39. Divine Sea Pearl
Hearing that it was a gift from Calysia, Reina blushed.
“Master Calysia, is this really… a treasure of the Goddess?”
“Yes, it’s also one of the most precious garments of the dragon race. If you wear it, everyone will know your status.”
Reina didn’t know how to respond.
Although this dress suited her taste, her long, fair legs and the thin fabric would evoke endless fantasies. It was both beautiful and alluring, with a touch of ethereal charm, even making Reina wonder if it was appropriate attire for a demon.
But when she realized that she was the one wearing the dress, the feeling of admiring it from afar vanished—because the person being admired wasn’t herself, but that dummy Calysia.
If she said it looked good, it would be like submitting to that dummy.
If she said it didn’t look good, Calysia might do something unfavorable to her.
Moreover, even the seemingly useless scraps of fabric on this dress were worth an astronomical price unimaginable to humans. This was a dress made from the treasures of the Goddess of Light!
What bothered Reina was that although her heart was rejecting the dress, a voice in her head was incredibly happy about receiving a gift from the Dragon King.
This feeling made Reina flustered.
“Thank you for your kindness, Master Calysia. I will treasure this gift,” Reina said after kneeling on one knee, composing herself, and thinking for a moment.
“Anyway, I don’t have anything else to wear…”
“So you like it?”
“I didn’t say I liked it.”
“So you don’t like it?”
Reina originally wanted to immediately admit that she didn’t want to wear this dress, dealing a blow to Calysia, but seeing the obvious disappointment on Calysia’s face, she swallowed her words.
Reina lowered her head and glanced at Calysia’s expression from the corner of her eye, only to find that Calysia was also observing her. With just a brief glance, their lips were only a few centimeters apart.
“It’s not that it’s ugly, it’s just… it reveals a bit too much.”
Although this dress wasn’t overly revealing compared to what some daring women wore to balls, putting aside her thighs and collarbone… if the Dragon Mark were also exposed, something unpleasant might happen.
She didn’t believe the claim about status. Considering that the Dragon Mark was Calysia’s possession, what would others think of her, Reina, wearing the Dragon King’s clothes and exposing the Dragon Mark?
This wasn’t a display of status at all, but an acknowledgment of her vassal identity!
“So, Reina likes this dress?”
The sadness on Calysia’s face suddenly vanished, like a mask changing. Reina didn’t know how such complex emotions could be expressed on that somewhat cold face. She only knew that Calysia wouldn’t let her go without a clear answer.
She said a little impatiently:
“I already said, it’s not that I hate it!”
“Hee hee.”
Reina glared at Calysia.
“I’m definitely not wearing this outside!”
“Wouldn’t it be a bit monotonous if you only wore the maid uniform?”
“I actually like the maid uniform.”
Reina replied.
If it were before, making her, a sunny young man, wear a maid uniform and stockings would have been met with absolute refusal. But compared to this revealing dress, she would definitely choose the maid uniform—at least, although the maid uniform wasn’t exactly convenient, the thick fabric provided a sense of security.
“Tomorrow is the banquet. You really won’t wear it?”
Calysia’s tone was slightly disappointed, like a little girl who didn’t get her lollipop, but her voice was more mature and cold.
Reina’s veins bulged.
Are you kidding me? That banquet is being held in my honor! How did it become an excuse for acting spoiled and making threats?
She wanted to establish her authority, to create the image of a cold yet caring superior among the demons. If she wore this dress, what would Fire and Ann think of her?
They would think that she was the Dragon King’s wife, her captive and puppet, a corrupted little darling. Even if she were to be collared one day, they wouldn’t be surprised.
The thought of the Dragon Knights staring at her intently made Reina break out in a cold sweat.
So, Reina shook her head:
“I won’t wear it. I’ll put on the maid uniform after I finish washing the clothes. And, I can wear this for you, isn’t that enough?”
Nothing doing.
Not even for the sake of appearances.
If she complied with everything, she would regret it later.
Calysia was persistent: “Wife, why do you think this dress is revealing? Why are you worried about your body being exposed?”
Reina suddenly remembered the dragons’ dressing habits.
Because of their scales, this race did prefer more revealing clothing styles. Coupled with the fact that dragons were generally quite attractive, and their inherent pride and confidence, wearing overly conservative clothes might indeed seem a bit strange.
But dragons were different from humans!
What did dragons’ habits have to do with her? She was a real human!
Of course, she couldn’t tell Calysia that she was human.
Reina’s eyes flickered. She originally wanted to say she was cold, but then she remembered being pulled into 230-degree “water” by Calysia for a bath.
“I’m different from other dragons.”
“That’s true.”
Calysia smiled:
“Because you’re the most beautiful, the cutest dragon. You’re unique, just like this dress.”
Reina blushed again.
Hearing Calysia’s praise, her heart started racing for some reason, her face burning hot, and even her actions seemed to freeze, unable to make her next move.
Suddenly, she remembered the admiring gazes of Fire, Ann, and Azure, their expressions of self-deprecation as they praised her beauty.
She suddenly recalled the celebrities under the spotlight in her previous world, and the envious and admiring gazes of the audience below.
Soon, her mind went blank, overwhelmed by the influx of information, leaving her breathless.
“Caly…”
She originally wanted to say something, to curse Calysia for her despicable methods, but the words caught in her throat.
The blush on her face was clearly visible to Calysia in the reflection of the glass.
—It’s just Calysia’s trap, just her trap…
Repeating these words in her mind, Reina’s restless heart finally calmed down, and she swore that she would never again be embarrassed by being praised for her beauty.
“Calysia, let’s go change clothes.”
Reina said coldly.
She turned around and forcefully pulled Calysia’s arm towards the dressing room.
“Eh?”
Calysia was surprised by Reina’s actions. She had thought Reina was angry, so she carefully followed.
They walked all the way to the dressing room, and Calysia realized that Reina didn’t seem very angry.
She stood in front of the wardrobe and, seeing that Reina’s emotions had stabilized, said with a smile:
“So, is Reina willing to wear the [Divine Sea Pearl]?”
“Yes.”
“Will you wear it to the banquet?”
“…”
“Yes.”
