82. The Beast King
Logically, they both deserved imprisonment or banishment.
They didn’t even realize what evidence had been used against them.
Shining Scale was indeed skilled in management, and White Scale excelled in commanding troops and training.
But in terms of interpersonal relationships, they still needed practice.
However, since they had chosen to trust her, from a certain perspective, they had made the right decision.
Could it be that they were actually quite smart?
Reina had originally been waiting for Liya’s serious expressions of gratitude and loyalty, but she hadn’t expected her to burst into tears.
“Thank you, Sister Reina!”
“Sob, sob, sob…”
“Thank you, I knew you wouldn’t do that.”
Liya had originally thought she was done for.
When she saw that document, she had basically accepted her death.
Liya recalled Reina’s cold indifference when killing traitors and imagined her own fate.
If Reina really wanted to kill her, it would probably be easier than throwing a stone.
So, for a moment, she thought of her sister, White Scale.
She felt that White Scale didn’t deserve such a fate.
So, she mustered her last bit of courage and begged for mercy.
But unexpectedly, Reina didn’t seem to care at all and even comforted her with some tsundere words! Although they were all true, Liya knew how kind Reina was to her friends.
So, feeling Reina’s gentleness, she burst into tears, suddenly remembering her mother.
“Why are you just like White Scale?”
Reina was speechless.
She never thought she would meet all these strange characters from the game.
Liya quickly wiped away her tears and asked, her voice choked with sobs:
“Sister Reina, have you met with White Scale?”
“I have,” Reina rubbed her forehead. “She was afraid I would make dragon soup out of you two and begged me for a long time.”
“Hahaha…”
Speaking of White Scale, Liya laughed.
She stopped crying and started to discuss excitedly.
“That child White Scale, although she’s older than me, when we became sisters long ago, I was the older sister. I said I would definitely make her happy.”
“She didn’t believe me back then.”
“Ah, she even made a bet with me…”
Although Reina wasn’t interested, she still listened patiently.
After this matter was resolved, she still had to consider how to appease Green Dragon, after all, she represented the interests of the Twelve Great Dragons.
So, she quickly bid farewell to Liya.
Before leaving, the dragon girl waved her hand and shouted, as expected:
“Sister Reina, I’ll come find you this afternoon!”
…
On a full moon night, a cool summer breeze blew through the trees, caressing the lush green grasslands.
But here, twisted and gnarled tree trunks rose from the ground, forming various tents under the starry sky. The tents were densely packed and towering, like countless mounds rising from the earth.
The blazing firelight and the noisy, boisterous sounds spread across the grasslands, disturbing the peace.
In the largest of these strange tree tents, a structure like a small palace, or perhaps a castle, stood majestically in the center, like a titan overlooking its domain.
Carved on the eerie wooden branches were ferocious images that inspired awe, and hanging from the withered branches were countless gloomy white bones. Any scholar with even a rudimentary understanding of biology and anatomy would be horrified by this sight.
—Those were the skulls of blood race members.
“Spit—”
“Damn blood race, finally paying the price for their arrogance!”
“Keep the music going!”
“Thump, thump, thump—”
Three-meter-tall orcs shouted and cheered amidst the revelry, celebrating their latest victory.
The noisy environment didn’t bother the being sitting on the vine throne within the “Strange Tree Castle.” In the darkness, no one could see the ruler’s face.
Guarding the “Strange Tree Castle” on either side were large, eight-meter-tall orc guards. They stood like towering stone statues, their massive feet capable of crushing pitiful humans like mice.
Just then, a mysterious figure in black ignored the orc guards and entered the castle, kneeling on one knee. Beneath the black cloak, a pair of bronze vertical eyes were revealed:
“Your Majesty, the Beast King, in four days, we will seize Eisentapha. I will dispatch the [Silent Golden Statue], [Grieving Feather Statue], and [Joyful Sinking Statue] and take Sophia’s head.”
“Why deploy so many troops?”
The man known as the Beast King asked in a magnetic, mature voice.
The man in black nodded slightly, his tone tinged with sorrow:
“Your Majesty, Crimson Scale is dead.”
“Hahahahaha!”
The being sitting on the throne finally couldn’t contain his laughter. He stood up, walked over to the man in black, and revealed his true appearance.
Compared to other orcs, his humanoid form was only two meters tall. He wore light, white linen trousers, a few simple black pouches tied around his waist as decoration, his upper body revealing powerful muscles… Compared to other orcs, he was incredibly slender.
But he had skin similar to a human’s, and a grayish-brown marking extended from his waist upwards, splitting into a “Y” shape on his chest, crossing his neck and reaching his lower eyelids.
On his wrists, which were slightly thinner than those of other orcs, were six golden rings, resembling some kind of special artifact.
He smiled faintly, revealing a row of sharp teeth, his dark red hair standing up like a small volcano, giving him a somewhat refreshing appearance.
“…”
The man in black remained silent.
“Hahahahaha!”
The Beast King laughed heartily again, like a drunken man recounting an embarrassing past, roaring with laughter.
“Crimson Scale, a traitor to the dragon race, such an ending is only natural!”
“He chose the correct path.”
“The one who killed him was the Demon Moon [Azure Scale], the newly appointed Demon Moon, but we couldn’t obtain any further information. Our informants were all eliminated overnight, it’s extremely strange.”
The man in black’s voice was like a rusty grindstone:
“If necessary, I will personally take Sophia’s head, Your Majesty. What are your thoughts?”
The Beast King simply waved his hand, instantly understanding the man in black’s meaning: “Of course, I have no objections. Take the treasures and use them.”
Hearing the Beast King’s words, the man in black nodded again, about to thank him for his generosity and leave, but unexpectedly, the Beast King walked over to him, holding a jug of wine.
“Tell you what!”
“Phantom Dragon, you can use the Goddess’s treasures, but I have one condition this time!”
The man in black looked up slightly: “Your Majesty, please speak.”
The Beast King lifted the jug, drank it all in one gulp, then threw the empty jug dozens of meters away, landing right in the center of a mountain of empty jugs.
Then, he spread his arms and clasped his fists.
“Boom—!”
A deafening thunderclap echoed through the sky, turning the surrounding area as bright as day.
“I’m going too!”
“Don’t you think that Azure Scale is quite interesting?”
