109. An Easy to Understand Dummy (Part 3)
The entire event was settled in just an hour.
It was now dinnertime.
Reina wanted to use their private time to personally ask Calysia why she was angry.
—I’m not even angry.
Reina eagerly went to the dining room, but found it empty. Besides the meal Calysia had just prepared on the table, there was nothing else.
After dinner, Reina put aside her work on deciphering forbidden magic and searched for Calysia.
But she found that Calysia wasn’t in the Dragon King’s Palace at all.
At a loss, Reina finally found Fire Dragon, who was on the night shift. She explained enthusiastically, “Master Calysia said she went out to buy things and hasn’t returned yet~ Is there anything you need?”
Reina shook her head.
Was it my imagination?
She returned to her office and continued her research on forbidden magic.
It was already half past ten.
Reina was quite surprised.
Normally, Calysia should have come to invite her for a bath an hour ago.
But now, she couldn’t sense Calysia’s presence at all.
She put down her work and, after smelling Calysia’s scent in the bedchamber, she finally felt relieved.
She finished her bath and entered the bedchamber at 11:20.
—Originally, she didn’t want to talk during the bed-warming session.
Because Calysia would definitely take advantage of her.
But as soon as Reina got into bed, she felt something was wrong.
Calysia had her back to her, looking completely uninterested.
This cold reaction made Reina feel a huge psychological gap.
You’re the one who was slightly at fault first!
This seemed to indicate that Calysia was gradually coming to terms with her true feelings.
…But Reina knew that with a part of her soul missing, how could Calysia possibly have a normal view of love?
Had she inadvertently made things worse, making Calysia more normal?
If so, Reina felt that all her recent efforts had been in vain.
Reading forbidden magic was no easy task.
But it was fine this way.
However, Reina wasn’t sure where this sense of distance came from.
This made her unable to let it go. At night, she found herself too awake to sleep, yearning for some reaction from Calysia. She opened her eyes again, but still only saw Calysia’s fair back.
…Is she really angry?
No…
Are you lying to yourself, Reina?
How could Calysia become normal?
Reina felt that if she let this go, her wrong feelings would brew into an even more serious mistake by morning.
Therefore, she had to do something.
But asking directly would disturb Calysia’s sleep, might make her even more distant, and might even increase this sense of alienation.
Tentatively, Reina gently wrapped her tail around Calysia’s—the latter didn’t resist.
Good, very good…
Seeing that Calysia didn’t reject her tail, Reina breathed a sigh of relief, feeling that her inner turmoil was about to be resolved.
She even began to suspect that she had been overthinking.
Calysia was just too tired and fell asleep. Perhaps she had just forgotten to explain something.
When she woke up the next day, she would see Calysia’s cute face again, and they could interact as usual… Reina had never hated “variables” so much.
And so, with this expectation, Reina fell into a deep slumber.
…
Waking up in the morning, Reina felt as if she had had a satisfying night’s sleep, as usual.
She first received information from her Light Clone—the Saintess had personally promoted her and invited her to participate in the election for the next bishop.
Based on her recent performance, Reina felt that she had indeed caught the Saintess’s attention.
But what was this about being the next bishop?
Was the Saintess really so capable and decisive?
This was one of the most important positions in the Church of Light.
Below the Saintess were the three Cardinals, and below them were the Archbishops, and then the Bishops.
The election of a bishop had to be presided over by the Saintess herself, and the clergy would sign up in turn.
It was most likely a predetermined appointment.
And since she had received a direct invitation from the Saintess, even if she didn’t score any points in the assessment, as long as she went through the motions, she would probably get the position without any obstacles.
Once she became a bishop, she would have a certain level of authority, with control over troops, land, and a large amount of resources. This was a position that was difficult to climb to even in the later stages of the normal game. And with this status, both escaping the Dragon Realm and creating a new identity would be a piece of cake.
She had actually reached this level in less than a month?
No…
The Saintess was probably starting to suspect her.
Reina was well aware of her position and the Saintess’s personality.
She wasn’t afraid of being mistaken for the Goddess of Light; she had even been waiting for this day for a long time.
As long as she could lead humanity in the guise of the Goddess of Light, her leadership would be almost unparalleled.
This would be the most substantial step towards successfully clearing the game.
Speaking of which, as long as she had the Saintess’s favor, Reina didn’t have to worry too much about human affairs.
If she wanted to, she could easily seize leadership of humanity at any time.
Therefore, she could fully focus on “managing Calysia.”
But the problem was,
Calysia seemed angry.
Since this morning, she had been consciously or unconsciously avoiding Reina. Even when they met, they would just exchange greetings and then part ways. Their previous intimate interactions seemed to have never happened.
With the wedding just tomorrow, Reina was anxious.
She no longer cared about her plans. At this point, she just wanted to know why Calysia was reacting so abnormally.
They couldn’t possibly be having a cold war and still hold a wedding, right? How awkward would that be?
Could it be that she finally knew that she wasn’t the protagonist and had shifted her focus to someone else?
All sorts of chaotic thoughts danced in her mind, each one capable of weaving into a complete story to convince Reina. Even when she entered the [Place of Prayer], she couldn’t find the Little Cal who had always been waiting for her.
She was distracted all day.
It was as if every word of the forbidden magic was written with “Calysia” in mind.
At night, Reina took a bath early and curled up in bed, waiting for Calysia before she fell asleep.
Even if Calysia avoided her during the day, she couldn’t escape at night, right?
They slept in the same bed!
After waiting in bed for a full two and a half hours, Reina finally got her wish and saw Calysia.
The moment Calysia slipped under the covers, Reina grabbed her hand, looked at her, her face full of apology:
“Master Calysia~, can… can you explain this matter clearly?”
But Calysia just shook her head, looked at her face gently, and said with a smile:
“Let’s talk… tomorrow.”
Saying that, she turned around again, leaving Reina with her back.
Reina was first happy about Calysia’s gentleness, then sad about her words.
She was completely ignored.
What should she do?
Reina’s heart felt as if it had been plunged into ice water.
But just as Reina was feeling down, a tail climbed onto her fair thigh and hooked around it.
Reina was surprised by Calysia’s sudden interaction.
The hope in her heart was rekindled.
Calysia wasn’t disgusted with her!
She still had feelings for her.
—Based on her personality, Calysia must have just wanted to give her a surprise!
What kind of surprise could it be?
Could it be… more treasures?
New clothes…
Or gems…
“Haa—”
Thinking about it, Reina fell asleep again.
What she didn’t know was that Calysia, with her back to her, turned around after sensing her breathing become even, and looked at her as if admiring her most exquisite treasure.
She looked at the sleeping Reina’s cute face and secretly kissed her lips.
