat by a tentacle, and even neatly folded, so that not a bit of fabric was exposed.
It was just that she didn’t know what kind of expression Ji Yulin would have when she put on the white coat and walked out of the tower, and accidentally touched it.
The white waves still crashed against the wall, creating fine foam. For some reason, although this place was already sealed, there was no sign of it stopping. Instead, it became more and more urgent.
The mist was also the same, almost completely covering the octopus, let alone Ji Yulin in her arms.
The suckers sucked, and a sound escaped from between her lips. The corners of her eyes were stained with a bewitching blush, and her breathing grew heavier.
The red sun was pulled down, and the night finally came. Darkness enveloped the city, but the city was unwilling and lit up its lights.
The previously most unpopular tall buildings were now crowded with people, all looking this way, their expressions either anxious, curious, or worried. The only thing they had in common was that their gazes never moved.
The vehicles surrounding the South Tower did not leave, only turning on their red and blue warning lights. People patrolled continuously, driving away anyone who tried to get in.
The immense pressure and confusion were about to crush Su Ye. She stared blankly at the cigarette between her fingers. The tiny spark flickered, on the verge of being extinguished with the smoke several times, but it stubbornly burned on.
It was like her current state.
Before the cigarette could burn out, a chorus of curses was heard from outside.
A guard in a combat uniform and a solemn expression pushed a handcuffed person in.
Before the person had reached Su Ye, they had already started cursing, “You must have gone mad! You crazy widow who’s lost her wife and child! They’re gone, what are you tying us up for?”
“Su Ye, do you still remember who you are! All the council families have been surrounded by your armed forces, and the council members have been tied up. What are you trying to do?”
“Are you trying to rebel?”
“What would Qi Peilan think if she knew?”
“I knew you were no good. And Qi Peilan still had to promote you to vice district chief. I spit on you! What right does a lowly person from the bottom have to stand with us?”
These people, who had once stood at the top of the Thirteenth District, were now wretchedly pushed to the ground. Their luxurious clothes were stained with mud and dust, and covered in wrinkles. But even in this state, they were still cursing, their faces twisted with fury.
“I’m telling you, don’t think that just because Qi Peilan is dead…”
—Bang!
Before he could finish, Su Ye suddenly drew her gun and fired. With a loud bang, a bloody hole appeared in the man’s head, and he could no longer make a sound.
The noise instantly disappeared, and a deathly silence fell over the scene.
No one had expected her to do it. After all, before, in everyone’s eyes, she was just a canary who had luckily escaped from the slums of the Thirteenth District, then desperately climbed to the position of Qi Peilan’s secretary, and was finally taken in by her and trained to be her right-hand woman.
Those who called themselves the upper class looked down on her from the bottom of their hearts. They would smile and call her Vice District Chief to her face, but behind her back, they would laugh at her, saying that she was just a nanny Qi Peilan had found to take care of Qi Fu.
Of course, Su Ye knew, but she had never been angry about it. Compared to the decisive Qi Peilan, she was like a dummy who always wore a gentle mask, helping her to appease the various forces in the Thirteenth District.
But now, she was showing a ruthlessness that was even more severe than Qi Peilan’s.
In just one afternoon, she had taken control of all the council families, and the riots in the city had also been suppressed with an iron fist.
The people kneeling on the ground couldn’t help but feel timid. Their gazes quickly swept over her, then they quickly looked away.
They didn’t dare to think what she would become if Qi Peilan and the others really died.
The night grew darker. The round moon had just emerged from the clouds when it was blocked by the white mist around the South Tower, barely revealing a hint of yellow from the top of the tower.
The once-solemn tower was now dilapidated, with holes from explosions everywhere. The dried blood was congealed on the ground, and among the piles of corpses, the unconscious people were breathing rapidly.
And all the cages in the tower were broken, and there were no more ferocious mutated beasts… no, that’s not right. After all, at the very bottom, there was still a bad octopus who was bullying a human.
[Professor]
[My professor]
The seawater crashed against the wall, and a certain octopus let out a satisfied, sated sound.
As the last of the night faded from the sky, an orange glow struggled to appear.
Su Ye, who had been standing all night, brushed the cold dew from her shoulders. Her frozen face was expressionless, completely numb, her eyes filled with only a desolate silence.
The gazes of the people around her were all on her, waiting in silence.
Su Ye’s lips ground together. She opened her mouth several times but couldn’t make a sound. Finally, she managed to squeeze out a sentence, “Get, ready…”
Just then, someone shouted in ecstatic surprise, “The fog is clearing!”
“The fog is clearing!”
Everyone couldn’t help but look up, all looking in that direction.
They saw that the black tower, which had been completely obscured by the fog, was slowly revealing its outline. The expected crisis did not appear. Instead, it was abnormally calm.
Su Ye’s eyes were fixed on it. As the red sun rose, a light flickered in her eyes, and the corners of her eyes gradually became moist.
“Peilan…” her lips trembled, and she murmured in a low voice.
Her legs, which had been standing for a day, could only now be seen trembling. The bulging muscles were constantly twitching, showing her exhaustion.
And the few people who had been tied up on the ground suddenly regained their previous arrogance and kept shouting, “When the District Chief comes back, we’ll definitely have her demote you.”
“You just wait! Look what you’ve done?! The District Chief will definitely not let you off this time.”
“Su Ye, you’re practically rebelling!”
The words that had been unbearable before now sounded pleasant.
Su Ye’s lips curled up, and a smile finally appeared. She said, “I’ll take your good wishes.”
